Another weekend, another wad of stuff added to the existing pile of unpainted masses.

I blame Barzam for everything. I refuse to take responsibility for any of it!

The overwhelming bulk of my weekend was spent building models. Lots and lots of models. Why? I like building models. More than painting or playing even. I love gluing stuff together, putting pieces into place... I just can't help myself when it comes to unbuilt kits laying around.

Most of the time was spent going through my Shadows of Brimstone 1.5 box. 20 resin heroes, all with tiny connections, and some of the slipperiest resin I've dealt with in quite some time. I got crafty however, and after gluing them to their bases (after multiple attempts at gluing myself together), put all sorts of basing stuff on their, superglued the lot together, so at least there's a few more contact points with their legs, bases, and basing material. We'll get to see them later though, as they're all primed and will stay that way until I get back from Japan in July.

I did manage to do a bit of painting.

I got this Fighting Fungi Mushroom Wizard started:

He's pretty shrimpy. He's on a 30mm base, while his buddy behind him is on a 20mm square. Here they are with their buddy Archon, who received his tail from Prodos the other day.

That Archon is certainly a big fella, as those two mushrooms can attest to.

He also has a huge billowy cape that I finally figured out how to attach, so I'll prime him and start working on him when I get back from Japan as well. Prodos gave him a 60mm circle base, but there is no way that will hold this guy. His heels barely fit on it, nevermind the rest of his foot. I'm thinking I'll get a resin 80mm or 100mm base for him.

I started on some multi armed Khorne guys I made out of leftover Bloodbound parts.

My kids said it looked like I painted them with ketchup and mayo mixed together. It does look like a similar color consistency.

Also planning on starting on these two before I go.

I forget the knight's name, but he's from Valiant. He's also quite huge. More like 35mm than anything smaller. I have a mounted version of him as well, and his horse is truly gigantic. The dwarf is an Avatars of War dwarf, with guns and a pipe. At least he's not a vaping dwarf.

Also plan on starting these Wild West Exodus guys as hero upgrades for Shadows of Brimstone.

Wild Bill Hickok is on the left, next to him is a Shadows of Brimstone resin (male) Drifter class, then there's Bill the Boxer (Butcher?), and finally Pancho VIlla with his chaingun. I think Pancho Villa is supposed to have a pattern on his sombrero, but it was very difficult to see even before priming him.

I also have a massive pile of Orcs I'm trying to work through, to go with the shiny new Orruks I've been putting together.

Plus there's still my Knight from Renegade, which Barzam will not let me forget about, as well as Deathwatch Overkill and The Silver Tower...

What did I talk you into this time? Honestly, I forget.

It's nice to see that the Wild West Exodus figures do scale well with the Brimstone ones. How do the Malifaux ones stack up?

But yeah, finish your Knight. You only need to build and paint 1 thing to actually play the game. Come on!

You talked me into anything that got me a reproachful eye from the wife, naturally.

I was all set to put those dwarfs together, but it seems the world at large was more interested in them than me, and seeing as how we're probably going to get some rail passes while we're in Japan, I figure it's money that can be better spent on other things than toy soldiers. Would be cool to see Hokkaido and Kyoto, rather than just the Niigata countryside...

I'll see about getting that Knight started up on Wednesday.

I can probably take a picture of some Malifaux next to all the other figures, shouldn't be an issue. I'd imagine they line up pretty nice in height.

The Fighting Fungi was certainly a good campaign. I feel like I got my money's worth on that one.

I couldn't leave well enough alone, and started dabbling with the primed Brimstone resins.

The left guy is the male version of the Outlaw class, while the one on the right is the male version of the Orphan.

I painted them somewhat similar figuring the Orphan can grow up to be the bandit (even though the rules let them choose whatever class they want after achieving their goals).

Both need their guns finished, and the Orpahn needs his bandana done, but they both should be done before I have to go to Japan.

I wonder how many more I can fit in?

Doesn't help that after reading the new Deadzone rules the last few days, I felt myself inclined to finally build my Enforcers (and glue my fingers together repeatedly). Might get started on them now...

Orphan and Outlaw are done. They'll be showing up again this weekend with some more Brimstone buddies who are all suddenly getting painted.

So as I really try to digest the new Deadzone rules, I started tearing my house apart searching for some Enforcers. I couldn't find them anywhere! Plastic, restic, anything in between- all had disappeared!

After a thorough search, I did finally find them tucked in a box tucked in another box tucked in a bin tucked away in the corner of the garage. I promptly started working on them.

I started with the 5 man restic squad, which also matches up with the starting game squad in the new hardback rulebook. Coincidentally they also match up with my Tau suits. Filthy xeno sympathizers the GCPS is!

They're in need of a lot of touch up, and inking as well. Despite how it looks, they are actually all painted- that's not the stock restic.

I've also been going full steam on various Khorne units.

I'm happy with this guy. Just a generic Bloodbound from the Age of Sigmar starter.

