Alith Anar (sneaky high elf with S7 bow)
Arch Mage, level 4, book of hoeth (re-roll 1 power or dispel die), lore of high magic
Noble, heavy armor that lets him scout, magic bow (3 S5 shots)
Mage, level 2, high magic, ring of fury
2x15 archers, musicians
30 archers, musician
3x sky cutter chariots with bolt throwers
6 shadow warriors
4 repeater bolt throwers
20 sisters (7 wide).
Should be putting out 35 S3 hits, 29 S4 hits, 2 S5 no save bolt hits, 2 S5 bow shots, and a S7 no save bolt hit, At ~24".
Magic can produce 6D6 S4 hits (@ basic casting) and the + D3 boost spell sits really well on a unit of 30 archers. Walk between worlds if pretty good on a gun line. It lets them slip out of charge arcs or back up 5" (base casting) or 10" (boosted).
Triple chariots could charge once other options have been exhausted.
15 archers can take a charge from light units, 15 S3 attacks with re-rolls can wipe chaos/vampire dogs, harpies or even an eagle/sabre cat.

I love the list first off. Only thing I would worry about is the blood and glory scenario (or whatever the name of the banner one is).
possibly add a bsb and/or switch out archers for reavers w/ command?

Also love this idea for a list though instead of taking reavers simply drop 3 archers from 30 man unit to get a standard for each archer unit perhaps?

how do you read Alith Anar's bow? It says he can't march and shoot it, does that mean even if he joins a unit of skirmishers he can't march and shoot or will the character joining a unit of skirmishers take precedence?
or were you planning on putting him with a unit of archers?

Given you're going bow line some strange choices:
Why no 2nd Sisters unit? For the bolt throwers you trade 16 S4 shots for 20.
Why no hand maiden with Reaver Bow and potion of strength? 3 Bs7 S8 shots seems to fit this list perfectly.
Also do you need 6 High Magic spells.

You maybe didn't see my proposed army
65 archers
40 shadow warriors
40 sisters
Lvl4
Alith
Whatever you want for what's left. You can mix in chariots if you want.
Str 4 bows at BS5 are a little too good

I think the Repeating bolt thrower > 2nd Sisters.
6 S4 AP shots at 48" for 70 points.
Or, 5 S4 sometimes AP shots at 24" for 70 points.
To take another 20 sisters you'd give up 24 S4 AP shots.
While I really like the sisters, I think the extra range of the bolt throwers put them over the top. Also the ability to fire the S6 no save shot D3 wounds penetrate ranks can make a difference, when you get a flank shot.

Normally you can't march and fire.
Skirmish gives a model the ability to march in fire.
He's still armed with a bow that says no march and fire.
Think of it this way.
My empire engineer has the Long Rifle (36" range, S4 AP, sniper, and move or fire).
I stick that engineer in a unit of archers (which gives him skirmish = march and fire).
Can I now march and fire the long rifle? Of course not. The weapon has a specific rule to it's use.

You've only got 105 points left or so (assuming level 4 with book).
I'd rather have chariots and the 2nd wizard. Shadow warriors aren't that great at shooting. 40% increase in points over an archer for less range and +1 to hit.
Instead of shadow warriors, you'd be better off with 56 archers.
Skirmishers have a big foot print, it's tough to get more than 2 or 3 small units on the table usefully. I run 3x6 chameleons and have issues scouting and staying out of charge arcs.

this is my favorite new HE list I have seen. very different and something that did not feel possible in the last book.
I will probably try something very close to it. May mix in a dragon mage instead of the arch mage. I like flaming sword and the sunfire gem or whatever. Also potentially switching out the sisters for a fire phoenix.
the root of the list is very awesome! Congrats.

Too bad the sunfire gem only works on the character, and not the unit.
Still, flaming sword + gem means you get +2 to wound. That's a fireball wounding ogres/trolls on a 2+.

Gem also works on your mount! Hence your Dragon will probably be auto-wounding!

They did away with auto wounding in the most recent FAQ's.
You're dragons breathe would get the +1 to wound, it's melee attacks are not flaming, and would not get the +1.
It's too many points, and pales in comparison to mindrazor on... anything. Mindrazor is actually less points than the dragon + hero, and works on a variety of units and more than once a game.
Honestly, that item should be 5 points and 1 use, or ~35 points and the whole game.

Flaming sword will make the dragons attacks flaming that is the use of it.
Of course mindrazor is better but you have to roll that spell and then you have to cast it. The gem is a guarantee but yeah it is overcosted.

Don't underestimate the amount of fire power. With 2 shots and stand and fire, this elf list is dealing an average of 88 wounds on T4 models.
Add in magic, and a triple chariot charge and it's not so point and click.
Then when the beastmen do get to the block, they're taking fist fulls of ASF attacks with re-rolls to hit.
The high elves can also shut down the buff spells with drain magic and possibly destroy the banner of the beast in the magic phase.

Playing with combinations, I made a list that used two small units of shadow warriors (2 units of 6) and had each joined by:
Alith Anar
and
Prince w/ shadow armor, reaver bow, potion of strength, golden crown, great weapon, shield-- 229
It was fun to drop 3 str 8 shots in one turn as well as a str 7 bolt thrower shot from the opposite flank and str 5 magical shots in following turns is not so bad either. I am thinking of using this combination again, especially if special characters are not allowed in some of my upcoming events.
Just food for thought!

Then you have no wizard lord.
IMO, wizard lord > prince.
Come to think about it, I'd rather have your prince than Alith Anar.
Sadly the scoot and shoot army may play best with arch mage and price, and leave Alith Anar at home.

I was using minimal magic in my list for the game, but I can see the problem with no Lvl 4.
Lv 2 high magic with scroll and one of the rings (rhuin or fury) has been okay in a few games.
If its all the same though, dropping Alith and just taking the prince works as well and gives you more close combat punch in a pinch.
Have you tried Lore of Metal with this style of list yet? Feel the +1 to hit and AP spell would be very powerful from the sisters unit.

The AP only works in close combat. Casting Enchanted Blades on a 9 gives +1 to hit.
Casting Hand of Glory on a 5+ gives +D3 to hit (via BS) and +1 to Ward save. On a 10, they also get movement, weapon skill and initiative.
High Magic is more than twice as good, and easier to cast.
