Spoiler:

The nid side was very banged up. A number of guys broken off at the ankles, wrists snapped, etc. The warriors in particular took a hit. The marine half was in much better shape, but metal is good like that.

That's some very old stuff there. Original Grey Knights, 1st Edition Librarian, some original Hunter Slayers (even I don't have any of those), Old Skool Hybrids and some Genestealer Familiars, an original Mega-Armoured Nob, and 3 original Biovores (very jealous - I've not liked a single Biovore kit since that one, and I never got any...).

Thanks. Of my older works, I think my Chaplains have held up the best. Of course, the cool minis help. I was about to say “Has GW ever made a bad chaplain sculpt? Or are they all awesome?” But then my memory caught up with me and I remembered the original Lemartes.

Hey, it’s Friday!

I had the camera out this morning taking pictures of squads I actually had based for my showcase thread, and realized that I’ve done a RT, 2nd, and 3rd ed one. As all of those are old enough to qualify here: A progression of ML/F tactical squads.

TGIF and enjoy your weekends.

I still find something very endearing about those 2nd Ed Marineplastics.

As for Chaplains. The faceplate Chaplain is still my favourite and, purely in my own opinion, yet to be beaten.

Was doing some reorganisation and came across these bits n bobs.

Those tree kits were pretty good darn value. Hedges and two different tree types in them.

Some bits from old Nids and Hive Guard (STILL dormant)

Some pics from the side of the old AoBR box set. Very evocative!

IIRC the Realm of Chaos was the 5th edition chaos codex. I think it came out halfway through the edition, and might have been the second one from that era. I’m a little fuzzy here. I recall playing with the previous codex, but I might just be mis-remembering things. A number of my friends also played chaos, and did so longer then I did (I started with undead) so I might just be thinking about their armies. Could of swore I had the book somewhere though.

In addition to the codex, it had cards for chaos rewards, and chits to mark buffs to units/stats. I don’t recall if it included the magic cards for chaos, or if they were in the magic box.

Edit: Just hit the shelf for some research. In my 1999 GW catalog, It shows the Realm of Chaos box. While the army was broken up into 3 factions (demons, warriors, and beastmen) the rules for all three were in the book. The box did include the magic cards, also some templates. Over at SoL, they picture the old army book in their ’97 catalog, and I don’t see one in the ’98. As I have WDs from this era, I could probably do some more research if needed to narrow things down.

Edit 2: WD 217 (US numbering) Feb ’98 showcases its release. Also, introduces necrons. And tangentially, is the 2nd WD on my shelf.

Yep it was the Chaos Army Book, I bought it myself when it was new! The army wasn't exactly broken into factions, it had a pretty non-standard army building method where you built an army by creating warbands, where each warbands consisted of a Champion and his retinue of the appropriate type (Demon, Warriors, Beastmen). You mixed and matched these subject to some restrictions IIRC, not at home so can't check the book. Tuomas Pirinen wrote it.

Yup. Flavorful, if irritating way to put together an army.

Take a HQ
Take the same number (or more) of points in retinue of the same flavor.
Repeat until at the points limit of your game.

Made it irritating to just splash in a unit, or have multiple lackey characters. Workable, but I didn’t care much for it.

I know it’s not quite Friday, but I was called out in another thread and thought this would be a good spot to respond.

Viktor von Domm is working on some custom Tau Piranhas, and the talk drifted naturally to the old Grav Attack Tanks aka deodorant tanks from the days of yore. I mentioned that I had a few kicking around somewhere, and was requested to post them by Kid_Kyoto. You know you are a geek when you choose the brand of deodorant due to the shape of it. On the bright side, it was a way to encourage decent hygiene. Maybe GW should do more things like this to help prevent the GUO in the FLGS...

Anyway, on with the tanks. Obviously a far cry from the ones featured in WD, but my poor teenaged attempts. And before you laugh, remember these guys are probably older then you are, and were rattling around loose in an old box for a couple of decades at least.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

I went digging through the Loft of Wonders to find my old 2nd Ed terrain.

Since that photo, I've managed to pick up a card Bastion as well.

I might have to do a Flashback Friday inspired Armies on Parade.
