Subject: Strikingscorpion82 - Stunning models in exciting video battle reports
First off, I am not Strikingscorpion82 nor do I work with him, I asked for permission to post this here from him and he gave me the go-ahead. I feel he deserves more attention for his hard effort.
Anyway, what separates his battle reports from others is that his have professional editing, the vast majority of the models are all painted to a very good standard and his terrain is nice and thematic. The video quality is very nice and he remembers to show off the board from the model perspective down low, showing you the action in detail.
He also does other things like painting tutorials.
Here's two he made recently.

What's the first thing people do when they hit play on a YouTube video?
They look at the length of the video.
57:40 and 41:09?
Ain't nobody got time for that!
Really nice stuff, but I just skipped through for a couple seconds and looked at the pretty models. If he could cut them down to 10 minutes or so, I'd watch them all day long!

Just wondering why the leman russ have the lascannon and heavy bolter upgrades? You can only fire the ordnance weapon OR the rest? (as they changed the leman russ from lumbering behemoth to heavy vehicle in the errata)
On 3 leman russ thats alot of points wasted...

Incorrect on the shooting in regards to Eldar turn 2. The Aegis Defence line states as long as he is behind the wall he gets a 4+ cover save, he is also close enough to it to ensure that. The direction of the shot does not matter as long as he is within or behind the Aegis.
19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

Seeing as he is shooting with all 3 at normal BS I guess the IG player is still using lumbering behemoth rules.
Watched the entire thing and was enjoyable although some things kind of annoyed me. There were quite some obvious rules and strategic mistakes happening (personal pet peeve) like:
- actively not using units for very little reward (700 points of models doing nothing the entire game)
- activating psychic powers on units the turn they arrive from reserves
- using incorrect cover saves (4+ for intervening models instead of 5+) and several other times claiming a better cover save than they should have had
- putting templates over friendly units too hit enemy units
- not trying to charge on turn 6 with wraithlords
- not killing scoring units on turn 6
And also it seemed like a lot of morale checks were never made, or that IG player is one of the luckiest guys ever with morale. Seeing as a lot of the to wound roles were filmed, the more important morale rolls were not.
Still thumbs up for putting these up

Obviously excellent production, terrain, armies etc. But they can't be that long. It's just not feasible to watch them. I just skimmed through the first video. There is no reason to show people the individual reserve rolls being made for your (wonderfully painted) units, one by one, at a leisurely pace. And while the maker is obviously a good guy to have a game with, he does not seem to convey a huge amount of excitement or humour. He goes through what is happening in quite a soft, slow voice.

I fundamentally disagree! I do love long, detailed bat reps! bluetablepainting does 2h reps! and I prefer them most of the time over latest movies at the cinema

Blue Table Painting's batreps - oh my God. I simply can't sit through those. For me, they are the best example of how NOT to do BatReps.
I suspect you may be in the minority with your love of very long batreps, but, what do I know? To each his own and I am not saying you're wrong and I'm right. Simply a matter of preference.

It's easier to watch when the armies are all nicely painted and they are playing on a good looking table. That's one of the reasons I enjoy yours, Xenocidal.

I love his battle reports. The music is well done and not over the top, the painted armies and tables are eye catching, and the filming is really good (in comparison to others I have seen). All in all I find them enthralling. I even love the little quotes he adds in during the game.

I'm fine with long and short batreps as when I paint or whatever I can watch a long report without having to stop what I'm doing every ten minutes. But also when I'm trying to watch a quick report with Imperial guard to get my fix when i can't play ten minutes is long enough. Anyway, the IG player only had one troop choice. Easily fixed and I still enjoyed the report.
Yeah I watched some of these on YouTube (I follow him now) and they are outstanding! Always makes a difference to watch a battle report with painted models (especially well painted ones). The videos themselves are well edited too.

I know it's an old thread, but these reports are very well done. They are a bit long, but I can definitely sit through one a day or so as the terrain, models and playstyles are enjoyable. Thanks for the links.
No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Anyway, the models are indeed great, and I can certainly appreciate the amount of obvious care and loving attention the guy puts into these reports. I agree that the length is just killer, though. I find myself skipping through about 80% of the content.

While I do like long batreps, you do prattle on a bit too much for me. I watched 19 mins of you covering basically the same 3 things over and over. Bored the heck out of me and I stopped watching TBH. Focus your batrep a bit more on the game and less on repeats of previously covered material.

Count one more in that "minority". I've just watched the Eldar episode and enjoyed it enormously. Something with some real depth and lots of lovely visuals, not some sparse little report with no excitement or tension.
If I wanted to show a person what 40K was about and could pick just one video, it would be that.
But whilst the terrain, the models, the pacing, the narration, the production values were all beautiful, wow was it frustrating watching those Wraith Lords and Avatar doing next to nothing on the other side of the table. Not to mention those Warp Spiders. Seriously, the moment the action started in that corner, the Wraith Lords should have been running like crazy to join the action. Can you imagine what would have happened if they'd assaulted the Penal unit? And the Avatar? Sure, I appreciate the advantage of having fearless, but that's a very wasteful way of getting it. If you really wanted to just sit on some objectives at the back of the board, a couple of fat squads of Guardians would have done it as well and for less. Of course hindsight is twenty-twenty. He couldn't have known when picking his army what the table and the mission would have been or what the IG would do. But once it was known, get the Avatar up there. It's even a Melta weapon against tanks if you want to use it that way. It could have torn through any unit the IG had there.
And the Harlequins lost without a single blow struck by them as far as I could see. Soooo frustrating. Those Striking Scorpians show why I like to keep some CC in reserve though for counter-attack.
Brilliant report though. I'm looking forward to the next one.

I think these are amazingly done. A little long yes. but that's what the slide bar is for. If you don't want to watch the bottom of a turn, just pass it up.
I think he does an incredible job with commentary (maybe a little too much) and the way he assesses tactical choices real time is helpful to viewers.
Great job. Looking forward to next.

Yes. Whilst I'm sure many here might bemoan various tactical choices, I see these videos as superb tutorials to new players (barring the occasional rules mishap. )

Wow, these are some great battle reports, and the terrain and models are painted very well. I don't know, the immersion you get from watching two great painted armies and solid terrain is really great.
There were quite a few mistakes / misjudgements in the rules but I was able to overlook those because they're playing a friendly game.
Long reports but I like them. Thanks for posting.
