Some new rumour from Warseer, backed up by Harry:
phantomtie wrote:So I just wanted to point out that with the arrival of the new plastic wolf models forgeworld will be dropping the new hobgoblins that go with them. They look awesome or at least the artwork for them is awesome they have flat but wide noses so pretty much the oposit of standered goblins.

Also forgeworld is bringing back the dogs of war as a stand alone army my source called it "the lands of strife" it's going to try and explain what's going on in all the parts of the old world no one gets to play as and why.

Also "the lands of strife" is not actually the title it has no title yet but this is the gist of it is that Russia Italy Spain and the aribic world don't really play a part in the story of the old world because they can barely hold themselves together.

Spain in the warhammer world is locked in a 1000 + year old 3 way revolution that has left it little more them a wasteland. Italy is divided up into border princes who never have power long enough to do anything with it. Russia just keeps getting crushed by chaos. And the Arab world is making its last stand against the undead. As such they all use mercenarie army's to keep things going and they act as mercenaries to raise money.

That's what I was told.

Harry wrote:Well I am not sure what folks want me to say ....
How about I let this guy continue to speak for himself ... hes doing just fine.
Back at the start of september he started a thread called "New wolf model coming"

I made a note of what he said ... as it sounded about right and matched stuff I had heard.
Here is what he said.

phantomtie wrote:New Wolf model coming.

Not sure if this is news or if it's already come up before but one of the Forgeworld guys let it slip to me that they won't be doing wolves with the new hobgoblins because they will be using new plastic ones from GW.

One kit will build 5 wolves I think thats bad for O&G because I think they get 8 in a box now but the wolves sound cool and they are apparently big enough for a space marine.

I don't play 40k so I don't care but I think that makes them bigger then the current wolf. The guy told me that the plastic sprue makes 5 wolves and that you will GW and Forgeworld will use them for everything that needs a wolf.

The wolves are clean so anyone can use them as packs so any model that goes on them will need to have the saddle on them as the wolf model is just a wolf.

Not sure how this works with the goblin chariot as don't you need 3 wolves to make a chariot I really didn't think to ask about that but then again not sure he would know as he doesn't work for GW.

phantomtie wrote:Hi guys if you remember I told you months ago that the none thunder wolf models are coming out and when you see them you will see that they are made to have saddles on them you can't see it from the pictures but when you have them in your hands you'll see it clearly.

Forge world did not make wolf models because GW told them not to because they did not want people to use them for thunder wolves as that would bite into GW sales. That's why they had to use the plastic wolves GW makes and why they held the hobgoblins until the plastic wolves came out.

To answer the question of my source I've gone over this more then once over the years I really only know things about GW video games and forgeworld and things that effect them. I will say this that the idea for thunder wolves came from the guy at THQ who did the story for Blood ravins he told a bunch of GW guys about a native legend of a spices of giant wolves called Wahala it translates into head taker. The hobgoblins will be getting Wahala as heavy calvary killing blow and a bunch of attacks.

All will be out before the end of the year including new wolf riders for OG's and you should see the art and some models at open day.

Total respect to you for having responded in this way.

You clearly have some accurate information coming from somewhere.
Hopefully you will continue to bring it here.

I have seen the concept art for the hobgoblins ... they look great.

I can also confirm there is a smoother bit in the middle of the back of the new wolves ...
.... right where a saddle would go.

The contents of "Lands of Strife" feels a bit off unless they dramatically alter the way that Kislev(Russia) and Tilea(Italy) are portrayed.

Araby and Estalia though, I could certainly see.

The Hobgoblins thing lines up nicely with what FW has been hinting at for awhile on their Facebook page.

What do you mean by dramatically? Kislev is way close to the chaos wastes, and Tilea have their famed mercenaries.

Kislev has always been close to the Chaos Wastes, but they haven't really been portrayed as being a nation so deep in trouble to be unable to "commit to the Warhammer World at large".

They've always just traditionally been out of it because of their military's decentralized nature.

The Border Princedoms have likewise not been that far gone that they can't commit to the Warhammer World at large. They've been left out mostly because of the fact that their armies would (by the fluff) run extremely close to the Empire's, to the point where the only difference is replacing Handgunners with Crossbowmen and adding rules for Pikemen.

I'm all for a book about these things, but it might be a tad too early to get hopes up considering Monstrous Arcana is the next Warhammer Forge book to be released.

Come to think of it: the wolf thing makes sense considering that they made the Cyberwolf(the Fenrisian Wolf "pack leader" upgrade) its own model.

Can't wait for the hobgoblins!

Aside from Beastmen, they are my favorite WHFB race. So treacherous and conniving that their own kin exiled them. I mean how low do you have to go to be so particularly hated by Orcs and Goblins? And they have the whole mongolian theme going on, which I'm a big fan of.

Also, I heard they won't be making Hobgobbo infantry, as it was cost ineffective, or something like that. Is it just wolf riders coming, or did I hear wrong about the footsloggers?

That's the jist of it, yes.
Hobgoblin infantry (at least in the form of slave units) were deemed too cost ineffective (namely: people would need to buy obscene amounts of them, and FW doesn't like people being able to say they bankrupted them ). The same thing happened with Chaos Dwarf "generic line infantry", and is why the Infernal Guard were done as they were.

Hobgoblin infantry, or at least an "elite, special Hobgoblin unit" might not be unforeseeable though.

Hmm, little bit sceptical with the whole dogs of war......surely a source who told someone would use the names Kislev, Tilea, Araby and Estalia....not Russia, Italy, Spain and the Arabic world. Wasn't there suppost ot be an Allied book coming that was suppost to having all this but was called shenanigans because the source admitted to be full of ???

As to hobgoblins...whats the point of Tamurkhan Chaos Dwarf list?? Oh hang on....some people have to older models, answered my own question

Or hobgoblin head swaps for standard goblins.

Hobgoblins are human sized.... If you were going to make a conversion kit bretonian men at arms or some Skavan models would be the better choice, as that would make them more appropriately sized. Problem is then your leaving out their classic "hump back".

In all honesty you might as well at that point be proxying Gnoblars or Goblins for your Hobgoblins.
