I'm getting Tau soon and I was just wondering is this a good army list for a beginner

3 battlesuits

12 firewarriors

3 stealth suits

1 piranha

8 drones one markerlight

Sorry for no gear etc. but I don't have the codex yet

you will need a hq but i sugest not getting stealth suits there just not worth there points imoo apart from that i suggest 3 x piranhas they dont last long on there own if you going to buy from the store soon.

I suggest

2 x Fire Worriers

Etherial.

and a few xv8 suites

depends of how your playing but with your current list there is a nice start but i think lose the stealth suits.

Unless you are fielding 2 squads of 6 fire warriors I would suggest another fire warrior Squad. If you want to field 6 then I would suggest getting a devilfish or two just to give them some survivability and movement ability. for small point games, a Riptide can also be a good investment as it is very tough to take down in smaller point games. The drones are normally a wate of points. The best HQ for smaller point games is an Ethereal because of the buffs he gives, and his small points cost.

I think the Original poster just listed the tau battle force box for his list. It is a good start to get a feel for the codex in small point games if you are new to the game i guess.

You'll have the HQ and then 2 separate suits. All BCs for the Stealths. FB for the piranha. Two 6 packs of FWs and then spread out the MarkerDrones (that is, proxy the GDs for MarkerDs).

It is a good start. Skip any tank purchases to load up on up to 9 XV8s. That has always met my needs in 1750 and down. Another box of two boxes FWs. One set can be made into Pathfinders (or buy that box). When you're up for serious spending, broadsides, HYMPs.

Buy GW's stupid, pricey book.
