Didn't get much painting done today. Had to deal with house stuff and kids' studies. But screw it, I'm on vacation and I'm a big boy, I'll do whatever the hell I want!

So I primed all the remaining Fighting Fungi pieces, except for the grasshopper which I can't seem to find.

While they were drying, I sucked it up and finished the male Prospector for Shadows of Brimstone while I waited.

I did paint both of his eyes, quite decently I might add, it just doesn't show in the photo. Neither does the patch on his pants. He's got a lot of charm to him. Much better detail than the plastic heroes, that's for sure, but with him being resin, that makes sense.

This monster of a... monster is from the Fighting Fungi range. I believe it's a "Spore Monster." They're supposed to be walking spore colonies that can grow more monsters as the battle progresses, if I remember correctly. Anyways, it's big, and it's a solid chunk of metal. He's not done, but he's started at least!

I also started seriously trying to work on my next Hitech Miniatures figure, Samael. I saw Battle Brush Studios' paint scheme and really liked it, and took their idea as a basis for mine. Obviously mine is nowhere near as good, or close to being finished, but it's a start. I think he reminds me of War from the Darksiders games, what with his billowy red hood, giant weapons, and oversized gauntlet.

You can see even with his base he's quite large, and when he gets his wings attached he'l be even bigger!

While he was drying and the kids were studying, I finally got this kit out and put it together.

This is one of Plastcrafts' precolored/ textured Malifaux buildings. A train stop I believe. I got it at the last Brookhurst bring & buy. I'm quite impressed with how sturdy and stable it is!

Had to give it a stress test to see just how much weight it could hold...

You can't even see the metal trollkin longriders behind the ogre blaster on the other side of the roof...

Very sturdy kit. Very impressed. Plus I got it for a good price, so I'm even more happy with it. Will certainly be on the lookout for more of these!

I'm really enjoying all the Fighting Fungi. They look like they are a lot of fun to paint.

That Plastcraft building is nifty. I have a couple of their Kensei buildings, but that train station is much, much nicer.

I'm tempted to get some of the Kensei stuff myself now.

That isn't the station either- this is just a train stop. The station is WAY BIGGER. Also pricier. All in good time though...

The Fungi have been a lot of... fun. They paint up really easily too unless you want to go way overboard on the detailing.

My biggest regret with that kickstarter is opting for a lot of the bigger stuff, whereas now that I have them all, I would have preferred getting less of the big stuff and more multiples of the smaller guys.

Hopefully Ganesha's next campaign in August will bring us more weird stuff, like they're Go Nagai inspired "Possessed" chaos dwarfs and their pets.

My table is overgrown with fungi.

The worm rider! I really wish I had gotten more of these cavalry types! He's awesome!

Here is his equally awesome friend, the Pillbug Rider! Pillbug rider is on a 40mm base by the way.

FUN FACT- the riders are all interchangeable between all the various mounts. Sadly my grasshopper mount is MIA.

One of my favorites, the puffball spore monster. Heck ,he doesn't need to be a fungi monster even- he looks like some sneaky little alien xeno mastermind!

In fact, they kind of are little masterminds, as they get launched into battle by their manservant, the mushrooman catapult-

The fungal catapult isn't finished yet, but he's getting there. He's big (on a 40mm base) and is a solid casting of metal.

Those puffball monsters can release spores, letting loose a shower of lesser sporelings!

There's a few more sporelings tucked away in my cabinets. All the little guys/ zombies/ spores/ sporelings are on square bases to properly rank up for Kings of War.

Figure they'd go good in a forces of nature army.

Tomorrow- even more mushrooms! We're getting there, slowly but surely!

The mushroom hunt continues on! A lot are done but still need basing of some sort. Probably just grass. Enough talk now!

First up are the giant mushroom Matanagar!

These things seem like they are obviously based on the old Toho Matango movie monster. They're actually slight variations of each other's colors.

Next up is the Flying Eye Fungus!

I need to go back around the eye with some black, but it's good enough for the moment. It's totally a mushroom beholder though. With wings. And mushrooms.

Another of the giant fungal monsters, this one painted up in angry avocado colors!

These 3 ladies are probably the least farthest along. One is a kickstarter exclusive, the other are dryads. The guys in the back are spore monster heavy infantry.

Here is the Vampire Mushroom! Why is he a vampire? What does he need for nourishment? I have no idea, but I love his ridiculous pose of jumping in the air trying to grab at his prey.

The mushroom king! Behold his majesty! He's quite big! He actually slice my thumb open when I first received him, as he was one big solid piece of metal with some really gnarly flash on him.

