Romeo Filip joins Craig and Russ in the third chair. Romeo is the man behind Battlefoam.com and has been a die hard miniature war gamer for years.

Romeo got his miniature gaming start in the world of Warhammer 40,000, but lately is playing new games. So up first the crew examines the games that got us into the hobby and why we move from one miniature game to the next.

And speaking of trying new games the team then takes a close look at Dust Warfare. Why are Craig and Russ so excited about this game. Does Romeo share their enthusiasim?

All that and our other not-too-horrible segments including:

- The Hollywood Minute
- Total Fan Girl
- Do You Ever Notice
- When you wish upon a game
- & More

Still not done yet but great new episode so far. Like what you guys have been saying about GW, etc.. I'm in the same boat, but still addicted if anything just for the models alone. Pretty psyched about Dust Warfare, got nice allied & axis starter armies thanks to the old DT starter set. Hoping to pitch DW to my club when I get a chance to go through the rules.

And thanks for the BWG shout out Working with Dan has been nothing short of awesome so far. I had the whole deer in headlights thing going on after my Kickstarter till he came along

Okay, as I was listening to the first half of this episode my mind was filled with a single thought: How ing much did Privateer Press pay you for what was essentially an hour-long commercial? Between Russ & Romeo they pretty much accused GW of everything short of building a huge artificial butt that flies around and drops big ol' stinkies on gamers everywhere. Seriously guys, I thought you had moved past this sort of blatant fanboyism over a hundred episodes ago.

No hate, just disappointment.

Well, not really sure how much I bashed GW. And I think I stuck up for them more than a bit on the 'trying to grow the market point.'

But I'll not deny that 1) I am still, 100 episodes later, a huge fan of Privateer Press, and 2) Have yet to be impressed by GW business practices in the last 4 years we've been doing the show. So no, my opinion on those two points remains unchanged.

But I think this may drive home Romeo's central point. If you treat your fans and community the right way then when they talk about your game it WILL sound like a commercial, because they will become super fans.

I still get laughing fits whenever I hear Craig as the Drow in the Waterdeep episode.

'...We often banter back and forth about who has the most amusing slaves. We like to rate them, and then...'

Thanks to the echo, I did not hear rate. I also lost most of my drink that was in my mouth. I had to go back a coupe of times and make sure I heard right. Yeesh.

Almost through the episode and glad to hear Craid isn't using the echo as much as he did earlier in the episode.

Also, just a small note, but during the Dust review you mention that squad coherency was measured from the squad leader and this was first seen in startship troopers. This was a mechanic that was in Warzone back in the 90s. Also, I know Russ love to point out how awesome full color rulebooks are, but that is something Warzone also did back in the 90s before everyone else.

On a slightly related topic I chuckled when Romeo said something along the lines of, "Fantsy Flight can do no wrong," and all I could think about was...Warzone

Oh good catch on Warzone! I had forgotten about it there. SST was the first game I played regularly that used it, but I stand corrected!!

Also on the FFG can do no wrong: AT-43!! And there was some other pre-paint game they tried a couple years ago that was a total fail.

weren't they just distributing AT-43 and not producing it? And i think the prepainted game your thinking of is Warzone or Mutant Chronicles or whatever name they were using.

So what's the deal with the change to the Lost Chapters? I got an email from Libsyn, but when I logged in I couldn't access the latest LC and my normal subscription through iTunes isn't working.

I'm up for renewal next month and I'm looking forward to it, just want to make sure it's still an easy/automatic download (I'm lazy).

Mutant Chronicles! That was it!! Yep, total FFG fail.

New Lost Chapters: Yep the new system is good to go. The latest chapter (31) should be live in there tomorrow. Just had some crossed wires and it didn't go live quite as early as I'd hoped over there. That shouldn't be a problem going forward.

I miss Warzone .. like, the 1995 warzone. Always liked the overall Mutant Chronicles story.. too bad minis games for it just never seem to work.

And I'm not even ashamed to admit I watch the movie when they rerun it on SyFy every 2 weeks or so

Dust sounds interesting, but I really need to look at the rulebook for it to get past my skepticism about the background (based on the comics, which I find sort of silly).

I have such fond memories of Warzone. I started gaming with 40K and since I regularly gamed at Showcase where Chris Bledsoe worked I eventually got into Warzone with a bunch of friends. I love the direction a lot of the minis went with 2nd edition, but still have a soft spot for the 1st edition ones even if they are pretty bad by today's standards. But with 2nd edition it died in our area (and globally too).

One of my "If I win the lotto..." dreams would be to just buy the the rights for Warzone and Mutant Chronicles.

Cuz that would just make me embarrassed . . .

