I've been playing 40k casually for a few years now, and while I still enjoy it with my friends, we've been itching to try something else, and have been looking into getting started with WHFB. I knew I wanted to get into Skaven right away, but I also didn't want to get into "net listing" like I did with some of my 40k armies, so I really only took some slight advice from the Skaven Tactics article on the 1d4chan.org wiki to come up with the following 1k list:

LORD: 18.8%

Warlord - 188
-War-litter
-Weeping Blade
-Shield
-Foul Pendant

HERO: 20.4%

Warlock Engineer - 130
-Wizard Level 2 (Ruin)
-Warpmusket
-Warlock Optics

Chieftain - 74
-Battle Standard
-Shield, Halberd

CORE: 37.8%

Skavenslaves [40] - 82
-Musician

Skavenslaves [40] - 82
-Musician

Clanrats [35] - 214
-Musician
-Warpfire Thrower

SPECIAL: 8%

Warplock Jezzails [4] - 80

RARE: 15%

Doomwheel - 150

TOTAL: 1000

I'm still up in the air about the Engineer, the Jezzails, and what to do about equipment for the Clanrats, but so far it seems like a good place to start. What does Dakka think?

Side effects of worshiping Papa Nurgle include (and are not limited to): Boils, scabs, internal bleeding, external bleeding, bleeding from the gums, eyes and ears, sweating, dehydration, furuncles, rash, pus-filled sores, nausea, vomiting, bloody vomit, black vomit, black & bloody vomit, sneezing, runny nose, dry nose, coughing, dry cough, wet cough, not-so-dry-but-still-raspy coughing, fever, hay fever, athlete's foot, athlete's arm, swimmer's ear, farmer's tongue, drowsiness, sleepiness, insomnia, mad cow disease, mad postal worker disease, loose bowels, constipation, anal leakage, and blood clotting. In most cases side effects were generally in the extreme and permanent. Consult your local cultist before worshiping Nurgle.

Maybe it's just me but other than the warpfire thrower you don't have anything that'll hit hard enough vs certain units that'd do enough damage. I mean what if you were to face ogres, warriors of chaos, dwarfs or elves. You don't need elites but you don't have the firepower or the sheer power to knock them down. With just 4 jezzails (2 will hit per turn basically), one warpfire thrower (that could misfire) and a doomwheel (which is very random in movement) might not work and for big elite units you don't have the firepower from magic, shooting or big powerful melee units to handle them.

Slaves are good but you either want to run them with small 15 pts warlocks in each unit for boosted leadership or you want to use them as meat shields for soaking up firepower of both the enemy and you. Also with slaves you can make small units and possibly force them to 'flee' so that you can force enemies to fail charges and go much slower.

Skaven rares are fantastic and the doomwheel is ok but in most ways the hellpit abomination is better. The doom wheel is mostly a monster killer and a chariot but when it fails to charge it dies and in some cases you want it near an enemy monster rather than on top of one. Both the abomination and the doomwheel are good at killing skirmishers as their random movement prevents the enemy from doing anything other than electing to 'hold'. I would still probably go for the double warp lightning cannons if at all possible though.

Usually i haven't had a skaven warlord win a duel unless it was wielding a fellblade. This costs a lot though and enemies may just try to avoid him if possible. Still causes monsters to avoid him and i may use skitterleap on him.

A grey seer at this point value wouldn't give much in the way of items to spend points on. Perhaps the warlord staying in the back to give his general 'command radius' would be best for now.

------------

Overall i think you need one more level 2 wizard. Warp lightning cannons or a hellpit would definitely add some punch to your list. Slaves are good but you need the right stuff with them. I prefer to take small units of clanrats now to have weapons teams with and only so i can place said weapons teams behind slave units so that i can shoot into my own skaven-slave combats.

Then again i don't really play 1k pts games so take of this what you will. The best advice is to ask for what 'warpsolution' thinks about your list. That person is good at skaven lists.

I like the "something different" kind of Skaven lists, I have only been playing/collecting them for a few months now and my list falls into that same catagory....I have the Warlord on Brood Horror leading my army.

I can't offer any advice at this point but just wanted to give you a thumbs up for having something different from the norm