Rounding out my Mushroom pledge are these swamp spore monsters. That giant Cthulhu like monster in the back was one of the few multi piece figures in the line. He's quite heavy and clocks in at about 55mm tall. His face is also quite phallic. Obviously none of these guys are done. The two in the back are Rotting Heart Mushroom Masters. The Rotting Hearts were the undead faction in the Fighting Fungi rules and lore.

I'd have to double check what all of them do.

In non- mushroom news, I wrapped up Hitech's Samael figure.

He's called an "Archfather" in their line, which all seem to line up with the actual 40k Primarchs. No idea who it's supposed to be though. My first thought was Ahriman. He seems like a wizard type (even though also reminds me of War from Darksiders), but I really don't know who he's supposed to represent.

Here he is with another "Archfather" friend. This one is Vezuvion, who looks suspiciously like a certain Salamander's primarch...

Ain't much to look at yet, just being primed and all. I need a better green as I want something brighter, but all I have tends to run quite dark, and I'm too lazy to mix.

Once this is all wrapped I can finally get that Imperial Knight dealt with!

I've been having fun with the fungi. Down to the last few at this point, but I need a break from them.

So I painted the color red.

Lots of red.

Red basecoats for everything!

More red ogres! This time with red Dragon Ogres! I don't care if they're Chaos related or not, red ogres are red, no matter what.

At least they'll also fit in with all my Khorne Bloodbound guys with the overwhelming red choices.

Funny thing is that I got the bases MONTHS after the ogres, but finished the bases first. I got the ogres themselves back at the Brookhurst bring n' buy for a whopping 15, new in box. Nice!

Problem was I wanted to get them on Age of Sigmar bases and GW hadn't released the new bases to stores yet, and online resellers were expensive, so I went with an MDF manufacturer. They came out to be just about the same size as the GW bases too.

Here's a chaos lord's manticore that I got dirt cheap and has a variety of reds on him as well!

His head isn't glued yet so I could try to paint between his paws there. I think I'll do the wing membranes in black, and then darken up his fur. Maybe put spots. Not sure what to do with that yet.

This is not red. The carnifex and ravaner are, but they're in the background, and so's the warrior nids behind them.

Why is the white lion blue? I don't know. I really don't. Blue seemed appropriate. I know I've seen a design like that somewhere. Probably from Japan. Digimon maybe? Or the Megami Tensei games?

I'll probably lighten up the skin significantly, and then brighten the man up a bit with some light blue or blue-grey, and drybrush some white on that? Not sure...

I do know that I'm getting closer and closer to working on my Imperial Knight, and after that it'll be time for Archaon the Everchosen...

That is a veritable smorgasbord of red, I really like it as a colour choice on the Manticore...have been meaning to pick that mini up myself. I think it works on the Ogres as well, certainly makes them look suitably mean and angry.

And Archaon soon? Yes please! Have you constructed him yet? And if so, how was he to put together?

I enjoyed building Archaon. He's in manageable pieces at the moment, waiting for his chance to get painted. He's going to be quite a big kit when all is said and done. I'm debating about finding some extra materials to do his base with, as it is massive in and of itself, and I would prefer it to not be super empty.

When he gets painted though is anyone's guess. I still have to take care of that Imperial Knight! Sadly it didn't get primed as my daughter decided to go off the deep end this weekend and have a crazy meltdown. Not fun. What little hobby time I had was spent getting poked and stabbed by various Tyranid kits I was building.

I tried painting them by brush, but then I just said screw it, and ordered some red primer (along with a few more of those plast craft colored buildings). The nids are all big ones and take up too much space, so they've all been shelved til the primer gets here.

Forgive the background mess- the kids were playing with me and I wasn't allowed to clean up prior to finishing "the story" my daughter was telling with the figures there. In the meantime, mushrooms continue to get finished before I go back to work!

These two handsome chaps are "Rotting Heart Mushroom Masters" from Ganesha Game's Fighting Fungi line. They're quiet big compared to a regular shroom warrior, who is probably about the size of an average 28mm figure. They're both rotting aparrt and have worms coming out of their mouths! Fun!

This gentleman is a Skullgrinder. How does he grind skulls with a big smoking brick attached to a chain? You got me. He's been sitting on my table since he came out a few months ago, so I'm glad he's finished.

He does not photograph well due to his contorting position. Very dynamic figure in person. Irritating that like all the other Khorne character clampacks he is now offered in a bundle with other figures I already bought (Gorechosen). At the very least the one or two I don't have should be purchasable on the cheap once people start parting those suckers out.

