@World XEater
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the props. I will be posting a full army shot soon. Got a lot going on with my army right now. I decided to make a comprehensive list of stuff that i am going to attempt to pull off by the end of next year. I sold off my ultramarines on Ebay yesterday and today so i have no other modeling projects that are eating up my time. So far….this is what i have got on my plate to deal with…

I have 5 nurgle spawn to be converted.
2 Nurgle sorcerers and one nurgle lord to be painted and partially converted.
50 cultists to be painted and partially converted.
One defiler to assemble, convert and paint
One defiler to paint.
One soul-grinder to assemble, convert and paint.
about 14 new plague marines to paint
5 havoc with 4 auto cannon to paint and convert
20 plaguebearers to assemble and paint
21 nurgling bases to paint (good lord)
1 demon prince to paint
1 rhino to paint and convert
1 more landraider to paint and convert
Two hell brutes to be assembled, converted and painted

10 Assault marines to paint and convert
13 chosen to paint and convert

All i plan on buying is a single hell drake… and a partridge in a pear tree.
151 models or there a bouts.

Groan. Holds head in hands. This is my own personal modeling and painting challenge.

BUT if you read throughout this abysmal mess/personal challenge you will be amongst the first to hear that i am going to be starting a new chapter that i will ally with my Mortise Apostate. They are going to be a offshoot of the word bearers perhaps…. I was thinking of painting them silver and gold and absolutely drenching their armor in blood. Lots of scroll work and the like in evidence. Test models should be in the works soon. This is a project that i have been mulling over for a while. I wanted to start an allied army for a long time. Deathguard are a army that while fun to convert has very little pop on the table. I prefer the darker more drab colors for them and have long wanted to include units that would look a bit more bright in contrast. In the past these units have all been from my deamons list that i allie, however i think a new band of marines is what the doctor ordered.

i know your pain on having a billion models to do...just keep plugging away and it will get smaller it always does and resist the temptation of new stuff thats the hard part.

Actually got my self a rather expensive bday/xmas present to my self so i been workings on that (2k points worth of guard)

well i have most of squad one done of my nurgle force.

squad number two is in the soak (metal plague marines gw made) and the two rhinos are basically sitting until i get some good inspiration or until i get this hoard of guard under control.
I had a word bear spliter war band too mine were called the deliverers of the pure word...even wrote some fluff about them...alas i traded that army and started the iron warriors in there stead. so not all is lost.

Happy New years DAkkaDakka.
New years resolution.
Buy no new Warhammer 40k that is not listed in the mess that i have posted below. Finish assembly and painting on those same 151 miniatures. This is a monumental resolution considering my history of painting very very slowly.

Hope everyones had a great New years.

Been out of the loop. I have been working a lot in my new job as a social worker (despite being a trained evolutionary biologist i get paid better doing what i have no certification to do go figure) so i havent been spending as much time on the hobby as i would normally. Got into a bit of a funk with the hobby, but my funk has cleared, or rather settled.

Making some progress on my backlog of models. The last couple of days (three day weekend here in the states) I have been tearing into finishing up my nurgle spawn. First of the 150+ models that i needs to paint and convert. As i have been playing more games with chaos daemons as my primary attachment, i have found that i need something fairly beefy to cause problems for my foes armies. What ever it is has to be fast moving too. So, to that end i started work on my chaos spawn. They turned out pretty fairly so far. I have to base them and then add some paint but overall i am happy. The first of these, FIDO, turned out great. Really happy with the cyclops with dangling tongue and fangs look. I tried to give each of them a bit of a theme so that none really looks identical to the last. I am going to construct one more using left over space marine bits and a ton of GS, but that is a ways away on my work bench.

welcome back and as usual comments and questions are appreciated.

What color do you think i should make them. I am thinking that i may go with something like flesh for a couple and pale rotted yellowish and whitish for the rest.

Been working on doing some painting. That said, i have also been working on finishing some of my sculpting projects. This is what i have been working on most recently. My second Nurgle soul grinder. The soul grinder with its extreme durability and the ability to deepstrike or provide fire support mission depending make it an awesome choice for my current lists. I have been working to finish this one up. Nurgle soul grinders are constucted in a different fashion from other gods. The spirit of the daemon is first coerced into this realm and symbolically trapped in a sealed cask located in the middle of the grinder. The Majority of the soul grinder is built as a framework. Bodies and peices of skin and flesh are drapped over the soul grinder to act as a medium for the summoning of the daemon spirit. Once summoned the daemon sets about improving this framework and Grows the flesh to provide a suitable vessel. Unlike the trapped and bound spirits of other war gods, Nurgle soul grinders are free spirits welcomed into this plane to practice their love for all.

Got sent home from work for a couple of hours due to a power outage and decided to make the most of it by updating what i can. I have been working on painting up some of the last of 20 metal plague bearers that i have. They will be part of an uber unit consisting of Epidemius, a herald with Fecundity, and 20 strong plague bearers. I deepstrike it in the midst of my foes objectives and hope to outlast the opposition. THE plague bearers are a little ways from being done. I still need to sponge weather their swords and pick out some of the little details. But they are coming along fine. I really like how the gutz turned out on the one bearer. I have a bottle of nurgles rot, but just cant bring myself to sully up my models with it. Likely i will continue to use it on bases where i have pools of slime and the like.

The soul grinder has been coming along. I went with a single horn growing out of his shoulder and attached both the gun and the scythe to the model. I am going to add some chains dangling around his waist and some heads here and there as trophy (maybe).

