So, ill tell you about why I have the units I do and how I intend to form up on the field. Seaguard are the the main anvil obviously, using their bowfire and the unit of archers I should be able to harry away chaff without too much to worry about (if that fails then ill sill have fireball from the loremaster and a soul quench if I think is needed) the swordmasters are there for hord mulching and just in general destroying infantry in the droves, the DP death star ish unit is going to smash through elites monster cav and the like, even monsters if they need (5 S6 from the prince 3 S6 from the unit chap no as and ifits really big the 3 S7 from the bsb) figure the unit wll be able to do dmg and with that razor banner it will ensure the other princes do their part as well.

I don't have much for magic levels onl two level 2's but htanks to the master I have tons of preparation as far as variety goes, the high mage can help protect the pines by upgrading their already 6++ even higher when I cast spells, for magic defence I have the one DP and im trying not to be cheesy here but that banner of the world dragon is deadly as sin and covers that role quite nicely for magic defence, and the spell shieldon the DP unit champ is there just in case my magic phase is lack luster I still havea comfy 5++ minimum on that whole unit should anyone try to melt em down with some form of direct dmg etc

so thoughts/critiques!?

Cheers!!

Sea Guard, at only 35 strong, aren't going to anvil that well. If you're looking for an anvil, I'd swap the Seagaurd for Spearmen. Because Spearmen are cheaper, you'll get a lot more bodies for the same points.

Now, the Loremaster is nice, but I wouldn't use him as my main caster. I still think you need a Level 4 Wizard in there. Now, obviously, you can't fit an Archmage, a Prince and a Loremaster in the same list, so you'll have to choose which one to drop. Personally, I'd drop the Prince, but Princes tend to be the way to go in "fun" lists, since having your General fight it out with your opponent's is the highlight of many a game. If you're sticking with your characters, I'd switch their equipment around. Either your Prince, BSB or Loremaster needs to have the Shield of the Merwyrm since it is a cheap way of, effectively, getting a 4+ Ward. Dropping the Helm of Discord and Dragon Armour on your Prince for normal Heavy Armour and the SotM is a good move. On your Loremaster, get the Shield with the Sword of Might. You lose a point of strength, but gain re-rolls to hit and a nice 4+ Parry save.

The Lair of Vengeance....Poole.

If I'm honest, the best anvil in the new book is a block of 18ish Phoenix guard and a level 1 on high magic. No matter what you roll, you get an okay or a good spell. And you get the unit up to a 3+ ward that can actually fight.

The shield of the Meryrm is good, but if taken on anything other than a loremaster, it isn't that effective. As he can still get sniped, and he'll get no saves.

And a quick note on the list, I recommend the loremaster+level 4. That way, you get a lot of magic and a fighty character. I generally run my loremaster with the armour of caledor so he can take a hit.

If you insist on running a prince, the setup I find good is: Enchanted shield, Heavy Armour, Star Lance, barded steed, and Dragonbane Gem. He gets the 1+ and a 2+ vs flaming for less points than dragon armour. And he gets 4 ignoring armour attacks vs the 3 you currently get.

He goes in conjunction with a level 4 heavens with the book and a 4+ ward.

Noble setup is looking okay, but if you don't have a ward, he needs the 1+ armour. The way to do that is, Heavy armour, shield, barded steed and dragonhelm. He could do with a lance and potion of strength, as it does the same thing his current loadout does, but cheaper.

Level 1 is looking good, but he should go on foot, you'll see why, and you can probably guess what I'm going to say.

In the dragon prince list, the best core is made up of units of 6 silver helms and 5 reavers. This provides you with some form of chaff and flanking units. I generally run 3 units of 6 S. Helms and 2 units of 5 reavers with bows. (Added, not replaced, so I can meet core.)

But, if you want to take infantry, Archers are the best choice as their range, combined with the possibility of rolling hand of glory means that they work pretty well. And are cheap.

If you have dragon princes, you have a hitty unit. And your swordsmasters are far too fragile. You need a protective unit. I recommend taking phoenix guard. They are by far the most survivable unit in the book. The 4+ ward means that unless you encounter a TEST OR DIE! spell or something like the dreaded 13th, they will have a 50% chance of surviving, which then can be increased to 66.7% if you take a level 1 in there. In every game I've played, I've ended up moving my characters into the phoenix guard at least once during the game.

The Prince are looking good. I think that the magic item for the champ is pointless as any weapon he takes is better on a character, and he has more than 50 points of magic items. So that needs changing too.