Progress continues on Vulca... I mean Vezuvion. Screw the haters, I really like a lot of the Hitech figures. It is odd how some parts on them are overly detailed and others seem completely skipped. His hammer is very plain, especially compared to the other two guys' weapons I've done. He certainly is a big fella though.

One of these days I'm going to get me the GW finecast on with the spear and burning halo thing. I like that figure!

While Vulkan waits to get his paint sealed along with Samael, I started working on a few more of the hitech guys I have.

I don't remember his official name, but he totally looks like an inquisitor. Although with that paint scheme I guess he could be a Blood Angel or something too.

He's almost done, need to fix that skull on his base and add some details to all the shields hanging off him.

Then I started up on this not- Space Wolf guy.

He's got a ways to go still, but you get the idea. Now with the grey I chose it looks a bit darker than typical SW colors, but it also reminds me of the old Inquisitor model from way back when.

I loved that old Inquisitor figure.

Speaking of GW stuff, I actually started to seriously work on my Drycha! I bought it the day it came out, built it the same day, and it's sat around the house ever since. Well no more of that!

It's a decent start to it. The base is a little rough because I glued something else to it, and realized after the fact that it didn't belong there, so I had to scrape it off.

Last up is a Carnifex I salvaged from the consignment case a few weeks back.

It's a bit sloppy so far, and not done, but it's getting to a point I'm happy with. It will go good with my other big bug, whichever hive fleet they belong too...

*sniff*... Goodbye summer!

I said farewell to my freedom last night by finishing up another Hitech figure.

As usual with these guys he's got a million little things hanging off his armor which ends up making him look super busy. I don't think he looks as bad in person.

Also did one of the figures from the Bones 2 Kickstarter, the Pathfinder Iconic witch as my daughter said I haven't painted many girls lately.

Not sure why her face looks so fuzzy- it's quite sharp, especially when considering just how soft and mushy the details were on her face. Originaly she had white hair like the illustrations, but she looked like an old lady which neither mysefl nor daughter cared for- hence the blue anime hair.

Next up in a long standing tradition of figures who won't photograph well due to their pose is this Avatars of War gladiator.

The guy is all over the base (which is actually a 40mm circle, as he couldn't even fit on the included 25mm square one) and quite elaborately decked out. Too bad the lighting in my office in the middle of the night isn't the greatest, as it makes everything look the same color. I really enjoyed him. I wanted him as soon as I saw it on Avatar's website, which was probably around the time I was binge watching the Spartacus TV show.

Now alas, I must return to the working world for another ten months. Hopefully I can keep the painting up if the students don't drive me insane!

Man did I ever get sick of painting various shades of greens and browns for mushroom tones.

So instead this week with school starting I focused on nothing but flesh really.

And what has more flesh than Kingdom Death?

The impossible to photogrpah due to her crazy angle, the Twilight Witch! I'm also not 100% sure I got her lanterns all glued on correctly. At least they all fit somewhere on the model, and they're all painted.

Forgive the glossy finish and splotchy skin tones. Both will be getting smoothed over before she joins her other completed KD buddies on the shelf.

Next up, the Primal Huntress. She was a fun one to paint. Plus she was a fairly straightforward build.

Next is the pinup Silk Assassin. She was the most boring one of the lot I though. She's at least a decent enough figure to hit the table at some point at least.

I also got started on the Guild crew from the Malifaux starter.

They are in a very early development stage. Their bases are farther along than they are probably!

Also got Wild Bill Hickok from Wild West Exodus just about done.

Bill here's got a little old in the tooth and ended up with white hair. Damn historical accuracy! The ink wash also left him super glossy, so we'll have to remedy that.

Bill also brought along a friend, a female Outlaw hero from Shadows of Brimstone.

Despite the base size, the two are actually of a pretty similar height. Actually, so are the Malifaux figures. They'll be lovely in whatever homebrew weird west/ 19th century mixup we get around to playing...

I gotta stop posting stuff and taking photos in the middle of the night. Office is too danged dark!

First something totally random- a Twilight Knight!

Photo pisses me off how sloppy the colors look blended together, how rough the paint looks... ugh. She doesn't look that bad in person, I think, and my daughter likes her so that's a good enough vote for me!

Will get her deglossed and touched up while they all get stuck at Japanese school next Saturday!

Speaking of Kingdom Death, I think I've attempted to photograph the first painted Warrior of the Sun pinup.

