The world of miniature gaming on ebay, like anything else, has a number of bizarre and/or odd entries, from crazy-looking conversions to insane asking prices.

It is fun to have a thread that focuses on such oddities. This is a continuation from a previous dakka thread of the same topic.

However, that previous thread was locked because some of the people posting in it seemed to be forgetting some of the basic tenants of posting on Dakka, primarily that you must always remain polite.

While ebay may have plenty of auctions that feature incredibly crude conversions, blatant forgeries, terrible paint jobs, etc, if you'd like to discuss those things here on Dakka you must do so in a polite fashion, as though the users running and participating in the auctions are reading and responding in this thread (because for all you know, they might be).

So no calling people 'clowns', 'morons', etc, no matter how bizarre the auction may seem. Anyone who ignores this warning will be disciplined exactly as though they were insulting another Dakka user (because they may well be without knowing it).

It's hard to tell whether it's worth anywhere close to that with the gakky pictures they give ...

I would expect a showcase-level titan to be a few thousand bucks, but probably no more than 10.

That is after all, at most painters' rates, over 400 hours of work.

Considering many Golden Demon entries in the Silver / Gold are about 20 hours...

Anyone else care to give an estimate on how much this could be worth realistically ?

TBQH, if it ever gets close to that price, might as well hire the painter for a year and have him do a bit more.

Not sure it'd arrive intact with that picture of how they're going to try to ship it either.

Also I just noticed the EA games logo at the bottom, so the price makes sense now.

After your $20000 titan you may as well have some terrain how about a $120 set of walls?

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. You know, as much as I love to criticize hacks on eBay...I often wonder if I shouldn't give some of this silliness a go. I suspect the old adage of "there's an ass for every seat" might apply. I know plenty of people who spend money in stupid ways - there must be heaps of wargamers who do the same.

I do genuinely wonder how much of this stuff sells...

Nothing about this auction is an oddity. The oddity is with the bidding.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/132043251804?_trksid=p2060353.m1431.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

So, $25 US at the moment I write this. For just a few dollars more, you can get the entire Skaven team. My question/thought is why people do this to themselves? Yes, all you need are those two extra Gutter Runners to make a complete Skavenblight team with the box you're probably already bought but wouldn't it be easier at this point to just get another team box and sell off what you don't want?

Sometimes bidding patterns boggle my mind.

Fairly sure that's the 'IT'S MINE AND YOU CAN'T HAVE IT" mentality when it comes to bidding. I can say for myself that I've done it over... what was it. Oh, it was 2 boxes of old old skinks.

There's a lot of fake bidding on ebay, i.e. people paid to bet on someone else's thing to jack up the prices, then cancel it with their friend so that no transaction takes place and no fees.

No reason to have a friend do it, just make a fake account with a made up address and use your work computer for a different IP address.

You can see that it was intentionally bid up to hit the maximum of what the winner put in, then let go.

Ahh, eBay.

Haven't bought or sold on there for yonks now.

Far too many scalpers and false scarcity going on. FB trading groups is where it's at for me these days. Stuff goes fairly fast, and there's few fees involved (pretty much just PayPal for the seller, and even then it's buying both sides protection).

But it also pays to keep a weather eye out when you're in the wild. I was in Darksphere a couple of weeks before Christmas, buying Prospero. And what I did I see? Two Plasma Obliterators....brand new, in box.

At that time, they weren't for sale as they'd only just come into stock, and hadn't been priced up. So I sent an email expressing interest. Two days later, both were mine for £50 each, which is their correct price.

Kept hold of one, sold the other on At Cost to a deserving gamer.

Just goes to show, you never know what you might find.

I sold a squad of average at best painted ultramarines a while ago just a plastic tactical squad, for ten pounds , 1 week later they were for sale by the buyer as pro-painted tactical squad for 40 quid. ( pro painted such an over used term) . I studied the photos and could still see the errors I had made painting them!

I would legitimately want that. Not just because of the paint job, but the look at my opponents face when I use I would be hilarious! I'd imagine 50% horror and 50% WTF, and the internal struggle to comprehend what his eyes were registering would send a "fluff-only paint job" gamer into meltdown.

Not sure what's so odd about it though...
