Hi I'm looking to start a HE army. But I don't own the book. Just wondering what's looking really good out of the book rules wise? I've watched one battle report on yout00bs and really liked the look of dem pheonix.

Units I like:

Phenix guard
sea guard
flying stuff
Avelorn archers

I don't really no much about HE but really liked the look of the new models. Looking at about 2500 point list.
any help would be cool thanks fellas.

I'm pretty new to High Elves as well. Only played 2-3 games before the new book and 1 game after the new book. I play at the 1000-1500 point level, but I'll try and help out as much as possible.

At that point level I know you'll need an archmage, noble BSB, and maybe a special character of your choosing.
Try and look into some Ellyrion Reavers for WM hunting.
From reading around DakkaDakka and Ulthuan.net the best way to take seaguard is in a horde of 40-50.
I have a phoenix, just got it painted so haven't played with it so I cant tell you how powerful it is, alot of people suggest using the ice version, but I painted mine as flame.
You're going to need some special, in my 1500 list I use 20 Phoenix Guard and 14 Swordmasters, I hear that White Lions are pretty good, but haven' used them yet.
Sorry for the lack of info and no 2,500 list, but hopefully this gets you started and I'm sure others on Dakka will help you out.

Isle of blood is a really good place to start. You get a unit of reavers, 10 sword masters, a Mage, 10 sea guard and a prince/noble on griffon. All the models barring the Mage are gorgeous. Trade away the skaven for more reavers or sword masters or sell em on ebay. The reavers and sea guard will start your core off nicely you just need to fill it out. MSU sword masters seems to be popular so picking up some more may be an idea. I also really like the archmage and the prince/noble character kits as each enables you to make 2 characters 1 mounted, 1 on foot.

Like Mibalz says, at 2.5k you'll need a Lvl 4 Caster and a BSB (the special character is not necessary however). Characters are very important, so make sure you don't neglect them.

All the units you've listed are pretty solid choices. Sea Guard are meh imo, since I'm not convinced the shooting makes up for the points increase. I use Sea Guard models, but run them as Spearmen. LSG are cheaper than they were so they are at least viable.

Pheonix Guard are a great anvil unit, especially with some form of High Magic being cast out the unit. However, they're not particularly fighty, so make sure to include a dedicated CC unit (such as white lions, swordmasters or dragon princes) in your list too.

The flying stuff is all good as well. Eagles are great for hunting war machines, the Phoenixes are great too and the sky cutter also has its uses, though I would go as far as to say it's the worst of the three. Still a good choice though!

Sisters of Avelorn are also very good too and they've performed very well on all my games with them so far.

Hope this helps, I may post back with a list in a bit (no book on me ATM)

Edit: Ok, here's something you could go with. It's by no means definitive (and it is somewhat hastily constructed), but it's something to work around.