My brothers in "arms." What a terrible pun. Still need to touch up the weapons, and detail all the spikey parts, but they're just about finished.

These are Skullreapers I believe? Fun figures.

Even more random Khorne stuff. Wrathmonger, Skullgrinder, Bloodbound... what a hodge podge assortment of nouns!

I really want to get another box of those Wrathmonger/ Skullreaper guys. So many fun and interesting parts in it! Need some on round bases anyways...

Seems pretty Khorney. How many Bloodbound do yiu have finished now? It seems like you painted a ton of them.

Enforcers definitely need some inking love. What made you go for an asymmetrical scheme?

Any work on that Knight yet? Or the sci-fi terrain you've got?

Yeah, all that Khorne stuff is pretty Khorney. No clue how many I've painted now. Probably half of them? Around 10?

Enforcers will get ink this weekend. They're asymmetrical because they hang with my Tau, and have matching patterning on their armor.

No knight work. Probably not til I'm back from Japan. Had hoped to do it Saturday, but I'm stuck doing our dad's job it seems, so I probably won't have time.

We'll see how Sunday pans out for me getting to spray the thing down with a metallic coat.

The Bloodbound Gang look pretty good just doing like they do on the Discovery Channel. (Killing wildebeest, right?). Love them.

The Enforcers look a bit off to me, but ink might fix them. It feels like they either need more yellow, or some other non-greyscale color on them for balance-- like red pectorals or something? Right now they look like some kind of Starfox villain that's lost one glowy bit.

Hopefully the color distinction is a bit better on the Enforcers now?

I still need to go back and highlight things, as they're even darker currently than they are in this picture. Damn my need to continually tinker with them!

I don't think I'll be able to finish up all the restic guys before June drops, as I went all in with the Sigmar starter's Bloodbound.

It may not be noticeable, but every single Bloodbound is totally unique at this point. Nobody matches. Sure, they are all techincally doubles of each other, but most if not all got simple conversions, mainly head and weapons swaps.

I picked up what is probably the last Forsaken box in my area this weekend, and with the intent of getting another box of Skullreaping Wrathmongers and the actual plastic Bloodbound kit, with the plan of smashing them all together in a glorious orgy of blood and chaos.

Back from vacation, recovering from jet lag and a million different problems that all seem to have sprung up in my absence...

I managed to get a single figure painted!

Picture is kind of chalky, but I'm happy with how she turned out. I gave up trying to paint the yellow eyes like she's supposed to have. Which is sad, as the weird eyes are what drew me to this character in the first place.

I painted all her little parasitic worm grub things around on the base- she's full of them like the guy from Blade of the Immortal, and can't die then.

Poots is such an anime nerd. Not sure what that says about me for seeing such an obvious homage.

Really fond of this figure and her design. I have a few of the other "classes" from Kingdom Death, so I hope to get started on painting them over the month of July.

Naturally when I go to order a Storm Knight pinup today as well for my birthday, Poots switches out figures for expansions again! Ugh. Hopefully that means next time figures show up, we'll see some more new stuff. Or an encore Visionary. I missed those.

Huzzah! Another birthday down, another year of inching ever closer to the big FORTY. I am officially OLD.

What better way to celebrate than painting up brand new toys? In that case, here's my latest Kingdom Death lady- the druid class!

I didn't do her hair as dark as the artwork, but I think it works. Irritated with the base- 3 different greens and it all looks the same. Those branch antler horns were super fiddly as well, but that's Kingdom Death for you.

Up next, a random Dark Elf Assassin from Avatars of War (or as they call them "Dread Elves.")

A fairly simple figure that was in far too many pieces that did not want to go together. I won in the end though!

I got a ridiculously large pile of Avatars of War figures recently for the price of 3 of them. The original owner had listed them incorrectly on eBay, so naturally I needed to help them rectify that situation. Expect a lot more Avatars stuff in the next few weeks.

Question now is what Kingdom Death stuff to do next? The black knight, a cleric, or something from the board game?

Cool looking Kingdom Death models - they've come up very nicely. I assume those are part of the "pinups" range?

Made in us

California the Southern

I don't think those Kingdom Death ladies are actually considered pinups, despite their (lack of) clothing. They were part of the generic fantasy class line of figures they've been making. I've got the cleric as well, and I know they've done a thief and mage as well.

As promised, I started working on the Black Knight. He has a while to go, but I'm sure he'll start showing up here soon enough. Before that though, I started working on the original survivors.

I need to fix the dude's eyebrows, but eh, they're good enough. The other two are almost finished. Just need to touch up their hair, and have some kind of light coming out of the lanterns.

In the meantime I finished up a couple of figures that have been sitting in front of me since I got home. Some from before we even left in fact.

I finally got my mushroom mage finished, who has been popping up in photos for a few months now. He got a spearmen friend while he was at it! I'm going to try and get some more of my Fighting Fungi finished before the inevitable evil dwarf campaign from Ganesha Games gets under way.

