Hey all- been playin 40k for a while, but my store actually has a healthy fantasy community, and I was thinking about starting dwarves in fantasy. Any advice on what I should be starting with? I know very little about fantasy in general.

I'm in a similar situation. Not played fantasy for about 12 years and dusting off the Bearded Ones.
Thinking big blocks of great weapons, many crossbows and a cannon or three.

Two blocks of hammerers, between 30-40, a block of warriors with Great Weapons, again, between 30-40, two organ guns, two cannons (if you want a Grudge Thrower you can swap a cannon out for one) a bsb and a runesmith/lord with some scrolls and you'll be sweet.

That is about the most competitive list you can get, if someone tells you otherwise.... their just wrong.

It is good to see more joining the great Throngs!

But YES! The double Hammerers lists are excellent! I use a 2500pt tournament double Hammerers list and see it to victory constantly! This list is essentially the one I use, and it is really the best way to go, but of course, not the only! Only thing that can change is swapping the Warriors for GW Quarrellers and a small block of Thunderers, but that is not entirely necessary.

The Dwarfs currently are best off with Great Weapons. Big strong blocks of Warriors 25-40 with GW. One thing I would recommend is filling up the Core with GW Quarrellers and the Special with Hammerers. The Quarrellers are an excellent Core choice, essentially Warriors with crossbows, and GW. They can shoot down enemies and hold their own in combat when needed. The Organ Guns are under-rated, I think. For some reason I often see people advise against them, but they are one of the best weapons in the Dwarf army! Though they cannot take Runes, which causes a little less protection from misfires, they arent needed that much. Auto hits and an Artillery dice worth of shots ripping through enemies is nothing to leave behind. The double Cannon double Organ Gun combination is one of the best. And like it was said, a Grudge Thrower can be thrown in if the mood suits you, or a there will be very large blocks of enemy infantry.

Another thing I have used a lot of recently, is the Anvil of Doom. A well suited Runelord is deadly and powerful enough alone, but with an Anvil, even more so! I have found that often they are, or can be about only about 75-90pts less than Thorek, so I will many times simply include Thorek, as he is worth every single point. Have a Lord on Shieldbearers in one unit and a Thane Battle Standard Bearer in the other for a good morale/leadership spread, not that the Hammerers will ever be running anyways though!
