General archmage requires a permanent ward save. May I suggest talisman of Endurance for 5++, you should be able to boost that to 3++ easily enough via spellcasting.
Standard of discipline, why? In general unless there is a very nice 55+ pt banner in an army list the
BSB should not be used for a magic banner, the main benefits for the
BSB are in the mundane standard. Now you need to keep the standard bearer alive, so keep him out of combat or tool him up. Dragon armour and halberd are fine, a ward save is better. You could however instead take ring of fury and reaver bow for two nasty distance attacks and hope to avoid direct combat.
If you do take ring of fury you unlock more points to boost the archmage with the book of hoeth.
I prefer pointy sticks, but each to their own.
Too many, you need one per melee block you send in to add additional weight on the charge turn. Use something else to redirect.
Nice, to make the most of this you need a way of getting irconcurse icon and the archmage to be surviably placed here.
