For example i have always wanted to play grey knights but they were too expensive now There the ultimate cheese and have been banwagogend and one of the reasons i was gonna plays them was because they were rare. Lets hear your storys of this.

Can you please make a bit more effort with regards to spelling and grammar please. Thanks

I used to run a GK only Daemonhunters list.

I loved the feel, the Puritan will suffer no daemon fluff, the models

The new codex dropped, and i was excited to see what they had done with my awesome Gk.

AAnnnnd they are on the shelf. They are more powerful now, and more likely to win games, but almost everything i liked about them is gone.

I used to run Necrons. I loved the monolithic and implacable mindless Terminators, with the lovecraftian Great Old One stargods. I liked my near-indestructable Monolith (and liked that it was the only vehicle). I liked that Necrons simply didn't make deals or friends. The nearest they got was to fight the same thing, and then they'd exterminate you too. I liked the hints that the Ad Mech were Ctan worshippers..

The new codex came. I was all excited to see what they had done to expand the unit choices (admittedly rather limited) and expand the Mars fluff...

Annnnd they hit the swap shop... :(

Contrariwise i tried and almost succeeded in not re-collecting my Dark Eldar (having sold the old army to my brother years before), until my wife bought me a Talos to model and paint up. I'm at about 4000 pts now...

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

Before I started painting Ultras, I painted a few SoB. I did one battle sister squad and bought a Cannoness and Celestian squad which I never painted. The codex, lack of figure variety and lack of good independant characters turned me off. When, or if, the new codex comes out it may spark my interest again. Provided new figures aren't Finecrap, of course.

I wanted to do Ultramarines. I loved their armor color, their symbols, the way they looked when in a giant army formation. Their fluff was meh but that didn't really matter to me. Ultramarines looked so cool! But then I read the new fluff. And then I read about how everyone felt about them. I may still do Ultras, damn what the internet thinks, but I hate the spiritual liege gak.

Ha, true enough. Haters gonna hate is the number one rule of any multifactional fiction fandom. Oddly enough, right after I posted that I came across a article about Ultra hate. Seemed like a I read all of it before, if you get me.

We've got a few Ultra players at the FLGS I play at most often. I haven't noticed any teasing to speak of. GK players, on the other hand, are ritually heckled, harassed, and shamed. Put Purifiers or Draigowing on the table and you may be subject to a war crimes tribunal. I think it's all very over the top personally, but if I were interested in playing GKs, that kind of stigma would likely make me think better of it.

There is something very clean and smart looking about a formation of UM. Something about the blue more than any other chapter color.

Tyranids. Everything about them "bugs" me. From the play style to the aesthetic design I just have no desire to play them.

If I want hordes I'll play orks. Plus, and this may just be me, but all of their weaponry looks exactly the same so it's hard to tell things apart on the tabletop. I mean a meltagun is a meltagun and a bolter is a bolter but everything on their side just looks ridiculous and phallic.

While I don't disagree with you on some issues, Grey Knights are actually a pretty cheap army to start. A normal Draigowing list will run about $400. My Blood Angels list would cost someone $600

Tau... the steady updates to the rest of the range means that there is really only one competitive build to them... and I got tired of playing it...

Oldcrons... same deal, sold my army off, kinda regret it now.

Wow, poor GK players... or not. Heh, here I was thinking Ultra players got the same treatment. And Nom, I dunno.. you might have very well been in that thread.

Tyranids... Tyranids, yeah they look weird. Yeah, the way they use guns is silly. Yeah, some of the bigger ones are... well hung. But, they do look menacing in a large swarm. I wouldn't collect them because I don't dig the whole "OM NOM NOM NOM MOVE ON" characterization of them. Just personal tastes, it has it's appeals.

I had picked up the old Daemonhunters book with plans to make a non-GK force. Fortunately the rumors about the new dex started swirling around before I bought any models.

I held off, and I'm glad I did. If I want to run non-GK inquisition now I would be locked into always taking Coteaz. Not to mention the fact that getting the closest equivalent to the old stormtrroopers would cost 3 points more for a model with a lower BS.

I'm just talkin' about Megaweapon.

This is true, but I think it is pretty safe to say that the GK codex offers a more competitive non-GK Inquisition army build than the old Daemonhunters codex did. Coteaz henchmen spam is pretty good.

necrons, before they had a poor selection of OK models and nice fluff and now they have crap models with crap fluff. the only thing that would ever motivate me to play them is that I could have an army painted in a day :/

Not sure if serious...

Ignoring the fluff concerns, the new necrons models are immensely better than the old ones. Or did you like only having four or five different monopose units?

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

On two occasions I have fielded a new army only once, and very nearly been put off playing them again. Both times I was feeling my way with the game and a new army, and got absolutely kerb-stomped by my opponent. Once was with my WFB VC against that Beastman list where a horde of chaos spawn come running at you (not sure if it was just a WD list, the shaman starts off surrounded by hounds which can be transformed and then sent on their way), second time was fielding my Khador in Warmachine against a Hordes list. Can't really remember who I was playing now, but I do remember I spent the entire game trying to kill one of his guys (while half my army was destroyed), only for him to re-incarnate himself

I guess it sounds kind of silly, but they were soul-crushing defeats and there is nothing worse after you have spent 6 months or so getting an army ready for the tabletop!

I've been put off armies several times.

Mostly because I don't like enough of the models enough to bother trying to collect it (orks, SoB, BA, DA, BT, SW, Necrons, tau, daemons, csm or tyranids).

DE left me in a quandary. I like the models a lot, but not more than any of the other 4 armies I have for 40k (and due to space limits, I have to get rid of one of them before I can get a new army), so they are also on my put-off list.

Shame, I really like them - but I don't like them more than my Craftworld eldar (1st army, 1987), SM (1988) guard (1993 or so) and GK (3rd ed codex - I didn't jump on the bandwagon with these, I just updated my codex - I was playing them through the lean years of 4th and 5th ed when no-one else was).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

They used to fight daemons also.

I don't think I have ever seen a game played with that matchup with the new codex. They seem to go to tournaments and fight other marines mostly these days...

Nope, but my gaming group is a little non-traditional.

We stopped buying the new editions of WH/40K after 6th[Fantasy] and 2nd[40k]

We feel these are the last rulesets which were more about gaming and less about simplification and pushing the new hotness every year.
