Lets say the tyranids really are running away from something, what do you think that race would look like? what type of being would it be? biological? mechanical? bio techno? warp creatures? daemon? other humans? others?

Whatever could be powerful enough to make the swarm flee would also be capable of preventing their escape. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, it would be unlike anything in Big-E's Milky Way, otherwise the Nids would be giving a very wide berth to one of the factions.

They are avoiding necron tomb worlds. I can't remember if it was the old or new codex that says that though.

No that would not be it.
Necrons inhabit only the milky way galaxy, to which the tyranids are not native. If the nids were fleeing from something, it would also have to be from outside the milky way.
As for nids avoiding tomb worlds...I don't think that exists anymore, as in the new dex they ate a tomb world (only because of its minerals and possible fauna/flora, obviously)

Clearly, the 'Nids are fleeing from a galaxy comprised of the internet. They're what we refer to as "Anon" a horde of ravenous, cruel creatures who only exist to make life terrible, and consume others. They come in many different for(u)ms and are know for their ferocity. They're being chased out by the physical entity of "Admin" who is trying to get rid of Anon.

Are we just speculating? I thought it was because they had already eaten all the planets in their galaxy, and are moving on to the new one. Similar to eating planets. Eat one, move to the next. Just on a larger scale.

Maybe it wasn't them that ate all the planets.

Terrible. It's so terrible, if you were to bring it into the 40k universe, all the other races would have to go on grimdark rationing, just to make sure there was enough gothic themed cynical angst to go around.
On a serious note, though, whatever it is has to be so awful that to name it or describe it would make it less threatening. Some Lovecraftian, dawn-of-time, outside the bounds of reality as you understand it type business.

Of course we're speculating. Even in-universe, the IoM speculates that the Tyranids may be fleeing from some extra-galactic threat, but has no proof or evidence to support this theory.

With all the super powerful entities in the 40k universe, I can imagine that something existed that was possible of making the tyranids flee.
If I had to think of something off the top of my head, I guess maybe some sort of entity that could possibly shift planes of existence, and had been dormant for a long time. Maybe the tyranids aren't necessarily fleeing, but just moving to a different area because theres a bigger fish in the pond?
There's lots of other sci-fi sources that have situations like this, why not 40k?

I think they were running away from one of the sleeping C'tan. The one that the emperor imprisoned and it is getting angrier and angrier and Tyranids know that soon he will break free. Well thats what I think anyways.

OMG, THE HIVE MIND IS ARNOLD!!!!!!
But in are seriousness, Mechanical would make sense. No biomass to be obtained from it.
Or maybe They are avoiding their creators. Think about it. A species like tyranids aren't natural. They where created to be an army that can adapt its own soldiers on the fly. And the hivemind is their controller made by them. Maybe their creators empire is so vast they have to leave.

The C'tan that's imprisoned on Mars, yes? Surely invading the Milky Way galaxy from Andromeda would be the absolute reverse of running away from it?

I agree with a poster above. Anything that is powerful enough to make them run could catch them.
However a few things could do it.
1: Slow moving <A.I. Driven nano swarms
2: Some type of bio-plague they can not adjust to. It forces them to seek out new hunting grounds.
3: A larger Tyanid swarm. The ones being seen could be running from larger, more powerful hives. Or another type of tyanid hive all togather.>

If it was anything id imagine it to be one of.3 things
1. null entities something that physically rips the hive mind apart and kills anything connected to it.
2. something like the enslavers something that takes control and generally can never be harms due to an ethereal nature
3. some bigger bug their natural predator
4 and a outside chance orks i mean they are everywhere maybe orks that have put away all differences because they still have brainboyz xD

So. Chaos,. then?
Orkses is possible - wasn't there an old fluff blurb about someone listening to signals from outside our galaxy and only coming across orky signals?
Maybe some of the Old Ones left the Galaxy and survive out there somewhere? They might be powerful enough to scare 'Nids away.

They're running from Vulkan and Leman Russ, obviously, who are giving chase slowly but surely in their fisher-price rubber duck ship. It fits the fluff perfectly.

Some really interesting ideas in here, specifcally a bigger or badder type of Hive Mind or even Orks, that one will defo get me ruminating some.
The only problem with the Orks angle I feel, is that Nids dont feel fear or terror and where there are Orks there is an almost unlimited biomass, which in both the short and long term, is a boon to the Nids. For the Hive Mind to make a tactical retreat (not a fear based one) would mean the numbers of Orks would have to be truyle staggering, utterly incomprehensible infact.
I'd side though with the general idea of its something that they cannot overcome through their biological adaptation, perhaps Warp based entities or a type of life form that is completely immune to their weapons due to its molecular or physical structure.
I suppose another point is that to make the intergalactic journey takes a really huge "commitment" so if they are running it must be from somethingthat is unbelievable in strenght or numbers!
However I'll be honest and say I dont believe they are actually running from anything, its just fun speculation for me.

Starvation.
Think about it, the tyranids are voracious little blighters, who devours entire worlds on a regular basis.
Its likely that they ate everything in their own galaxy and are searching for a new feeding ground.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

GW's fluff writing?
|
"If you really want to know what it was like, to fight in the air in the great War, then go up to someone you have never met and who has never done you the slightest harm and pour a two-gallon tin of petrol over them. Then apply a match, and when they are nicely ablaze, push them from a fifteenth-floor window after first perhaps shooting them a few times in the back with a revolver. And be aware as you are doing these things that ten seconds later someone else will quite probably do them to you. This will exactly reproduce... the substance of First World War aerial combat and will cost your country nothing. It will also avoid the necessity of ten million other people to die in order for you to enjoy it."

I do remember reading somewhere that the 'Nids might be running away from something. But I also read that they've devoured numerous galaxies already. If I had to go with the 'running away' theory, then why not chaos? Who's to say that the people of another galaxy developed far quicker than our sentient races did, were more psychic and grew some pretty nasty chaos gods f their own? The Warp in that part of space could be so messed up that the Hive Mind struggles to keep control of the swarms up those ways.
But hey, that's just a theory I have.
