So I just got the new codex, and I already have an Ork and CSM army, so I figured I should try out an ally army with the two, just for fun.
I am thinking with CSM and Orks, the Orks are better off being the main force. This is because CSM have little use of Ork screening troops, since they are melee monsters themselves, and Ork fire support is pretty bleh. What Orks DO have, is probably the best basic troop in the game, Shoota Boys.
So I was thinking of a green tide list, with CSM fire support. I am trying to avoid vehicles and flyers, so I can ignore high AP weapons(and also I have no flyer models). My idea was something along the lines of :
HQ
KFF Big Mek with PK
Troops
30 Shootas with 3 Big Shootas and PK Nob with Bosspole
30 Shootas with 3 Big Shootas and PK Nob with Bosspole
30 Sluggas and Nob with Bosspole
Ally
HQ
Sorcerer with mark of Tzeenech, Master Level 2
Troops
7 Thousand Sons
Elite
6 Chosen with 5 Plasma Guns, in a Rhino
Heavy
3 Obliterators with Mark of Nurgle.
The idea was that chaos gives some much needed ranged anti tank and psyker support to the Orks. The thousand sons and sorcerer can sit on the home objective, happily slinging spells and taking out devastators from a distance. The obliterators and chosen on the other hand help with tanks and terminators, respectively. Ofcourse, 5 plasma guns in a rhino can cheerfuly murder most vehicles too.
My worry with this however is that due to the fact that Orks are not battle brothers with CSMs, many of the psycic powers I might end up with are useless. Perhaps a better option would be some normal marines with meltas and a lord with Burning Brand? The problem there is I dont really need the extra melee, it seems like a waste.
Perhaps a slaneeshi lord with Burning Brand and some noise marines? They would certainly fithfill my objective camping AP3 shooting needs, and that blastmaster can even kill vehicles. It seems a bit of a waste to have an I5 lord just sitting around shooting though.
Also, another idea is to drop those obliterators for 5-6 havoks with Lascannons. They are slightly cheaper with more firepower, but I fear that since the entire enemy army is propably gonna be shooting at them first turn, they dont have the survivability to do much, unlike obliterators, that can just hide out of LoS first turn, or just take it.