I'm right there with infinite. The echo effect made the words 'rate' and 'rating' sound like other words that are typically not discussed in such a light hearted manner. It certainly made that segment interesting!

Another good podcast.

But I really don't want to need another game! You make Dust Warfare sound so very keen, and if the models pictured above are an indication, it is.

I appreciated the comments on the futility of harshing on someones enjoyment.

That does not look very nice, and the walkers don't look too far out of scale for a 4x6 board (except perhaps for the big four-legged one?) which can often be a problem.

I think I will look into the rules, at least

Great episode guys! I have caught your enthusiasm for Dust Warfare big time, and went ahead and ordered the Dust Tactics Core Set, Warfare rulebook, two command squads, and two infantry squads. I am excited about playing an army scale wargame again, as the last time I did was Warhammer 40k second edition! Nowadays I just don't have the time to assemble, prime, and paint, so this game should allow me to get up and running fast, but give me the flexibility to do a little painting if I end up with enough time and desire to do so. I think Russ is right and that this game seems to be an excellent hybrid between prepaints and unpainted minis.

I am also like Russ in that I like a good, solid rules system, and everything I have heard about this game sounds amazing. How hand to hand combat is not handled differently really appeals to me because I really enjoy consistency in my rules. The reaction system sounds like a lot of fun, as overwatch was always one of my favorite parts of playing 40k and Necromunda. The suppression system sounds a lot better than leadership rolls. I am looking forward to reading the entire rulebook to see the details of how it all works together.

The best part is that my 14 year old daughter was looking at miniatures with me and said "I would totally play this game with you", so I've got someone to learn the game with when I get it next week.

Thanks again guys, and keep up the great shows. Your episodes just keep getting better!

Russ & Craig- It was great meeting you at Adepticon! It was awesome to meet you both and shake your hands.

1st- great show and great review of Dust Warfare. I havent taken the plunge on buying the game yet, although I have picked up both comic series. Beautiful art!
Only reason I havent jumped in is because my new Menoth army needs more modeling/painting love and I wouldnt have cycles to work on the Dust models. Also, having those giant guns on the walkers firing such short ranges on the tabletop kinda weirds me out. Maybe I will eventually jump in- I really like the characters in the comics so far, and I'd love to have them running around.

2nd- 3rd chair drama... 1st off, I had such a high opinion of Romeo and Battlefoam going into this episode. I loved his previous appearance, I like the Battlefoam product (I own 4 Battlefoam bags), and the way Battlefoam supports almost every show and the community made me think "this guy gets it". I was wrong. What an unprofessional troll he turned out to be. It was quite a swing to go from Curt Covert and Angelo to Romeo. I have to wonder if his business interests and his gaming opinions have met and cannot be separated. Either way, I think I need to re-evaluate my bag vendor...

3rd- Sorry to hear Raef hang up the mic. We will miss his humor and interesting perspective.

I love the show. Sorry to be a troll ("He Started it!!!"). Thanks for getting my blood up!

I don't understand why disagreeing with someone's private opinion should have anything to do with whether you purchase his product. I mean, it's not like he's advocating genocide, he just described his displeasure with some business policies of a game company. He used far less vitriol than most similar posts I've seen on this forum, in fact.

Ok, I filled out a Libsyn support ticket and the rss feed is working now. New problem is how the heck do I download the Lost Chapters?

The best I've been able to do is stream them through the browser on my desktop but can't get to them from my phone. Is there a super secret Lost Chapters rss feed somewhere?

I really enjoyed the episode.

In the debate over the negativity coming from the third chair and whether it's warranted or above and beyond, I think back a couple of episodes another business owner that took the third chair. Just drawing the pattern that I see, being the person that sits between gaming companies and end users is not an enviable position. You get to see how the sausage is made, and then have to decide whether or not you wish to push the sausage on to your customers. The fact that customers will clamor for the name brand sausage regardless of the substandard ingredients or inflated worth can't sit well upon the conscience of a good merchant. While at times crass, I thought that Romeo defended his points well, as did Dan from Myriad with his less than positive thoughts on some games/game companies.

It's interesting to see an army scale game that might be worth migrating to. I'll be waiting on it a bit, as my skirmish scale migration is ongoing. I'm hoping that Warpath will be fleshed out on that front in the next couple of years.

Be sure to send Charlie the Cherub out to make Raef do something for the show every now and then.

Good points. Not sure my reaction is rational. Here is my main point:
I want to buy from people who further the hobby, not just shoot down people that go against their business interests. Since we're a pretty small community, I think its important that we pick and choose to support businesses led by the right principles, who will further the hobby's growth positively. Not tear down others for their own benefit. By patronizing Romeo's business, I worry my money will go to people building something else... perhaps a massive death ray.
