I think you might be right about that one.

The next survivor was my least favourite when he first arrived, but it turns out that a lot of the detail was being hidden by the blindingly orange plastic he was cast in. It also didn't occur to me until after I'd finished him that I sould have painted him as Ronald McDonald...

Blogger appears to have messed with my image, so the colours and transitions are looking a bit off... but you get the gist.

I hate clowns but I like the way that you painted these minis. I'm happy that you didn't paint it up as Ronald McDonald.

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

WOW this is defiantly the coolest Zombicide set I've seen so far! How do you go about painting your zombie flesh I must ask?

Some more sets of survivors for you. This time it is definitely not Snake Plisken or some cannibal guy

The Snake model was quite nice to paint up; the Hannibal one on the other hand is very bland. His zombivore face is especially bad. Still.. they look pretty good on the shelf next to the other survivors/zombivors so that's all that relaly matters.

On a different note, I'm starting to have a clearout of some bits that I don't use, including lots of Infinity (some built, some still in the boxes), my Deadzone kickstarter models/rules and vast quantities of Dust (German and Allied forces) if anyone is interested? I'm even contemplating parting ways with my Guard force as I've not even opened the case since Arakasi moved to the other side of the world... and that was back in 5th Edition land!

That snake model is utterly fantastic. And I must say for a while I've been considering buying Zombicide but I always talked myself out of it... Unfortunately because your models where so cool I managed to drop $120 so I can get the base game, and toxic city mall ( because how could I not want zombivores! ) So thanks haha

Well, long time no see Dakka. Much like Gits, I've sort of hit a wall at the moment for hobby time so I'd forgotten to come back and post the last few zombicide bits I'd painted before the block. Doh!
So you get a nice big picture dump now to make up for it

Rick finally got his zombivor version

We've got a chainsaw wielding lunatic. The attempt at stubble doesn't quite come across in these photos (or on the model to be honest...), but for now he's done

Ed was a fun one to paint up

Dirty Harry needs a bath... and possibly a sticky plaster for that stratch

And finally the toxic zombie horde is now complete *phew*

I'm bored of zombies now! This was probably what gave me burnout and there are still about 50+ zombies and the same number of survivors to go... not counting the mountain of plastic coming in Season 3!

We're both off next week and have tried to put aside half the time for hobby things, away from decorating, computers or tv... so hopefully there will be some more updates!

I always find having several varied things on the go helps deal with that.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It doesn't help that when visitors come round I have to clear everything away at the moment.

There are a couple of other projects that are floating around, but it's finding the oomph to actually start any of them that takes effort. The Horus Heresy weekender photos are sort of reigniting interest in my Guard with the Auxilia models. Probably not enough to actually go and buy the new rules or codex though

Nice work on the survivors and their evil twins.

Really liking the toxic horde, the use of green works really well against their monochromatic look

The recent Mantic kickstarter has reignited some plans for my Warhammer Quest project in the hopes that it will also be of use once Dungeon Saga turns up next year.

As an experiment I tried some of the old doorways

These were undercoated in white and had various shades of grey, brown and green washed over it. It looks great, but it took a little bit longer to do than I would have liked, so next time I'll try something different.

I've also got an experiment off with a laser cutter that I'm looking forward to seeing. Fingers crossed that it looks ok when it comes back. There have been a few hiccups with the files supplied, but I think I've got those fixed now

I was sorting out some boxes that I'd not looked in since the move last Christmas and came across the bits for the Tin Man. I'd not gone any further with this as I needed some Scourges for him to be fighting and when Arakasi had ordered them for me, they never turned up. Things got forgotten... it seems the last time I did anything with him was early last year! Shame on me... shame! I thought it was about time to try and progress a bit further with him, so ventured down to our local GW. I was all steeled for a busy shop for the Space hulk release and to be followed around the shop by the staff and talked at. Seems that I need not have bothered... the shop was nearly empty and the staff ignored me. Score!

I managed to get some initial bits of work done on the Tin Man while Dr Who was on tonight. Hopefully I can get some more done tomorrow between coats of paint on the kitchen.

You can see the main pose coming together and the struggling Scourge being crushed. I've still got some bits to do on this hand to make him look a bit more like a flying monkey. I'm thinking a tail and a more simian head are called for here, though I'm not sure a monkey head would be good...

I am also going to mount a scourge on his back attacking the autocannon, but I'm not quite sure where to put him yet. Which one do you guys think looks better?

I *think* my preference is for the one scrabbling on the back of the power pack, rather than balancing on the guns themselves... but both are tempting. I also still need to decide... feathered wings or bat wings? If I go bat wings I can only have these two attacking. If I go for feathered, there can be a third mobbing the dread. He's not going to be gamed with, so delicacy doesn't really matter.

