Putting this message out here for a good friend of mine who's not the most internet savvy:

Has anyone else had issues get defiance games to ship their orders? My buddy pre-ordered a few boxes of the new German infantry, and had his credit card already billed for it. He still hasn't received a invoice, shipping notice, or really anything besides the credit card charge. Two e-mails have been sent out, but there's been no response besides the "we care" BS form letter. Any suggestions on a way to actually get in real contact with these guys, or barring that a good way to get his money refunded?

Hi hands - we usually reply to any emails sent to our Contact Us page within a day or so. The replies might be going into his spam folder? He can always post in our forum or on our Facebook page - or call the telephone # on our Contact Us page and on the order sheet.

Don't worry - we won't bite! ;-)

German orders are all shipping steadily out - we expect to have all of them off by the end of this coming week and then distributors and retailers will be getting theirs right after that.

Thanks!
Tony

Lots of production issues with defiance and alot of knowingly false info given out buy them. Whole thread about it here http://www.frothersunite.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=36589&start=3250 warning bad language.

We did have production issues as we got going - but since setting up the new plastic "factory" in Boston a couple months ago and getting it fully up and running - we've caught up and are now moving along nicely with everything.

We've been keeping people up to date on progress with regular posts. One of the latest is here:

More importantly... are we going to see other products?

Well they seem to say they've started shipping them

but their forums are full of complaints that Germans have not arrived, and nobody has posted they've got anything

And their other lines still seem to have problems too:

The Bugs, suposedly stalled with mould issues, production meant to be restarting soon

The Marines being adapted for a resin of some sort instead of polystyrene

so sadly it just seems they're slow and unresponsive

the forums here

and the last post/comm from a staff mamber seems to have been on facebook

Seems a common occurrence, to post updates on FB and not on your own website/forum.

It's a fairly silly mistake to be making and shows, at best, a lack of care and attention to those customers/forum users who are supporting the company.

Still, people seem to like giving these companies the benefit of the doubt.

Still, there was a period of over 2 weeks where they didn't even post on Facebook. Regardless of how busy they are "packing" or what not, it doesn't take that long to post an update on Facebook, forum, what have you.

And that makes it worse.

The gaming community really are a good natured bunch to keep sticking it out with issues like this. I wouldn't let anyone sit on my money.

Honestly, it looks to be vaporware. The buddy who I was helping out here was in exactly the same situation. (Order #1297) After a couple of e-mails and such, he did a credit card dispute at my suggestion-- if only to make sure he didn't get screwed out of $100 (and also kill his interest in starting up 40K with the rest of us) The original post in this thread from the Defiance Games rep was incredibly unhelpful. The phone number talked about on the Contact Us page and order page just aren't there. His order still hasn't been cancelled on the Defiance end of things (just looked it up and it has a Fullfillment Status of New, whatever that means)

These guys might not be scamming jerks, but they are giving every outward impression of being so. After the debacle that was the Maelstrom Games implosion, I can't see most gamers being willing to put up with behavior like this. We're talking about being billed for an item in excess of a month before shipment, and then what appears to be vaporware shipping and intentional confusing shipping statuses. This would not be acceptable in other industries, so I'm rather confused why anyone would run a business like this in a small community like mini gaming.

To be fair, I preordered the Bugs and they arrived way late, but they did arrive. And they threw in some freebies (a baggie of the Panzergrenadiers)

"...and special thanks to Judgedoug!" - Alessio Cavatore "Now you've gone too far Doug! ... Too far... " - Rick Priestley "I've decided that I'd rather not have you as a member of TMP." - Editor, The Miniatures Page "I'd rather put my testicles through a mangle than spend any time gaming with you." - Richard, TooFatLardies "We need a Doug Craig in every store." - Warlord Games "Thank you for being here, Judge Doug!" - Adam Troke

Maybe, but the "we're new at this, give us the time to get going" routine has worn a mite thin.

Credit card dispute would be the best option at this stage.

I had my doubts when I saw that a new set was Swamp Worms... instead of consolidating their pre-orders. I mean really, they are going to have us wait until 2013 for any new set? I would have put the Worms in that "futures" batch then. They're freaking colons with teeth, after all.
