Hi All,
Apologies another 'side-project' blog from me. This time the start of my Mordheim project...Undead Warband: "The Night-Marchers"

Dakka, in my opinion's, more a 40k kinda crowd but some of you may be interested in Mordheim or WHFB Vampire Counts so this ones for you, and plus I like it here

Again this will be a slower-paced long term WIP project but I'm happy with what I've made so far.

I never played Mordheim as a kid...but as I love my skirmish games and I've been playing a lot of Skyrim on the Xbox lately, I felt in a "swords and sorcery" kinda mood so decide to have a bash at this! I was gonna go for Skaven but anyone who knows me knows I'm mad about vampires and their lore and love my horror too so it had to be Undead really. Started with the leader...the vampire! (Showcased on my 'Munda blog originally)

Whilst researching what to build I discovered the most wonderful work by other artists...I'd like to show a couple pics here quickly but will use 'spoilers' incase ya not so interested in this and just wanna see my stuff:

1.
Spoiler:
So f-ing sweet! The wonderful work of 'Captain Normandy', french chap and GD winner. I truely love this guy's work here, so striking! I knew what parts he'd used and was so temped to pull a rip-off job for my own vamp (say maybe a head swap but basically a rip off) but choose not to coz thats not cool really...but hats off to the guy!

2.
Spoiler:
A heavy armored Vamp by 'Abhorash' on coolminiornot. Just sick, so powerful and arrogant, loved it!

So with those two fresh in my mind I wanted to try and pull off a kinda combo of both ideas. I wanted him armed with a sword and a mace. Have a shield to hand too and be both heavily armored and spookily robed-up! I tried lots of base minis...VC Wight Lord, was a little too short. VC winged Vamp Lord, I was gonna rework the wing-arm but mini wasn't commanding enough for me. I even tried a near scratch build from a few odd Bestigor parts but sadly all failed. Then it slapped me in the face like a wet fish-head! The Chaos Sorcerer kit!

I'd already used this mini for another project so was hesitant to used the same base model again but just couldn't find a better starting point so here he is:
Unnamed as yet Vampire:

I really enjoyed adding the trade mark metal fatigue alot of the newer VC models have to his weapons and armor. I DID NOT however enjoy making his ruined chain-mail, it was such a nightmare of a job but turned out quite nice in the end. I'm also pretty happy with his head...felt it had a kinda 'Lost Boys' feel to it. So thats him done, save for the base and paint.

I've cobbled together 3/4 Ghoul henchmen just from bits from the standard GW kit I had left over. I liked them as they were really so no conversion work needed (won't bother with WIP pics for those now), next update will be my warbands Necromancer from VC Corpse Cart bits!

Also just a wild idea at the mo, but I'd really like a bash at some Shadow Warriors too. Although their rule-set has be pretty dis-credited as 'over powered' from what I've read on the net, I'd still like to make some stealthy ninja high elves at some stage too!

So thats it for now. Cheers for reading and all comments/crits welcome!

Wow that Captain Normandy vampire is really awesome, what parts did you think it was made from?

So I already commented on these guys elsewhere, they are very cool. Will you get a chance to use the Krell mini in your gang? One of my favourite models of recent times I think.

Do you plan to play Mordheim or just make some models for it? I have always been half tempted but like Necro it has a high barrier for entry in that you need a fucktonne of scenery that I don't have.

Its nice to see a Mordheim thread every now and again. I've wanted to try out the system for a while now. I always like the Undead in Mordheim, as it is a game of conversions and Scratch-builds.

I like the work so far, is there a list you're working to, or are you just winging it?

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

@ Bruticus - (First off sorry mate for starting a side blog...I'm just a bit OCD with ordering mini ideas/projects into the right boxes haha)

So yeah from what I can gather its:
Head: One of the corpse cart driver options with GS hair.
Body: Is the FW rogue psyker, de-sci-fied.
Gloves/Hands: Are from a SOB mini, not sure which.
Weapons: Spear: unsure? (but any would do really TBH) Sword: From zombie arm from again the corpse cart.

Funny you say that mate coz I was tempted to try him out for the vamp base but I really don't like Finecast. I've been unhappy with it before so prob not sadly.

I've got the box set...a lucky ebay find, so its all there but I don't have much of a gaming group at present but one of the guys has a Skaven force so could set up a game at some stage once my lot are built.

@ Brotheralexos - Thanks very much Yeah I've got a list drawn up on the pc. Thats always my starting point for a project...then added to that is an ideal progression/end game section so I can try plan out what he may need to have represented. I don't know how to magnetize minis and such so I always try to build 'em so I can use them at the start and the end of a campaign (well ya know with a little bit of artist lience)

I didn't recognise the renegade psyker, it must have taken ages to resculpt that. Finecast is pretty crap but on a beefy model like Krell you would probably avoid all the bending. I have a Isabella Von Carstein and I can't be bothered with it as it just flops around on the base on one fragile ankle due to being so small and delicate.

Yeah I bought her too and Astorath The Grim and they were both rubbish...well unimpressed. I won't use it again unless there really isn't any other way to make something. I don't work with metal either but would def choose that over finecast anyday!