Now granted, she's now dressed like Strider Hiryu instead of wearing practically nothing, but I've got the new plastic version to cheesecake- up at a later time and date.
Really tough to get a good photograph of her face. It's there! I painted her eyes even! Correctly!

Besides these two, I finished up two figures who have sat unfinished for a very long time.

This guy is finally done! His backside has gone unpainted since I first started him (right around the time as all my other Confrontation dwarfs). I couldn't stand his falling down pants so I never painted his rear. Well, I finally did it! Painted his boxes and can now call it a day on him. Will get his base grassed along with the dozen or so other figures waiting to get their bases finished.

Here's a Hell Dorado something or other Westerner (a sergeant perhaps?) who I got started on right away, repeatedly broke the gun arm of, and finally just said it and finish him up. He looks alright now. Makes me wonder if I should bother doing all his firearm equipped buddies at some point?

There's also a large pile of Bones stuff I painted, but the camera zoomed in too close and they look hideous. Will reshoot them in the light of day...

I like the James model as well. I swear I've seen a similarly posed photo/mini/painting somewhere else. Not sure where though.

Just about wrapped up with most of the Kingdom Death stuff I've head in front of me.

Got the intimacy couple just about finished.

Can't resist giving them all anime hair.

Got my Twilight Knight wrapped up as well.

Slopped my way through a handful of stuff from my Box o' Bones 2 as well. No closeups as I really just got the paint on as basic as I could.

From a distance flute girl looks like she has giant eyes. That's not the case! Barbarian on the end looked like such a pinhead prior to painting, but I'm happy with how he turned out in the end.

My Hitech Miniatures Librarian type guy in quasi- Terminator armor is almost finished as well.

Need to finish up his shields all over his body, and figure out what to do with his banner. Maybe just leave it plain? Dunno.

Other than that stuff I've been working on this past week, I spent most of Labor Day gluing stuff on Ogres.

It started pretty simple. Just a few extra shields on some recently acquired Ironguts, a few extra knives, stuff like that.

Then I started digging a bit deeper into my bits boxes, and started getting more funky...

Then I started dabbling with Tyranid armor...

And then it seems one acquired a bunch of Tau scraps...

And now it seems my Ogres have started to overtake my desk space. Got that Stonehorn I've had laying around built and started doing the base coats on its fur while I was busy gluing.

Sad thing is there's even more tucked away that need to get finished, so I think this is what I need to do for September!

I've been trying to keep pace with Barzam's nonstop painting speed, but it's quite difficult with work and little ones constantly interfering and wanting attention!

For starters, I keep pulling stuff out of the Bones 2 box of neverending plastic in the hopes of actually finishing some of it before the 3rd one arrives.

So here's a random elf and barbarian guy that both came out super glossy and are in dire need of a dull coat.

I also started painting a few of the Bugbears that were included in the box. In the middle is one of the first painted figures I ever did. I figured I would try to match the guys somewhat to him.

Most of my time has been spent getting those Ogres to a decent level of completion. I ran out of my Vallejo texture stuff I used for all their bases previously, and naturally I can't find the bottle I like online. I ended up just using sand and junk, and now it's just a matter of painting all that stuff.

Here's a few of the more completed ones.

What's funny is the ink doesn't gloss up on these guys. Maybe cause I go on so thick? Love having good and properly filthy ogres.

Here's my javelineer for Frostgrave, who needs a bit more work than the others.

As well as some of the funkier assorted guys.

Sadly due to peer pressure the Tau ogre has lost his angry tau launcher.

Funny thing- every one of these guys was bought second hand, most with some serious funk in how they were built/ primed/ glued together going on. Some had huge gaps between pieces, and whatever glue the owner used did some seroius warping when the parts were bonded. The Morghast guy's base was completely destroyed trying to part him from it, as he originally wasn't wearing any shoes either. I just didn't bother with the guy with two hammers after that.

A lot of them had huge gaps where the hands and arms met. That's why there's a lot of shields and bits hiding those spots- didn't want to bother with green stuff for gravelly primed models.

All in all I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. Happy enough that I won an auction for an Ogre army from Mantic to go with these guys for nearly half off! So It looks like I'll be painting Ogres for a bit longer...

A question though- I have a box of stinky Ironguts still on sprues (due to the previous owner being a hardcore smoker it seems) that I am undecided on how I want to proceed with. Should I go hardcore converting on them? Slicing limbs to change positions, sanding down bits and greenstuffing the leftovers? I had the idea of giving two of them a giant weapon in each hand and making them something of an independent unit champion for Kings of War. Should I?

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

I say let the ruinous powers of The Warp have their way with them. Cut 'em up!
