Get some combi-meltas in the sternguard and you dont really want to be usuing rhinos - i would suggest drop pods instead. Your troops wont survive that long and is it really necessary for 3 dreads?

I was a little surprised by the rhinos instead of the more traditional drop pods for sternguard. Also the lack of Kantor in a CF list with that many of them. But what you have should work. I would mix up the combis, or cut a lot of them out. When you are in rhinos, the first turn alpha strike is not quite as critical.

170 points gets you a full 10 man tactical squad with free ML/F.

I'm not a fan of the TLLC turret in the pred. Which you should include in your write up. Or stop paying 105 points for it.

But you do need more anti-tank fire in your list.

If I'm not mistaken, you're paying for full 10-man tactical squads instead of 9-man squads.

Also, what is the purpose of 9-man tactical squads? I assume it is so you can have your HQ choices in the Rhino with the rest of the squad, but you don't have Rhinos listed or paid for on your Tactical Squads.

I'm a little confused by this list, from a competitive standpoint and kinda a flavor standpoint.

On the flavor side, why no Pedro Kantor? He makes your sternguard scoring, and they're really potent in that manner.

On the competitive side:
1) Why Master of the Forge? I know it's because you want Dreadnoughts in Heavy support, but why? They aren't giving you much benefits over the typical anti-tank pred (Autocannon + LC sponsoons) or the dakka pred (HB sponsoons). The AC dread particularly surprises me. Given it's short range, it's going to die before it makes it up the field to actually start doing things.

2) Sternguards
I'm a big fan of sternguards in rhinos or drop pods (they can perform some very interesting roles in rhinos) but I'm not a fan of combi-plasma. Given their ridiculously good special ammunition, it behooves a player to choose a combi/weapon that gives them abilities they don't have. Meltas give them tank busting capabilities, combi-flamers (and even heavy flamers) give them anti-horde.

Also, as Nevelon rightly says, not every one of them needs a combi, though a good amoung should have combi-meltas.

I'd also add that Sternguard, like most marines, are pretty terrible on the assault. Unless they're hitting things that are bad at assault, in which case, they'll beat it without toys. The sergeants should lose the power fists.

Given the rhino's two firing points, and the sheer hilarity of it, I'd recommend each sternguard look like this:

10 sternguard w/ 5 combi-meltas and 2 HFs. You split the sternguard into combat squads and keep them both in the same rhino, using the HFs to provide anti-infantry with the rhino and the 5 combis to take out tanks. That being said this is a fun, but kinda funky build, so don't be afraid to just go with 5 combi-meltas in a single squad.

3) Tac squads: As many have said, they get a free Flamer/ML at 170 points (the cost of 10 tac marines). They also desperately need metal boxes/drop pods to come on the field for. Perhaps the only commandment of the current space marines is that Footslogging marines die before they do any good. They need metal boxes.

4) I again agree with Nevelon that the TLLC pred is not optimal, and recommend going with autocannon + LC sponsoons or just typical AC + HB sponsoons.

5) Pedro kantor: Given his boost to sternguards, why not include him? You can even lose the libby, just keep a Kantor-like HQ.

6) Scout squad
Why only 3 sniper rifles? Did you mean 4? Why not give the sarge one? Their may be instances where that extra shot is worth more than a ML boost.

I might actually recommend changing the ML to a HB. Hellfire shells are nice, and a single ML usually doesn't do much for me.

7) Anti-tank
The list lacks a lot of it. Predators fix it, as do melta-guns/MM on tac squads, MLs in Tac squads, etc. Thunderfire cannons are also a fun thing to add (though they won't help you against fliers.

8) Fliers
If you're meta has fliers, you are going to have trouble dealing with it. A single ADL + quad gun can help a lot with that.

@Vivster: yeah I had a whole heap of plasma pistols so I went a little nuts. I have a surplus of rhinos but I only have the one drop pod. I like three dreads just extra firepower.

@nevelon: Yeah I have Pedro but I wanted to make a list that had my new Librarian in there just to give him a run. Also you are most certainly correct it was a typo on my behalf, I was at work when I was typing this list up and I didn't check battlescribe correctly, they are 9 man squads and only 154pts. I like the TL LC turret, in particular I like to sit him a little back and "snipe" targets. And I agree, maybe drop a stern or two to bring them to 10 man tac squads and open up the ml?

@Raatcharch: See above. My strategy, while at work, was to run the rhinos forward and try and cut the numbers down so I could walk the rest up and so we they do make it into firing range there aren't as many enemy units to dispose of. But thinking of it now the stern would do most of it but maybe I'm putting too much faith in my stern (though they have never disappointed me yet in any of my games).

@hashbeth: I could understand your confusion, it was only a list I through together with no real purpose but that I could and I was bored at work. 1) basically nailed it and plus I only have one pred atm, I'm working on it though. 2) I love sternguards they have never failed me yet. 3) Agreed, I'll get another drop pod for my stern which will free up my two rhinos for them. 4) Fair enough. 5) refer above. 6) I did mean 4 with a ml (typo) and fair enough. 7) yeah I only have ml models strangely. 8) I do have a Stormtalon but many of the senior guys at my local store sort of said that they weren't/aren't that effective (though in saying that most of the regulars don't have flier's) and to tell you honestly it hasn't been useful, late game entry and it was taken out early the one time it did come on.
