Hey everyone. I am possibly returning to 40k after many years away from it. Briefly looking over the rules, it appears that 6th edition really helped the Tau out. I came up with this list as a sort of mobile gunline, let me know what you think.

TOTAL: 1999

The idea is that fire warriors provide long range mobile fire, escorted by the tank and the Helios team. The HQ teams and Broadsides sit back protecting one another while providing long range fire concentrating on tanks and large armored threats. Thoughts? I realize there are no transports, but I feel like with the change to shooting, having a foot slogging troops isn't that detrimental, especially with how fragile tanks seem to be in this edition.

The target lock is useless in this edition per the FAQ. The disruption pod is also useless as you can get the same cover save just for moving. Use those points for...well really anything. You could HW a gun drone to one of your bodyguards, give a commander stimulant injectors, or buy another fire warrior.

List is very solid, just spend those useless points on something else.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Right off the bat I would say that buying body guards before filling out your elite slots is a no-no. You're paying a premium for those guys, and you have plenty of room for cheaper suits in the elites section.

As I understand it, the target lock for Vehicles has a different description and is actually still useful. Only the infantry target lock became null and void. Or at least, that is what the internet has led me to believe (and the internet is never wrong you know. )

Disruption pods can still be useful on turn 1 before I've had a chance to move or if my tank becomes immobilized. And really, what else can I spend 5 points on and still be useful.

Right, reason for bodyguards instead of Elites was because Tau have nothing to fight aircraft with now. The Bodyguards allow me to have TL Missile Pods giving me some solid air defense (as best as Tau can do, mind you) while still benefitting from the firepower of plasma and not sacrificing the utility of having to chose between which one to shoot.

Why not take a Farseer? They seem almost manditory for Tau now. Re-rolling all hits just seems too good to miss, whilst re-rolling saves or overwatching at full balistic skill also seem great buffs for any Tau army (not to mention the best psychic defence in the game).

If you want Flyer defence why not take a Quadgun? For less points you get far better air protection than those expensive bodyguards.

This would be nice but most people are saying that the Eldar buffs only go on Eldar, not on battle brothers. I think thats poppy cock as they are as close as you can get as a combined force.

HAHA! I believe I have found a solution for the nerfing of the target lock. If you get to 2000 points force organization effectively doubles, giving you 6 heavy support choices. So indulge yourself to a 2 or 3 railhead list and still grab 3 XV88's that can split fire. (sigh of relief)

First off, I really like this list, especially for someone who's been away for so long. Looks like you did your homework. Here's what I think:

1. More and more, I like XV88>>Hammerhead. Twin-linked is way too important to pass up. And with all those fire warriors, you hardly need the anti-horde versatility that the submunition provides. Plus, as your only vehicle, it will die. I would dump the HH, and replace it with an additional squad of XV88s.

2. You can't have a MT on your XV88s anymore. Dump them for targeting arrays. Plasma rifles are great, but you might need the points elsewhere, especially if you want to upgrade from a HH to another XV88 team.

3. I like the team leaders on the fire warrior squads, but I don't think the bonding knives are necessary. Under the new rules, you only have problems with regrouping when you're under 25% (for you, that means you need to be down to 2 guys...)

4. I REALLY like the bodyguards... why? You get to have your precise shot with EVERY guy in the squad. This will be deadly.

Good luck!

Its a nice list though i have to agree with the fact that the HH might not be needed.
Personally i would think to invest in markerlights , especially now that you can strip off cover saves far easier. Also do not forget the +1 BS you can pick , imagine a FW unit with boosted BS or the Xv88's .
Also the stealth suits now seem very promising with the changes in stealth and acute senses , perhaps making a Stealth suit team equipped with markerlights.

Farseers can only use their codex psychic powers on other eldar units; however, you can swap out their powers for BRB powers, which include Prescience under divination (you can always default to that) which doubles as Guide, but better - reroll all failed to hits (Shooting, CC, etc).

Definitely worth it. Only question is what Troop to take with the Farseer. Probably rangers with a Tau list.

I would drop the MT on the 88's in favor of A.S.S. The new rules for slow and purposeful basically let you just move and shoot normally now. Shooting both plasma and rail guns is generally unnecessary anyway. moving and shooting helps you threaten tanks that were thought safe behind buildings and such. Or, if you fancy auto-kills, go for the targeting array.

If I understand the Multitracker properly, it is the only way you can fire multiple weapons, right? Slow and Purposeful doesn't let you fire more than 1 weapon.

One thing, on the crisis and broadside teams, you only need to spend 5 points on the team leaders rather than the 10 on the shas'vre, as team leaders get armoury access but not access to special issue, which youre not using anyway, frees up a few extra points for wargear/drone/etc

You are correct. But what I am trying to say is that firing both weapons is generally unnecessary, especially with SMS, as railguns and SMS are polar opposites when it comes to battlefield roles.
