I'm taking a very different route to most other Necromunda projects out there, I'm going for a rulebook gang.
They should turn out properly grimdark rather than the brighly coloured 'targets' on GW website.
Thanks goes out to Viktor von Domm, dsteingass, jackanory and Skrall for inspiration and to doubleT for the mud recipe.

Fluff and other miniatures will join when I've written it and GIMP'd the collages

So here goes nothing...

Bounty hunter with shotgun, lantern and baggage.
C&C welcome
And please comment which image is better, with or without flash?

No comments so far? Sacre Bleu!

Well, I'll bite. I like the look of the bounty hunter, the seek and destroy setup of lantern and double barrel shotgun works really well, and is complimented nicely by the elaborate getup.

What model will you be using for your actual Van Saar team? I ask only because being a fellow Van Saar I am always curious to see what's being fielded.

As for the no flash vs. flash argument it is hinged in what sort of lighting you are bringing to the table. I can see that in your current photos you have a very clean white and dull but more constant tungsten light source - so I am assuming this is a desk lamp and the light in your room? This sort of lighting suits more of a setting (i.e model in scenery) photography, but for your progress photos I would suggest using either 1 natural light source and a camera on the model's level, or alternatively setup a cheap DIY light box and illuminate the model from 2+ similar light sources.

I will keeping my eyes on this bad boy.

Good luck with it all.

Regards,

Archibald Jack

Glad I found this eventually (I do worry how many cool things I miss)

Very much like the bounty hunter. It is funny how good fantasy models work in the 40k setting. What I'm really impressed by is the double barrelled shotgun.

Looking forward to seeing him painted plus some van saars being built.

Great bit of converting - I love it when minis have their own story, rather than just another figure in a large army.

I'm using the men at arms bodies and pig iron gasmask heads and backpacks sprues. Weapons are built from repeater handbows because I've ~40 of them spare.

I'm using a desk lamp against a few sheets of white paper for the lighting. I find the flash spoils the metal bits and no flash spoils the details.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Gang leader, use tyhe zoom function in the gallery for a better look. The barrel of the pistol has been cleared out even though there is some flash in the pictures.

I'm not 100% on the shoulder pouches but they cover up the shield icon well enough.

My theme is around a team of workers from a gasworks that was destroyed, hence the masks and the coats.

Thanks for all the comments, especially to PHD, because I am seriously envious of your scavvies.

I'm always a fan of good conversions, especially from fantasy to 40k! (Then again, I play Vostroyans, so I'm somewhat partial)

I'm a huge fan of that shotgun! I know you said the stock was a repeater crossbow, but what about the barrels?

My only CC would be to pick up some other bits (you had mentioned Cadian and Catachan) to give you a few more options with your conversions. Some of the arms look a bit static or unnatural right now, and integrating some 40k arms would help with the grimdarking process.

Keep up the good work!

The barrels for the shotgun are from the dark elf warrior banner T piece, it has two little 'teeth' to attach it to the banner pole. Cut between the teeth, trim and glue Boom, shotgun!

It also has a little support rod underneath.

Some miliput should fix up the arms and elbows I hope.
The problem with the men at arms bodies it that the shoulders are already on the body and it would be a shame to have to remodel the shoulders on and the sleeves.

Sweet! I love using bits that start life lightyears away from what they end up as

Yeah, I know what you mean. Better get in some practice with that milliput

I'm using the T bars as all my barrels, as it makes making iron sights very easy. I also like the DE corsair gloves, they add to the completely cover gas worker theme, and look damn cool!

Awesome stuff! I love that combination of medieval and futuristic that you can achieve with the 40k universe! Looking forward to seeing how this gang develops.

The gang leaders sword arm has been removed and replaced with a warrior arm with the power sword attached. In real life the space marine hand looked like a giant mitten so it had to go.

Any way, after a day of rain I had the time to get these guys photographed and GIMP'd up.
Ganger one and ganger two. I had to get more left handedness into the warhammer world.

The lasguns are built on the same lines as the shotgun with a few tweaks.

C&C as always

Heavy, with 'heavy stubber' my friend gave me his GK spares and they're going to good use!

The bounty hunter is being painted, I'm planning a mottled green/grey camouflage pattern. The gangers will go grey, brown with some yellow in there. I have no clue to what colour the gasmasks or the lasguns should be, any ideas?

These dudes look great, I like the heavy's head - where is that from? With the leader I might try angling his head to look at his sword perhaps, or along his gun arm. For the bounty hunter, maybe add a chainsword to his backpack, being ridiculously tooled up is one of my favourite things about them and it would make him stand out.

The heavy coats and gasmasks would be perfect for a Prospector Gang. They look like great fun to play as well.

Great gang, and a really original use of parts! I'm really interested to see where you go with the camo colour scheme, was thinking you'd go more medieval with the colours. Will be watching this closely though, keep it up!

I've used my only decent chainsword in a conversion coming up soon.
The heavy's head is from the men at arms command sprue, I thought it looked Vin Diesel so had to have it on a heavy.
Thanks for the psycannon love! I thought I'd get a few haters wondering why I'd 'wasted' a good psycannon!
Not a huge fan of the prospector gang as they're outlaws and cant have heavy weapons. My strategy revolves around getting the best shot with my heavy stubbers. They do look quite interesting though, might try out a list or two...

The bounty hunter's camo scheme is a vile green with mottled grey, proper underhive camouflage. The gangers are more medieval, but I haven't worked out a good leather mix yet so they might go the same way as the hunter.

Hey great start DJ, I found the bretonians a little small for my tastes , brilliant sculpts though and loads of character ..like how you are making you weapons ,the shotguns look great , trying to figure out the bits though..

You wont guess the parts.
cut down repeater handbow from the DE corsair sprue
banner parts and arms from the DE warrior sprue,
general thinner pole parts.
Heads and packs are from pig iron.

Like!

I've always wanted to make a Cawdor gang with Bretonians (I think I've seen a couple somewhere on Dakka...). Used to annoy me that Cawdor were a hand-to-hand gang without any minis with hand-to-hand weapons.

Looking forward to seeing your Van Saars painted up.

Pig Iron also do gas masks w/o helmets, might be good for the juves?

Sorry, I think I wrote too much.

Unfortunately Plip I've still got 10 heads left on the sprue so it isn't worth me getting another 18 spares just to kit out two juves that will die rapidly.

For cawdor I would use empire flaggelants. 16 nutters in a box will do you a gang in one purchase, you might want to buy some heavy guns tho too.

4th Ganger, the odd order is because ganger 3 didn't GIMP properly.
The camo isnt really modern, just dark browns, greys and greens rather than the vivid green GW used for their van Saar gang.