Thanks! The 40k inspiration is currently limited as I wasn't overly impressed with the new book... Though the new HH guard that have been previewed are making me want to buy some anyway.

Current inspiration is more Warhammer related thanks to a combination of dungeon saga and the first End Times book. This thing is glorious on the iPad... I can only imagine how nice it looks in book format. Expect some more Warhammer quest bits soon

Great to see this come back out of the wood-work

Monkey #1 on the back looks the better of the two to me, and although my personal preference is bat wings I think feathered fits in better with the Oz theme.

I agree an actual monkey head might be too much, but you want something with at least a simian feel to it...not sure why exactly, but I'm thinking of a gas mask type affair with dual canisters, maybe based off one of the scourge heads?

I've been trying to work out some way of making a monkey-like head and then the idea struck. What about the Crooked Dice monkey heads?

I can't decide if that's going to look *really* odd though... especially as I've added tails to them and chimps/gorillas don't have tails...

So I managed to get a bit more done yesterday afternoon. Other than the heads, the Tin Man is now pretty much done, other than finishing the base and creating the axe for his right hand. I did create the haft for one yesterday... but I obviously wasn't paying attention as it's far too small when put in his hand and just looks pathetic... almost like someone carrying a small twig. Not what I wanted at all!

The road cobbles on the base are hanging over the edge so that I can blend his base into a larger scenic display at some point in the future. Somehow I doubt it will go onto an Armies on Parade board as was originally planned, but you never know. With Unbound and allies now a *thing*, I guess anything goes as far as an Armies on Parade board nowadays.

I'm looking forward to starting the painting... first I need to work out how to paint tarnished steel though. I want him to have been in service of the inquisition so long that no-one knows which chapter he is from and he refuses to talk about it. His paint has worn so thin that he is mostly bare, dull metal with an aged patina.

I don't want him rusty though as a dedicated ancient is hardly going to let that happen. Paint on the other hand... that's not so much of an issue

No real progress to report on the Tin Man. The axe handle has gone through a few attempts... none of which have been particularly good. There is another lump of greenstuff currently curing in roughly the right shape at the moment. It will need lots of trimming and smoothing off, but so far it's looking a little bit more acceptable. *fingers crossed*

On a different note, I've been reading the first Warhammer : End Times book on the train to work and, curse them, GW have actually released something inspiring and enjoyable! It is an expensive book/iBook, but it is tempting me into starting a Warhammer army. this is an impressive feat as I've not had one of those since I had a GW staff discount 20 years ago, when I had 4 small ones. I don't even know anyone else that plays, which makes it an even dafter idea!

Still. With the work I've been doing on my other sekrit project I will need some denizens for the heroes to kill and undead are always a good starting point.

So what is this sekrit project? I wasn't going to talk about this just yet, but I really want some feedback from you lot to know if this is something other people would actually be interested in, or if it's just me.

Remember the old Warhammer Quest project that I started, but never actually got too far with? I wasn't overly keep with the look/weight of the plaster tiles one I'd put together a couple of corridors. I'd looked at all the very modular dungeon kickstarters over the last couple of years too and they felt a little...too modular for what I wanted. You couldn't really generate random dungeons in the same way that you could with Warhammer Quest.

So... a bit of careful maths, lots of graph paper and a very helpful company with a laser cutter and I've got back a test set of dungeon tiles. A little bit more detailing on them and they will be going up for sale

This is one sheet's worth of dungeon tiles all together. They will come with the surrounding sprue as well to keep them together in the post and provide some structure. One of the things I need to do is provide better definition between tile design and the 25mm squares so some can have brickwork or cobbles drawn out. There is only so much stone quality you can get to a flat piece of wood, so I want to leave this up to the painter.

When you break it apart, it can make a small dungeon all on it's own. This one is looking to be about £7 (ish), which let's face it... is pretty bargainous for a mini dungeon.

You can also use these tiles to create 3d rooms if you want something different

The overall plan is to create a few different starter sets (about 5-6 sheets each) that give you a good selection of corridors and rooms that may be sort of reminiscent of some well known games you grew up with. For example this example is one of three layouts that can build the Heroquest board, with some spare bits floating around. I'm also in the process of creating a set of playing card designs that will cover all of the pieces offered in each starter set. If I can get the price right, each sprue of tiles will come complete with the matching cards so you know you've got the matching pieces to randomly make your new dungeon.

Given the nature of things, it's easy to create new sets of tiles for special rooms, new locations, mini adventures of my own design and what not. Each would also come with matching playing cards so you can always use the rooms randomly, or in predefined layouts.

So. Plan? Rubbish? Needs better detail on the tiles? Give up and go home? WANT!
