Hey Dakka, I had the tyranid 'dex in my possession for a week so I thought i'd make a nice Warrior list as I hate gaunts I wanted to try and fit in as many warriors as possible while keeping it fairly good competitve wise for supporting units. How do you guys think this will do in games? If it all goes well I might start them as my next army as The Tyranids have some of the best kits IMO (Trygon and Warriors)

Thanks for Looking!

HQ:

Prime 100
Lash Whip & Bonesword, Deathspitter

Troops:

5 Warriors 180
Barbed Strangler, 4 Deathspitters

5 Warriors 180
Barbed Strangler, 4 Deathspitters

5 Warriors 180
Barbed Strangler, 4 Deathspitters

Barbed Strangler, 4 Deathspitters

Elites:

3 Hive Guard 150

3 Hive Guard 150

3 Hive Guard 150

Heavy Support:

Trygon Prime 240

Trygon Prime 240

1750/1750

I'd like to try and fit another Tyranid Prime in there as I like my army to be symmetrical!

I think it would be a nice benefit to my warriors too as two units could push up for objectives while the two without the primes stay back.

What do you guys think and how could i free up100 points for another prime?

Just take 6 Hive Guard to get a second prime (or 7 I suppose).

I'm not sure you need two Trygon Primes either, but I suppose since your list is quite shooty you might want them just for the extra shots.
I would be tempted to make one of the warrior squad Lash whip and bonesword warriors (or duel Boneswords). Also think AG is a great upgrade for the Primes (both Primes actually). Maybe do actually drop 1 Hive Guard from each squad, to add your Prime, and AG on all 4 Primes.

If you want another Prime I'd just drop the Prime upgrade on one of your trygons and a hive guard would only give you 90pts though, or just cut a guard from 2 of the squads and lose some symmetry

Hi, thanks for the advice, I could drop the Trygon's down to standard but i would like a big bubble of synapse as i have a lot of it on the table, what do you think?

Also on the boneswords I thought that you couldnt take 1 guy with a bonesword, I thought the whole unit had to be equipped the same, If one can have a lash whip and a bonesword then i will definatley take the list.

I'm guessing 3 units of 2 for 6 Hive Guard, I guess 4 S8 shots still has a lot of killing power!

Thanks for the help

Also, any ideas on what to do with the 10 points?

I think you should drop the Trygon's down to standard and maybe you could try and fit some more units in there such as Raveners, If you could try to fit them with spinefists they look awesome and can do quite a bit of damage

+1 on dropping the Trygon prime upgrade. It's not like your getting anything special and the only thing that may need synapse is the Hive guard so why so much SitW guy?

I think it's just because he wants more shots as his list is very shooty.

six extra shots won't do much and a trygons place is in combat. you are unlikely to fire more than once as after that you will be running at the enemies unit with fleet and charging. and even if you don't have to run, you are likely only shooting down enemies you were going to flatten in combat anyway. Also, if the trygons are supporting the warriors then they don't need their own synapse, and honestly, if you deepstrike them with enough foresight, even if they succumb to instinctive behavior then they will be killing the stuff you want them to anyway!

I wanted to give them a more shooting chance against faster armies so they wont be useless and there's me relying just on hive guard, 12 shots would do well against a DE venom etc and I will be starting these guys on the board as DS them is just a waste.

Run the HG as 3x Units of 2. spreads the shots out more...

As for the Trygon Prime debate that seems to be roaring, if you drop it from both and with the the additional ten points you have left you'll have 90pts to kick about with. IMO you should have two units of warriors fitted out with BS & LW. ok that makes two units 225pts each, but in combat they will be devastating... should you want to you can keep the Devourer's too, so they have range and death dealing capabilities, then run both primes in each of these units. Off the top of my head thats 1730pts exactly... so you have 20pts to kick about with.

Ok thanks for the advice, I will give the Prime squads the boneswords, as they will probably be the best going forward with WS6, btw what do you guys think about venom cannons, should i take them over barbed stranglers?

As to barbed stranglers v venom cannons I'm not normally that fussed. With a BS prime in there and devourers all round you want to get them to 18" and closer ASAP even if that means running T1 and T2. Neither is really a vehicle killer, more for troops, HQs etc. If I had to choose I'd go BS.

Personally I don't rate BS or VC's as you have plenty of devourers and death spitters in the list, and for your AT you have the Trygons and the HG.

Also, just out of curiosity, are you giving the prime squads twin BS's or BS & LW's? As personally I'd gor for the latter as LW's are a must have imo

As for the shooty weapons yeah i would like to make most use of the Prime's BS to benefit the squad but i did want 1 or 2 pie plates in my list, out of the two which do you think is better?

On the CC Weapons yeah i will defo take LW's, Making base contact enemies I1 is too hard to pass on

Well as you have AT covered, I'd go with Barbed stranglers against any Guard/Orks/Kroot you may encounter, that should whittle numbers down a bit. plus a large blast never hurt in getting SM's down in number either.