Here's another figure that's been sitting around my house for a LONG time. It's basically Death from the Darksiders 2 video game. I am somewhat satisfied with how he turned out. Tried to paint him more like the actual game colors, as his package is done in totally different colors, most likely to keep the company (Tale of War, in case you're curious) out of any kind of copyright trouble.

Despite how he looks, he is not a dwarf! He does have legs, despite how thick his leg armor is, plus the fact that he's kind of squatting makes him look a bit stumpy.

I'm giving some very serious consideration to picking up the other two related figures that Tale of War made. Problem is they aren't easy to come across.

Here is one of Avatar's of War's newer releases, the Knight of Drumminor. He has a pet birdie! He's almost done, I need to do some highlighting and wash a few spots. I have about six other Avatars of War figures almost done, so we'll be seeing a lot of them in the next few weeks.

Now for something REALLY different for me.

This is Hitech Miniatures' "Iron Giants Archfather: Proturbo." He's obviously Perturabo, primarch of the Iron Warriors. There's just so much surface detail on him, I'm trying to come to grips with how it will all com together.

And obivously since he's supposed to be a primarch, he's got to be very big. Still have a lot to do with him.

That's another Avatars of War figure next to him, on a 30mm base. I think I forgot to photograph her. Next time!

Did some more work on the Iron Warrior not- Primarch

It's hard to get him at a good angle. There's always something in the way or turned oddly.

Here's that Barbarian Chief/ Headhunter/ Chaos Maruader lady I did the other day. She really didn't photograph well. All the colors look too similar.

A few more random guys I got done the other day.

A Bones "Packrat." an Avatars of War Dwarf Engineer who also doesn't want to be photographed properly, and some sort of dwarf champion from Avatars who is also hitting the pipe pretty heavily there.

And now for something even more unrelated, I popped open the Sefadu box for Recon. I really like their bizarre helmets. I can't tell if they're wearing brown pants, or they have shorts on and that's bare skin. There's a few of them who are going shirtless as it is, so it's hard to discern.

Considering Sefadu are supposed to be based out of Africa, seemed appropriate to paint the civilians that were included with them similarly.

Here's fleeing lady civilian. Not sure where she's headed. Hot date perhaps? Overzealous fan chasing her? Dunno. I finished her up since I took this photo as well. For this she's just basic colors, no highlights or washing.

Here's captured middle management guy. Poor sap just can't get a break! This sculpt seems like one that could get a lot of use across a lot of game types...

Here's middle management guy held hostage by a bunch of 15mm bugmen that I finally got around to finishing, other than their bases.

Fun stuff! Say what you will about how Megacon has run their games, but there's no denying at the end of the day you get a lot of bang for your buck from them.

Everything is looking good from what I can see. The added stripes on Perturabo really complete the look.

I'm pretty sure the Sefadu are supposed to be wearing shorts with bare legs. I painted mine to be wearing an undersuit, though. I think they just all around look better that way.

Another one done, another 10 added to the pile!

This is a Dragyri Fire Caste character from CMON's Dark Age. He's pretty funky. He's got this weird metallic armor that doesn't cover his entire body, and this crazy weird gold poncho. Hard to get a photo of him since he's twisting and turning in just about every direction. I believe he's supposed to be on a 50mm base, but I can't make up my mind what kind of base I want him to be on, so he's stuck on a 40mm base for now.

Also fininshed the other two Kingdom Death starting survivors.

The ink was really splotchy on their skin so they got cleaned up a bit after this photo.

Here they are with their buddies, all set to start a game finally!

Now to paint that lion so we can actually play...

Those KD survivors are pretty fabulous looking for having no food, shelter, or semblance of language.

I'm looking forward to the Sefadu stuff too. Unfortunately there's been a bit of a fungus outbreak on my painting table.

I don't know if we're still doing the painting challenge, but for the rest of July I would like to finally wrap up all of my Fighting Fungi pledge from a year or two back.

First up, an armored spearmen, with a terrible mushroom painted on his shield.

Another spearmen, this time using the modular body Ganesha Games put out.

A mushroom bard/ drummer/ half time performer with the most phallic looking drumsticks I have ever seen. It took a lot of self control to keep the inner 13 year old inside me from painting them various shades of pink. Would have given that stupid grin on his face a whole new meaning. I love this figure. He has such a goofy look on his face, plus his instruments are growing out of his chest- he even has some on his rear end!

An enoki ranger. I like enoki, but they always get stuck in my teeth. I really like this model, as he's my favorite type of mushroom to eat (unless Ganesha make a shiitake at some point).

And the evil enoki cleric. All that growth on him is supposed to be some sort of evil fungus that taints the other fungi (Yo dawg, I heard you like fungus...)

This is a swamp lion fungus monster. I had hoped it would be bigger, but alas, it is just about the same size as all the others.

With this, I've finished up most of the smaller fungi. Now it's time to move on to the large pieces, and some of them really were quite large...
