Hey everyone,
I finally got around to starting my Skaven army and bought a bunch of models a while ago but haven't has a chance to paint them.
I wanted to put this post up so maybe I can get motivated more to paint up more models.

Just finished the first model from the Island of Blood set, the Skaven Warlord.
I am far from the best painter but I think this is my best model I have painted so far (with my Tau Stealth Team second).
I think the base is lacking alot but there isnt that much room to put anything.

If you want to check out my space marine pictures in my gallery it will show you how far my painting has come since I first started warhammer 40k and fantasy. I haven't uploaded any Lotr stuff yet but I painted them ages ago when I was like 12 so they aren't worth uploading (maybe just for comparison tho)

Comments and Critique are always welcome I always want to get better! I will be posting some clan rats or rat ogres soon, Thanks!
P.s I apologize for the lighting I can't seem to get it right just yet

Thanks! It looks better in real life, my camera just makes things a little fuzy :( The flame I was really happy the way it turned out with the transition (one of the reasons I picked skaven was because of all that green warpstone stuff haha)

I just painted up a Rat Ogre (took a total of 4 hours maybe which is pretty sad, but I did it in 1 sitting an hour ago haha)
This is really my first time trying flesh tones at this big a scale the warlord was the first but had very little skin.

I also included a picture of one of the first models I painted a space marine, I just started painting less than a year ago and my whole space marine army looks like the pic I showed and Tau haven't really been painted much just a few things.

Without anymore to say here is my first rat ogre! Comments and Critique always welcome

This warpstone in the arm and the green tone inside the arm cracks is my favourite part of the model

Now the comparison model from my space marines just for fun haha

@alpharius thanks for moving this and thanks for the comments

@dwarfus thanks for the comments

I am not sure what I'm going to paint next, I'm speed painting my clanrats so I might make the front rank look better so maybe I will post that next.

Poisoned wind mortar and warpfire throwers I will start soon, but I think a warlock Engineer will be posted next!

P.s any advice one painting the bronze parts? I find the gw metallic paint thin and doesn't give me that bronze I am looking for.

Hey everyone so I just finished some clanrats so thought I would post them for some comments.

I actually based ALL 100 clanrat I have using glue and some dirt/rock/kitty litter type stuff and now I am realizing it was probably a bad idea because it isn't coming out the way I wish it would have.
The rocks seem to fall off way to easily which sucks so I haven't painted the based really.

These models were done really quickly to try out a speed painting technique so I finished all 10 in maybe 3-4 hour max. No highlights I know but when I have to paint 100+ models I don't see the point of to much fine detail when they will be in blocks of 30-50 lol

Here the models are and any comments and suggestions are always welcome as always

You can see the bases in some of these just look terrible because the rocks fell off and left black bare plastic but again in large blocks it might not be a big deal.

@kingjayko
Ya there really isn't a lot of Skaven stuff kicking around in the galleries or painting blogs so I thought I would add a blog as I build my army up.

Next up should be either a warpfire thrower or poison wind mortar but who knows that could change!

Well heres something I did tonight. I just went to the FLGS and there is a spot open for a 1250 per person doubles tourni. I don't have much painted for skaven except what I have posted and I don't want to show up with all grey models.

SO I primed ALL my skaven (well except a few things)
Now I am planning on doing a massive wash of watered down mournfang brown or w/e its called on every model (easy way to start for skaven on a white primer pro tip).
This will at least give me a good base so I can speed through the clanrats as fast as possible there are 90 of them, 1 rat ogre, 1 poison wind mortar, 1 mastermoulder and then 1 engineer.

OH DID I MENTION THE TOURNAMENT IS IN 2 WEEKS?! I don't think I will finish but I will try lol

Well it has been quite some time since I have time to paint anything I got really busy lately so haven't had much time to paint.

I did do this poisoned wind mortar the other day tho.
I need a better camera because these pictures are pretty fuzy so makes it look worse than it actually is.
But here it is!

Going to be adding some new stuff here. A warlock engineer

I am using a different basing material (Spackling) which looks like snow which I like and can be easily painted. I might redo all the bases because the rocks I have are falling off to easily and causing a mess.

Here it the engineer though hope you like it

I'm really liking how you're sticking to a few solid colours. As a newcomer to the hobby who is doing skaven himself, I'll make sure to follow this thread!

Btw, have you considdered leaving the bases white? I'm a huge fan of snow/winter themed armies

Ya I actually haven't had much time to paint but have a Hellpit Abomination about 70% done so that will be done soon.

I have considered it actually and I might do that just because the 100 clanrats are already based but the rocks/gravel is falling off so need to put some more PVA glue on it to make it stick.

As for the keeping to a few colours that is probably the bet way to do skaven in my opinion because if you get to complex with the colour scheme you will be painting forever.

Hi, your models look amazing, especially the little green markings on the first one. When you take pictures do you use natural light or artificial light?

Hey guys I am going to be doing an update here with all my stuff I have been working on lately!!!!

I have completed 25ish clanrats total but haven't uploaded any pictures yet so far I have a Hellpit Abomination, Warpfire Thrower and 25 clanrats and a few other bits and bobs to post so here goes.
P.s these pictures need to be cropped and the white blanace is off I am getting used to this new DSLR I am shooting with but feel free to go in my gallery to zoom in on the pictures for a better view of something shouldn't be to grainy (pictures were compressed by dakka because they were so big tho so loss of some detail haha)

I like what you've done so far, it's looking good.
Would recommend a heavy dose of agrax earthshade (brown wash) on everything though, just to give them a bit of grit and some texture

Ya it is one of my favourite models....it is just so amazingly knarled and awesome

Ya not many Skaven blogs (not for ages at least) I just hope people enjoy it and thanks I am really happy with the way it turned out. Although a few things I need to touch up.

Thanks! I actually do use agrax earthshade on 90% of the models. Some of the larger ones like the Hellpit Abomination just didn't show the shades (I used a different skin technique for that one though).

I finished putting together 20 stormvermin together and will be putting together 40 Plague monks.
Finished painting a total of 50 clanrats I will get them up here soon and will be painting a Warplightning Cannon again.

What is next to buy would be 20 night runner/gutter runners, 40+ clanrats/slaves, 20 stormvermin, Plague furnace and then some bits and bops like an assassin

Well I haven't posted in a while but I haven't got much painted sadly. I have finished one of my 2 warp lightning cannons and I will post that up here shortly. The other is still in its box.

I am going to out together another 20 plague monks and then I will take a picture of everything I have for skaven on my board so that you guys can see what I have. Its about 3500 as a solid runable army.

I have 40 more clanrats/slaves in the mail and will he ordering another hellpit abomination and 20 night runner that I am going to convert into 6 jezzails and the rest gutter runners (possibly an assassin if I whip out the greenstuff)

Update:
I am working on painting up my stormvermin unit so depending how that goes might get some pictures of that unit (or a few of them) up in the next few days.

Also finished a grey seer from the screaming bell/plague furnace kit and put him on foot. Not to happy with how he turned out (don't like the cloth plus I rushed it a bit)

With the priest I still have to do the eyes, highlight the bones teeth and cloth and warpstone and basically highlight everything lol
