In my (our) blog, we have been updating the progress of making our 2nd game table and when we are done, we are going to hold a battle over the internet.
Here's how we would like it to work....
1. The community (everyone who would like to participate) will be able to choose their fleet on a poll here. by you.
2. When the fleets are chosen, we will allow some time for the community to make a list of 1500pts (restricted by what models we have, of course) and discuss deployment. Any of the fleets we have on the poll, we have at least 2000pts of.
3. We will set up the game based on the community's guidance.
4. We will start the game.
Each turn will be a week long and we will take orders from the community on this thread until Sunday where we will play out the turn (the community's fleet and the enemy fleet) and report it back to you.
If you are interested in playing, please voice your interest here in this thread and vote in the poll to let us know what fleet you want to control! Also, any advice on how to run this would be considered and appreciated.

Im interested in this...and I potentially have another friend who might be as well.
He has a Space Marine Fleet and I have Imperials.
Have the polls been created? And how would this all work? Would it be a massive fleet engagement or individual battles?

One individual battle and the "community" plays one of the fleets. What I will probably do is have my brother in law (who doesn't browse the forums) play the other fleet. The poll is here...

The poll results are pretty clear the the preferred fleet for this game will be Imperial Navy. Now on to step 2, list making. Feel free to chime in with a 1500pt list or ideas for a list right here in this thread. If you are on the Specialist Games forums, I would prefer the majority of the discussion be HERE. I will be posting a picture of the table set up with scenery afterward and we can then deploy the fleets after you find out the enemy fleet.
Here are the models I have available...
Battleship (magnetized Emperor)
1 Magnetized Grand Cruiser
2 Magnetized Battlecruisers
4 Magnetized Cruisers
2 Lance Dauntless
5 Swords
7 Cobras
List making will last a week or so. Thanks!

Ok, Spellbound, there's a couple problems with the pricing on this list (using the BFG-R rule set). I think I've linked it correctly... .
BFG-R
Ld 9 admiral with extra reroll 125 // all good
Retribution 365 // actually the Ret is 345
Mars, Imperious upgrade 285 // Price dropped to 260 in BFG-R (plus 15 for the column shift upgrade)
Lunar 180 // all good
Dominator 190 // all good
Lunar 180 // all good
5 swords 175 // all good
1500 // 1470 actual
This is the other proposed list on the Specialist Games Forum.
Personally I think a mixed fleet would probably be best, something with a couple ranged carriers then some solid line cruisers and the two Dauntless for speed/maneuverability. Maybe Emp + Vengeance for long range support. Then the two Dauntless of course. For the battle line maybe a pair of Lunars, good at all comers. Then a Mars, for the nova and additional AC/ LR punch, and an admiral would round it out.
Emperor (sharks) 370
Mars 270
Vengeance 230
Lunar 180
Lunar 180
Dauntless 110
Dauntless 110
Admiral 50
Since both versions currently have a Mars and 2 Lunars this boils down to:
Emp w/fleet admiral vs Ret w/admiral and rr
Vengance vs Dominator
2 dauntless vs 5 swords
Thoughts or inputs anyone?

So the retribution is 20 points cheaper and the mars 10?
Then drop the column shift upgrade. That should leave me with 45 points to spare. Add a 6th sword (35) and then make two of the swords into firestorms. That makes it an even 1500 with a total squadron size of 2 firestorms and 4 swords. Power 20 weapon battery and 2 lances to finish off!

The Retribution has potential in a steamroller based fleet and would be backed well by the Lunar pair, but I'm not really seeing where the Dominator fits into the picture. With its nova it has the potential to cause some good havoc but its lacking another ship to pair with, something the IN needs dearly. The Sword/ Firestorm pairing could also work, but we run into a problem of a lack of suitable models, +++afterimagedan+++'s group has no Firestorms. Lastly the lists only carrier is the Mars which leaves the group seriously lacking in fighter cover for a game of this size, especially considering that there's also a deficit of torpedoes.
The Emperor takes the opposite approach, standing back and providing long range fire power backed by the Mars and the Vengance. The Lunars here play more like the supporting roll, running interference for the bigger ships, and are supported by the Dauntless.
Maybe as something of a mesh we could run a Retribution, 2 Lunars, 2 Dauntless, an Exorcist, and a Mars.
This would give a very solid line with the Retribution supported by the 2 Lunars, a respectable amount of attack craft from the Exorcist and the Mars (which can squadron thereby reducing some of the pressure on re-loading and also allowing them to field a very respectable 14wb @ 45 and a pair of lances) and the Dauntless take the place of any escort vessels while helping to fill out the line.
Fleet Admiral:50
Retribution:345
Exorcist:265
Mars:260
Lunar:180
Lunar:180
Dauntless:110
Dauntless:110
What are your thoughts on these fleets?

Imperial Navy:
The Mars and Exorcist reload their ordinance.
The Lunars lock on.
The Dauntlesses fail their lock on roll and use a re-roll. They fail the second time as well.
All ships advance.
-The Retribution fires into Carnage 2 causing 4 hits: 2 shields and 1 damage is braced. 1 damage to the hull.
-The locked on Lunars fire on the braced Carnage 2 and cause a massive 6 damage, turning it into a blazing hulk! Acheron 2 has 1 shield knocked down.
-The port broadside guns of the Lunars fire upon Devastation 2. The shooting takes down 2 shields and does 2 damage to the hull.
-The Dauntlesses cause 3 total damage to Acheron 2 taking the second shield down and causing 1 hull damage.
-The Mars and Exorcist shoot at Carnage 1 knocking 2 shields down.
-The Lunars fire their torpedoes separately at the Desolator: 1 wave (from the crippled Lunar) is destroyed by the fighters, the other wave of 6 lose 2 to torpedoes and miss with the rest.
-The Mars and Exorcist launch 4 assault boats and 6 bombers towards Carnage 1 and Acheron 1.
Chaos:
The Devastations reload.
The Desolator locks on.
-Carnage 2 moves forward 12 centimeters and continues to blaze.
-Carnage 1 runs into the assault boat wave killing 0 of them with turrets. Starboard weapons damaged, nothing, nothing, and engine room damage.
-Carnage 1 and Acheron 1 shoot the mars. Take 2 shields down and 1 hull damage.
-The Desolator shoots Lunar 2 with its batteries. Takes 2 shields down, 2 hull damage, and 1 is braced.
-The Desolator shoots Lunar 2 with lances. Braces 3 of 4 damage.
-The Devastations shoot Lunar 2. 1 hull damage.
-Acheron 2 shoots Lunar 2 and causes 2 hull damage after 1 is braced. Drifting hulk!
-The Desolator fires its torpedoes at the Retribution and causes 2 hull damage and gets the engine room damaged critical (another 1 damage and cannot turn).
-The Devastations launch 2 fighters: 1 on CAP on Devastation 2 and 1 on CAP on the Desolator. 6 bombers attack the Retribution causing only 1 damage.
-All 6 Imperial bombers engage Carnage 1 causing 2 damage.
-Carnage 1 repairs its starboard weapons.
