Subject: Genius Factory Games needs your help-- which "Space Federation Target Marker" design is better?

Hello DakkaDakka!
So, we at Genius Factory Games have been working on several new counter designs that will be available shortly. However, we've been running into some snags with one of our more recent designs and would like to take this opportunity to solicit some feedback as to what the community wants.
Our latest design is for a "Space Federation Target Marker" counter. This counter can be used to keep track of the effects of units equipped with laser target designators on the battlefield. However, we've run into a design snag-- namely, whether or not to include text in our design. We feel that the text adds clarity to what the counter represents, especially for those unfamiliar with the "Space Federation" æsthetic, but we're not sure whether the community would prefer more basic designs, as seen with our "Space Undead" line. Below is a preliminary (iPhone) picture of the two prototypes-- one with text and one without--
Now that you've seen a picture of the designs in question, which one would you guys prefer for us to produce? Is there another option that you think might look even better? We've posted a poll attached to this thread that you can use to let us know your thoughts, but if you have any other comments or remarks, feel free to let us know either by replying to this thread or via email at support@geniusfactorygames.com. As always, feel free to send in any other suggestions, comments, or feedback that you guys have-- we love hearing from the community!

I think the left design is nicer (circles are certainly aesthetically pleasing), I find the right design a little too empty. Not sure what more to say than that

What do you think of the text on the left design? Would a similar version without text be more or less appealing?

I actually prefer it with text. Without the text, it could be a little confusing for new players. And, assuming you're basing the marker on GW's Tau, the font seems to fit nicely with their font:
Although it would be even better if you could use the actual symbol version of 'Target Marked', however I don't know if that's legal... Automatically Appended Next Post: Plus that contradicts what I said about being confusing to new players

Yeah, while those are certainly cool suggestions, there might be legal issues with implementing them. Also, as you pointed out, using that sort of approach would sort of take away the point of having a design that is easy to read for new players! Thanks for the feedback, though. We'll look and see if there's a way to incorporate some of these design elements.

Hey guys, just posting here to say thanks for all the feedback! In accordance with the community's thoughts, we've decided to go with the "text-included" version of this counter. However, we've refined the design somewhat by incorporating smaller text than in our original counter, hence decreasing visual cluster. Below is a picture of our new design:
The new counters are available from our webstore in sets of four.
Thanks again for the feedback-- we couldn't do it without you! If you have any more comments or questions, feel free to either comment here or email us at support@geniusfactorygames.com!
