I'm interested in what your most obscure proxy is! I'm not talking about using a BA librarian as a stand in for a Mephiston, Lord of Cheese model. I'm talking using your pet tortoise as a carnifex proxy (yeah I did that. My Russian Tortoise Vladimir is a pretty sound sleeper, and it was a casual game with my buddies in my own house.) Anyway, what are some of your weirdest proxies?

I don't use proxies in tourneys and I'm sure Vlad is appreciative of that, but we've all used em in casual games to try out new stuff before buying models. So spill it.

My worst proxy was an upturned cup with the word "DROP POD" painted on it, and a stormbolter glued on top. The days before the plastic kit were dark indeed.

I once played a Necron player who invited me to a 1750 game. He pulls out his army, and then pulls out his second Monolith. It's two dozen Yu-Gi-Oh! cards taped in the vague silhouette of a Monolith.

HAHA that's pretty funny. In a serious game, I wouldn't play against a pile of Yugioh cards either. Unfortunately, a lot of Tyranid players still have to resort to the plastic cup method

My favorites were back in the day when none of us had any armies. Some classics:

Using a big Twins cup (one of the commemorative cups they give away at Twins games) as a drop pod.
Using d6s as units (all the units). We have a running joke because the one Necron player (who now has an army) would constantly go to roll his dice, and wind up picking up the dice that were standing in for Necron warriors.
One memorable game was a 2v1, Necrons and Eldar (Yes...) against Armored Company, using old rules for them before 5e came out. The Necron and Eldar armies consisted of nothing but d6s, while the IG army was nothing but Magic: the Gathering card boxes. It was a bizarre sight to hold.

I've actually played several games against marines that did just that. It was kind of funny because a couple people did what you did (without writing the name of the unit on the side), and a couple of people just used the plastic cups. They had the decency to at least get cups that matched their army color).

The worst proxy I ever did was probably using a chimera as a hydra, but, to be fair, this was in a foot guard list that only had three vehicles, and all of them were hydras. Oh, and I also used grenade launchers to represent mortars once. At least I didn't actually have any grenade launchers in my list at the time.

The worst proxy I've had against me was a person who cut out a square of cardboard (likely from a cereal box) in a square of roughly the dimensions of a monolith and used that scrap of cardboard as a proxy for a monolith. Things got so bad at that store that one of the owners jokingly took a used 20oz. pepsi bottle and stuck some tyranid pieces on it making the dreaded "pepsifex"...



I don't... THINK... it ever got actually fielded, but I can't be 100% sure about that...

I've got some pretty bad ass razorbacks made out of block foam .

They work pretty well, I'm thinking of just painting them properly and keeping them instead of buying actual models.

A friend of mine once ran a whole BT army, using nothing but different coloured dice to represet the different units.

I think he even took it to a tourney once.

Ork Weirdboy as a Necron Warrior.

I was one Warrior short after realising I'd left it at home gluing after breaking it the previous week. I'd still got my Ork HQs in my bag though so used the Weirdboy for a couple of turns until a Warrior from that unit died so I could remove him.

As a Weirdboy he probably thought he was a Necron
