Interesting.

They're going at it alone this time, or is it a CMON-Kickstarter too?

Definitely a CMON KS they confirmed that by Facebook on the 9th of February, I'd say the publishing rights covered a number of games and expansions so they have to go with CMON.

Yawn :-/. Would've rather they didn't go the KS route for round 2... definite pass for me (but I didn't pick up the base game, either).

Has anyone felt they've gotten hundreds of dollars worth of gameplay out of these board game KS? People are spending way more on them than they would normal board games...

I've been kinda picky about which KS to back but this one has repaid the cost in terms of play. After sitting on the shelf for awhile, I have a group of people that want to play it at every gathering. YMMV of course.

Im sort of concerned that everything is going the KS route these days.

I don't think of it as board game, more of a RPG lite miniatures heavy zombie combat simulator...

It has given me more entertainment value than 40K has over the past year. The virtue that it can be shared with and enjoyed my non miniatures gaming enthusiasts without them spending hundreds of dollars getting into a hobby, and can learn the rules in minutes, while playing, has been instrumental in working it's way into my gaming rotation.

It's generates excitement, free advertising, and product awareness.
The posting on the KS page fosters a community for a game before it's released
For successful kickstarters it often produces sales in excess of the original expaections.
They produce exclusive items, and Alpha Adopters love shiny exclusive things.
It's generally all win for the company running it, so it's understandable about it becoming prevalent.

Well for CMoN if it aint broke (KS funding) then dont fix it

So unless theres a huge shift, I bet they can count on KS in bringing in the extra dough

And I also think KS itself doesnt mind the cash either

I've gotten my moneys worth out of Zombiecide, its a epic looking game that draws a crowd.

With the current trend in board game prices a game like Zombiecide is definatly not out of the norm.

I'm sure it will... but I'm not going to kickstart an already successful game just for it's expansion. If I decide I want it, I'll wait and get it from the FLGS or Warstore, etc...

I'm also not going to fight for a tiny number of early bird's, many of whom later drop it, but it'll have already accomplished CMON's purpose (spiking the opening day, a bit artificially making demand look really high).

Okay, I admit that those images are pretty impressive! I wasn't planning to be a raincloud the whole time here, just had to get it out of the way as these kinds of campaigns are not my cup of tea.

But the dogs are cool

Whilst the thread title says the Kickstarter is for Toxic City Mall Expansion, it is actually also going to offer a standalone 'Season 2: Prison Outbreak' expansion with prison tiles, new survivors and a new type of zombie (Guillotine Games have stated that it will actually contain more then the original game).

We have also seen previews of a zombie dog mini expansion for those who want to add a new challenge to the original game / season 2.

More details of the two expansions and mini expansion can be found here -

http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/2013/02/08/69596/

Spoiler:

(The Guillotine Games facebook page also has loads of spoilers from both expansions)

Actually, I did drop my Rivet Wars pledge in the very end, for exactly the reason RT gave up there. I didn't see the longer-term value of what ended up being about $350 for a board game. If the figures were more compatible with the rest of my collection, I'd probably have kept it. Which is why I didn't offer to drop my Sedition Wars KS. I'm sure I'll go in for an Early Bird here, and at some point I'll bitch when CMON tries some overpriced add-ons, but overall I think it's likely that I'll stay onboard for this one - especially since I just got the Zombicide base game from a retailer.

To be honest, I wasn't closely paying attention to the details of the spoilers, because I waiting for the official information.

You are correct. I just assumed that the Prison tiles were going to the backs of the mall tiles, but looking at the contents of toxic City mall, you can clearly see that the dogs are not included in the Mall Expansion.

This works out better, and and makes more sense, to have both expansions be seperate boxes. Assuming they kickstart them together as a single project, that's going to be a nice amount of new models and content.

The Original box had 6 Survivors, 29 Zombies, and 9 tiles.
Toxic City Mall has 4 Survivors, 10 Zombivors, 29 Zombies, and 4 tiles.

The Prsion Break supplement won't need to include the additional Zombivores, but can safely assume includes the dogs.
I would hope the composition would be simlar with 4 Surviviors, 4 Zombivors, 29 Zombies

Judging from the previews, the Prison Outbreak expansion will actually come with 6 Survivors and 6 Zombivors (3 female, 3 male as shown on the boxart).

It doesn't look like either big expansion will come with the dogs though as the box of zombies #5 shows that they are exclusive to that mini expansion and the rules for the dogs are on a separate 1 page rule sheet rather then part of either of the big expansion rules books.

Looking like this Kickstarter will end up with over twice the content of the original so hopefully they can keep it at a reasonable price. Guillotine Games have hinted that you only need to pick up the Season 2 Prison Outbreak box set to get the new exclusive promo miniatures with the Toxic Mall expansion as an optional addon.

This maybe a silly question but does anyone know if this will be able to be played without the original zombicide?

Toxic Mall, no. That is an expansion

Prison Outbreak, yes. That is a standalone

Though you could get both the Prison Outbreak and the Toxic Mall and you'll be good

Checking out the Tabletop Gaming Artcle, with no Rocket Science involved, based on the image names, I'm speculating that the Prison Break Zombies are All BESERKERS !!!!

I've gotten my moneys worth... I love the game. it's simple to play but no 2 games have been the same.
I'm stoke this give me more options for PCs and enemies... play in a mall or a prison...

they need to do a Ving Rhames from Dawn of the dead, and Lil Zhe as a Kid from City of God.....

the game is fun for my whole family, sometimes we play before walking dead, I'm excited.

actually this thing has replaced most choices for our boardgame nights. No more Sorry or Uno....

I am looking forwards to Toxic City Mall, though I am not sure about Prison Break, but I will probably back the Kickstarter anyway. It will be great to have more option for tiles, zombies, and survivors, though the base game has not gotten old yet in either of the groups I play it with.
