to summarize we have bladestorm, baledrakes... I wont bother posting the giant list but we have a lot of stuff that easily kills power armour.
now centurions come along pizza and big gulp in one hand, grav cannon in the other. herp derp your armour allows me to slaughter you easily.
and since everyone is either going to be playing space marines or dusting off and adding to their old space marines, it's not like seeing grav weapons will be rare either.
so at this point wouldn't the imperium either switch to a new light weight suit of armour or switch to synskin since clearly power armour is a useless, dangerous antiquated technology?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

it seems the grav centurions get 10 ap2 shots with rerolls plus lots of other stuff. and are cheap. correct me if im wrong but only around 200 points?
basically it looks like gw wanted a hard counter to riptides and friends. coincidently that hard counter is on the new big expensive kit. and the cycle continues.

Yeah they get 10 shots of ap2....but isnt it wounding at armor value? So a 6+ armor would wound on a 6?

I was wrong.
it is FIFTEEN AP 2 shots, rerolling to wound, split targets for around 250 points.

Or rather 250pts dead on.
Squad starts at 190, 20pts per grav cannon and amp upgrade, +10pts each to replace the bolters with a missile launcher. Only 24 though....
What you guys should be more worried about 3 man bike squads with 2 grav guns and a combi grav for 103pts, that's 9 shots with a 30" threat range.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

half the fricken books are meq. they might not get grav yet but they still wear power armour.

I liked the original rules for graviton weapons better, but they really weren't compatible with this edition.
Besides, grav weapons aren't for fighting Space Marines. The game already has plasma guns and metla guns for that.

grav amps are really what make the gravgun shine imho. rerolling misses on vehical results for that one 6 to get and immobilized result is super good. Especially vs flyers and landraiders.

The amps are only available on the cannons, therefore only on the cents. So no worries about the biker grav spam squads using amps.
15 shots, 3+ to hit = 10 hits
6+ to immob and take a hull point with a reroll = 3 hull points on average.
Hell, it's not entirely clear what the second grav hit does. The first is immob and a hull point, but the second is a hull point, but it's already immob'ed, so is that a another hull point? So 3 down on the second 6? If so, that's a dead Land Raider per volley of 3 Cents.

The imperium hasn't replaced power armor because in the background power armor is a hell of a lot tougher than it is in game.

OT,
Grav Centurions don't really worry me that much, 250 pts is a lot for 6 wounds and no invulnerable, and they're slow and short ranged and can't defend themselves in melee.

I really don't understand all the rage hate for the gravguns. Why is it generally only acceptable for Xenos armies to have gobs and gobs of MEQ/TEQ nullifying weapons, while the armies that are actually consisting of MEQ/TEQ units just dance around with short ranged, single shot Melta and Gets Hot Plasma?

You mean other than the fact that they have an ability given to almost every unit that nullifies something like 6 rules plus get grenades that allow them to not be affected by two other rules. Then are given the ability to drop units on first turn with next to no chance of mishap so they can charge on turn two. On top of having a starting armour for nearly every unit that is better then most xenos crack cc units? No idea why some people dislike it......
I don't think grav guns are going to be the end all and be all some people are afraid of. I see it as one more option and that's the biggest thing it will do is give them an option.

The way they are written, they either immobilize and hull point on a 6, or they do nothing to vehicles. And they do nothing to buildings.
It's fairly interesting that their effect is called "graviton", which directly links them to the graviton guns of RT & 2nd Edition, but they don't function anything like them, lol. The original fluff for the graviton guns was that they were designed for use in low gravity environments and adapted for warfare use in sieges and demolition. Their original rules were directly mostly at destroying vehicles and structures, lol.

I kind of hope that grav stays unique to C: SM. As much as my Wolves would love some grav guns, I think it'd be better if they were unique to C: SM so they had at least some flavour (and so DA don't get shafted any more than they probably already are going to be when the other MEQ books get updated).

Grav Centurions are mean, but they aren't really mobile and can be gunned down by ap2 stuff very quickly, and ap2 stuff is becoming more and more common. A vindicator is probably a hard counter, since it could hypothetically ID a whole squad, and will be in range since both unit's guns are 24".
I think the real hotness with grav guns will be bikers. 2 of them plus combi-grav means lots of shots on a highly mobile platform. Cripple one squad, move to the next, rinse repeat. 30" threat range because of relentless, and can even charge afterwards, meaning there isn't really a 4+ save or better unit in the game that they shouldn't shred in one turn if they really want to. Automatically Appended Next Post: marv335 wrote:

In the right situation that can be scary, but that's a lot of points. If an army doesn't bring anti-tank then certainly you're golden, but it's likely not competitive.

Just out of curiosity, how do the Grav weapons work against models with an invulnerable save but no armour save?
What about models with both?

Always equal to the armor save, minimum 6+.
Safe to say, the rules are wonky as heck. It makes sense that daemons might not be affected by this, but apparently Ogryns are fairly immune compared to Space Marines.
