Wondering Why the Emperor Left

Moved this over from General Discussion after realizing my error. Thank goodness, I don't want to cross the mods.

As you know, some chapters' Chapter Masters are not listed in the lore. As such, I was wondering:

I would like to use the Codex: Blood Angels for the successor chapter Knights of Blood. However, I wanted to utilize a Chapter Master as my HQ. The Knights of Blood have no mention of a chapter master, which means I could make my own.

However, would this mean that I would have to use the standard Space Marine codex instead of the Blood Angels codex?

To reiterate I want to use the Blood Angels codex for certain vehicles and benefits, such as Sanguinary Guard, Baal Predator, Furioso, etc.

But, I also want a Chapter Master for my successor Chapter as I play by fluff and enjoyment too.. I was wondering that if I use the Blood Angels codex, I wouldn't /rules/ wise be allowed to field a Chapter Master, and instead have to use a Captain for my HQ.

Make sense?

Okay, responding to the posts on the other.

Chapter masters have orbital bombardment, something I prefer. Now the issue is, the BA codex only lists a single chapter master, Gabriel Seth for the successors, who doesn't have that. Which is odd as there are so many successor chapters listed in the codex.

I think I will create a Chapter Master model, but label it as a Counts as Commander Dante. What are your thoughts?

You have to pick one codex (well, you can also add Allies); but if you want to re-name units to fit your fluff, that's normally fine.

Yeah, just responded to that before you ninja'd it, sorry, rather tired so I may be a bit dull.

As long as you're using an HQ unit from Codex: Blood Angels you should be fine. You can't swap in one from Codex: Space Marines, but if you want to use Dante's exact rules for your Chapter Master, that's fine.

As long as you only use units from the Blood Angels Codex for your primary detachment you should not have any issues. (Just make sure your opponent knows what unit entry and which codex each unit belongs to).

The only way to get a Chapter Master is to take a Codex Space Marine allied detachment with your Blood Angels primary detachment.

Just because you use the Dante stat line doesn't mean you have to call him Dante... For instance, I have a Flesh Tearers battle company and am lucky to have Seth. Even though my army is paired with blood angels (I bought well painted minis from a buddy and don't want to desecrate his paint job so I am running them as a combined BA FT force.) I really don't want to use the 1100+ year old chapter master of the BA. I made a custom mini w/ Sang guard bits and painted him gold. The fluff for him will be a brother captain of the veterans. He will use dante's stats and rules but it isn't Dante. I am "forging the narrative" as GW puts it. I'm taking a fluff stand like you.. Another example, my Astorath model is going to be the high chaplain for FT, Mephiston will be the head librarian. Both will use the codex rules for their counter parts but in the FT army, they aren't those specific characters...

Why not use Gabriel Seth as Knights of Blood CM?

We don't have a generic "chapter master" to choose from but we do have access to 6 special characters (7 if you count the two Tycho's).

To represent a chapter master, lets toss out Meph, as he's clearly a librarian (unless your spin off chapter is led by a psyker).

The Sanguinor is not an IC and can't join units. Makes him hard to shoe horn into the role.

That leaves Tycho, Seth, Astorath, and Dante.
Pick one of those guys who's rules/equipment you like, and scratch build a leader.
Call him chapter master.

@ The Noob bomb Thank you for the comment, I'll have to check Seth out, and try to convert him.

@ HawaiiMatt: Thanks for the comment, no, I can't use a psyker. This isn't a spin off chapter, the Knights of Blood are cannon but, their lore has no mention of a Chapter Master. I've been creating lore and compounding it for weeks, as that is one of the few strongsuits I have. I am a better writer than gamer, or painter, even though I own a Concept Art and Literature studio.

As I said above, I am going to look at Gabriel Seth, as his stats may compliment Scindo Reul's ornate, two-handed Chainglaive.

@Scipio: Better safe than sorry! I've been apart of quite a few snarky 40k communities.

Holy crud, Gabriel Seth... yes. I will be making Viscus Stau as a "Counts as" Gabriel Seth.

Thanks guys, this thread was highly helpful.

The shoulder pad is going to be the only iconography. So pick up a finecast model and start scraping. You should be fine.. Good luck and Emperor speed..

They have gotten better. The past 5 or so orders of finecast have been near flawless... There are kromlek massive chainswords on eBay that are sweet. Worth a look.
