Reecius and Pascal get in a 1500pt practice game for the upcoming Celesticon tournament, Saturday 8-31-2013. Reecius busts out his Mech IG and Pascal runs a new version of his flying circus Daemons!

Thanks for posting. But I have to say, battle reports like this depress the hell out of me.

Newsflash: flying monstrous creature circus with 4 virtually un-killable creatures wins. Ho hum.

I did like hearing Recius's tactical thoughts as the game progressed. But of course, there was next to nothing he could really do to realistically stay n the game. His opponent was exactly right when he said: "Basically, I don't need any strategy at all to kill him."

That's 40k? That's a battle? That's a battle report?

Sorry to vent. I enjoy Frontline Game reports. I don't play a lot of tournament-hard lists or games myself, but I appreciate the tactical insight and the camaraderie of the Frontline Crew. So, no knock on Reece or anything.

But this game was so extreme. Just so bleak and pointless.

Ah well. I look forward to the next report!

Yeah its unfortunate that the Codex writers came up with all these armies with a 2++ rerollable save as it makes it virtually impossible for a lot of armies to deal with that. Not too many armies out there that can pump out 180 wounds with 6's needed to hit just to kill Fateweaver. You just have to either tarpit their units or bank that the Warp Storm and Grimoire all mess up their own player.

Thanks for another batrep, Reece. I have to say, I like the angled overhead camera angle better. Please go back to it. Looking forward to the next batrep

@tinfoil

Yeah, I don't know what they were thinking with the rules that allows a 2++ reroll (or 2+ armor or cover with reroll for that matter), it straight up isn't fun. It's hard not to get mad when you play against that, and I play those lists ALL THE TIME! haha.

The one consolation is that it is very rewarding to win against that kind of crazy stuff, when you do win.

@yodisisray

The only problem is that Fateweaver's stupid ass reroll makes it incredibly difficult to ground units, and the Grimoire becomes ultra reliable. He is just so stupidly powerful.

@Garukadon

We will, a lot of folks have been saying that.

IG is not in a great place against all these MC type lists. They just have so few options and weapons that can deal with them and those weapons that are good have either ~12" effective range (ie you are probably going to lose the squad) or are on a flyer you feel bad for spamming.

Daemons are a weird army as if you roll well they can steam roll people but with bad rolls they can get whooped. In my experience with them the secret is to have the range or mobility to deal with grimoire bearer or have a tarpit for kairos to get trapped in. The other half of this is to have a sense of humor because sometimes the CD dex rolls that magic number and you meet bubba in a hard way.

FW shakes up the IG dynamic a lot and refreshes the entire army (for me at least, I love the vulture and centaur models and rules). Reece have you ever tried FW?

Oh yeah, we love FW! We allow FW in all our tournaments. And yes, I actually just acquired a Vulcher and can't wait to use that to blast some of those damned Daemons back to the warp! Plus, it is my favorite Vehicle model in all of 40K, I can't wait to paint it!

I actually really like the LR exterminator w/ Lascannon and Multi-Meltas against MCs.

Its not that hard to kill fateweaver. You kill the guy with the grimior. Then you just shoot down fateweaver. Even if the grimior on a herald of nurgle then you use flamers. The list is pretty hard but its not by any means unbeatable.

Chaos: 6500pts
Imperium: 2500pts
Orks: 1000pts
AoS Chaos 3000pts

Once you get it done you will have to show it off on a batrep.

Then you just kill the unit with the flamers, its not that hard to do that.....

I dislike nurgle princes, not being able to sweep and having to relying on terrain (he kept the 3+ armour reward so assuming he didnt go for armour on the princes) just kills it for me, much prefer tzeentch princes with 3+ armour re rolling 1's.

Next time take an armoured company with beast hunter shells. 1 wound = 1 dead MC. Losing eternal warrior was one of the few nerfs for the new daemon codex....

Even tournaments that allow FW usually do it on a unit basis. FW army lists are still not allowed. I think that makes sense as those army lists are made for specific campaigns in the FW books and are balanced to regular 40k.

This is wrong on so many levels. I've played in tournaments that allow FW armies (I took my assault brigade) so that blanket statement is not true. FW army lists are far more balanced than just picking and choosing the best units from FW and the codex. Doing that, I would argue unbalances the game far more. To give an example, I would rather play an armoured company than a codex list with masses of sabres and ordnance batteries. 'regular 40k' as you put it is not balanced and has not been balanced for two editions now. I think it's ironic that you can read this battle report, and then post your concern about FW ruining the 'balance' of 'regular 40k'. MC's specifically are extremely unbalanced with nids, daemons and now even tau, rarely leaving home without three of the beasts. MC's need a hard counter, and weapons with Instant death provide that.

I'm not going to get into a back and forth about the merits or otherwise of FW with you, this is the last I'll post on the subject in this thread. I'm sorry if my post comes across as a wee bit snooty but I find the argument about FW unbalancing 'regular 40k' infuriating because it is self evidently false.

All the best mate.

Armoured Company is as generic a list as you could possibly make. It is literally just for Imperial Guard regiments/forces that are fully mechanized.

What someone online on the other side of the world that you've never met says should never deter you from taking a unit for being either weak or OP. The community is a great place to come for tactics advice, and there is a lot of very sound opinions and idea out there, but at the end of the day, play the game how you want to... Don't worry about the hordes of Dakka descending on your gaming club to arrest you for taking one heldrake or not using a screamerstar. Knowing the standard opinion (and that's all it is) on what is good/bad and conforming to that opinion religiously are two entirely separate things.