Comments are appreciated as usual.

Never heard that one before. It's a nice piece of fluff, even if it doesn't quite fit with what I have in mind for my army.

The Soul Grinder is looking really good so far. Love the scythe arm. Looking forward to see what you do with the face.

The Biker Lord is nice, but it doesn't blow me away. Compared to the other bikers he just doesn't scream "important character" to me, which I think he should.

yeah. I agree with the biker lord. I am struggling with how to make him really stand out. he has a ton of extra bitz, but they just didnt make him pop compared with the other models that i have.

I am pretty happy with the soul grinder though.

Been working on my spawn. This spawn was the first to be painted for a number of reasons. My buddy Magnusthered assembled it. For some reason i sometimes feel like stuff that other people assemble looks more original or more different than stuff that i put together. He had about ten spawn in a box and sold me five for $50. A great deal. This one was the only one that was assembled all the way. I started off by washing the whole model with a layer of dwarf flesh and then a layer of burnt umber. Both were thinned way down. I then drybrushed this one with an unseasonably large number of layers trying to get the pustulant look. I am still not fully happy with the outcome but i am going to play with it a bit more. I am gonna try a bit of the new Gore paint on the buboes that he has scattered on his shoulders and arms. Pretty happy with how the base turned out. All of my bases have bits of Bloodangels scattered on them because blood angels are weenies. The color also helps when your whole army is washed out browns and greens. I was going to paint a bunch of wordbears up but the color similarity between the bits on the bases and my potential allies is a bit too close. So, in keeping with the fluff i am thinking i might go with Nightlords as they are the only legion reputed to be on good terms with mortorion.

As always comments are questions are appreciated.

The eye of terror

Well it's taken me a while to work through but there's some real highlights in here, always good to see someone taking care and time with nurgle stuff instead of random bits of greenstuff etc.

The landraiders are just gorgeous as is the shadowsword, I love a good tank, actually on that note I like the vindicators too, probably my favourite rhino variant kit and you've certainly done them justice.

I also love the chaos'd up fortress of redemption, any well done Imperial -> chaos terrain is all good inspiration. Need to get working on my nurgle soulgrinder again, after looking at yours, but very tempted to wait and get one of those GS tentacle makers before I do, mines a little lazier though sculpting over the original body

Will be watching for further developments

I loved looking through your blog too. The GS blight drone is awesome. How did you gaff yourself through your nail though?

Tanks are my favorite and with a burgle army, they are pretty much your bread and butter. The Shadow sword was a gift from Magnusthered, actually the predator, the defiler and a couple of others come from him one way or another. I really enjoyed converting them. I am mid conversion on another land raider. Not quite as ornate but still a handful to finish.

Cant wait to see how you your soul grinder turns out.
Anyhow. I will be keeping a close eye on your blog, and thanks again for stopping by.

Hey. WE have all done it. I once glued my whole ball and instep of one foot to the floor. Had to rip the callus right off. Seeing your blight drone has made me think that i might try building one up myself. For now i am just going to work to finish some of the painting i have backlogged. THese five (four now) spawn are on the painting table. l also want to finish up ten cultists and twenty plague bearers. Ohhh where does the time go.

So i been working on finishing up the spawn. The one i been working on is almost done, i figure if i spend an hour or so on it, adding more flesh tones to the flesh, and then painting up the base, i should be able to consider it done. Only thing that has been holding me up has been the humidity and the rain. Our house gets so humid that paint does not readily dry unless i have it under a lamp, especially if i am trying out washes.

I also started on the cultists. I am working on speed painting them. This is my first effort using zenithal lighting. I have been painting the model with a black base and then hitting it with a light mist of white over the top. I try and coat the whole top of the model and then use a few short bursts from the side. I painted the model almost entirely with inks. Initially it turned out a bit too bright so i washed over the ink with some Badab Black and drybrushed on some highlights with Underhive ash. I feel like it turned out pretty well. I may need to tone it down a bit but the contrast of red to blue is nice if a bit revolutionary war looking. The cultists from Dark Vengence are meant to be renegade PDF forces. The blue jacket with brown boots and leggings just didnt stand out brightly enough so i added the red hood. The whole thing takes about thirty minutes i think to paint.

Any comments would be appreciated.

I hadn't stopped by for some time, great all around!

The Spawn looks ace, and the cultist is ace, hard to believe it was done in half an hour! (I know I could not do it in ten times that much!)

Zenithal paid off, though I agree, it may be a tad too shiny still.

Nice work on the cultist. I'm surprised to see you get so much out of the technique you describe.

If it were mine, I'd add some fleshier-looking tones to the skin. But you may have achieved the look you're going for -- kind of ashy and greenish and diseased.

Either way, looking good!

And I love the eyes on the back of the spawn.

Thanks Littletower and tinfoil!

You know, the Zenithal painting was really pretty easy. I just base coated everything with black paint and then used bursts of white paint from directly above and then from about 45 degrees to a side.

The rest of the model is just inked for the most part and then dry brushed.

@Littletower, your right. Too shiny. I am just afraid of spraying it with clear coat because it might snowflake in this extreme humidity we have here.

I agree tinfoil, the flesh tones are not the best. Its just bleached bone with a wash of ogryn skin. The inks are really where its at. The whole model is pretty well shaded before i ever dry brushed it. THis is the second model i have painted this way. I'm not going to start trying this with my space marines till i get a airbrush but for now, with these cultists i feel like the look is pretty good.

Are the colors too continental revolutionary looking to you.
