As most of you know, Beasts of War are becoming the Kings of War for their KoW Week . They just released a new video on the Kingdoms of Men.

It suddenly made me realize how amazing it would be to use the Hail Ceasar! miniatures to stage a massive Roman VS Orc battle!

I was wondering if anyone currently used variant models for a Kingdoms of Men army, and what they used? Or what would you like to use/think would be cool? And does anyone one have pictures of a historic force taking on a fantasy force??

I'm not making these armies just for KoW, but I'm sure they will work fine for it:

Greeks, using Immortal Hoplites. WGF Hoplites are better if you want to use swords and boards, or if you want to make lots of plastic heroes, as the kits are much more versatile. Immortal's hoplites came out earlier, and they go together quickly, so they form the core of my sort-of-abandoned Greek fantasy army.

Fantasy Chinese: I am using WGF's Samurai and Ashigaru with some helmet changes (a little cutting and the addition of pom-poms/tassels) and some weapon swaps to create a sort of fantasy Asian army, such as one might see in books like The Initiate Brother (an excellent book). I also bought some Flying General Workshop heroes and plan to get metal Perry Koreans for my elite. Some Reaper and Wyrd minis will be thrown in for characters. I can't wait until Fireforge releases their plastic Mongols.

Perry WOTR minis. I have decided that the best way for me to get excited about these guys is to use the French Carabiniers (with some weapon swaps) as knights and use the spare Carabinier heads on the WOTR plastic infantry, since those kits are fairly boring to me. I'll try to post some pictures when I dig them out of cold storage and give it a chance.

@Carlos13, Have you seen Reaper's Jade Regent or Wyrd's Izamu the Armor? They are both about Ogre sized.

I had never heard about WGF before, great tip! I love their modular weapon/arm set-up - the one complaint I have about Hail Ceasar! imperial legions is that there aren't enough weapons to do an all-gladius force; thanks for the tip!

The Veteran box come with enough gladius arms for the whole lot.

Plus, right now the Warlord store is selling individual sprues half price, perfect time to pick up 'bitz' http://www.warlordgames.com/store/hail-caesar/hail-caesar-armoury.html?troop_type=200

Finally, my Romans are being based so that I can switch between KoW and Hail Caesar.

WGF models vary in quality so its worth doing a google to see if you like them before purchasing them. They work out very cheap all in all though.

For example http://wargamesfactory.com/webstore/might-of-rome/caesars-legions-box-set are not the best sculpts in the world but are only $30 for 48 models.

WGF's romans are terrible. But their mounted romans are pretty good.

And I really need to order a ton of Black Hat's Chinese.

I'm doing the same sort of thing with all of the Clan War minis I've been sitting on for the last 20 years or so, supplemented with some minis from Kingsford and Kensei.

If you have made any headway with it JoshInJapan I would love to see where you have got to so far. I am currently too ill to make a whole lot of headway with mine so seeing others would be a great inspiration.

What do you think of Kingsford minis btw? Anygood? I have avoided them because when considering shipping its far easier to get them from perry or tag.

They are pretty good. If i was making a Chinese army I would grab a few.

Also if your army is more fantasy style

If I can get a group going into this using their WHFB models to try the ruleset out and like it, I was thinking of going for a Greek or Japanese force with Mythological beast and creatures they would have in their army.

I would like the idea of Minotaurs crashing through the enemy lines as a Greek Phalanx moves in for the kill.

My hobby blog. Mainly focuses on Warmahordes/Infinity/Nercomunda and Kill Team, but I do other things as well.

I like the idea of a Greek Mythology list. Lots of options for greek troops and the range of creatures in Greek Mythology opens up a lot of possibilities. Pretty sure the nature list has miniators you could take as allies.

Oh man, I just imagined an Aesir battle! Viking human kingdom, supported by the greater Aesir (Thor? Odin? Maybe Tyr) who could pull stats from the Basilian list vs abyssal dwarfs supported by ice giants (pulled from the ogre list)! That would be pretty epic!

Sweet tip, thanks! I think I might pick this up and some dwarves - I think Romans would appreciate dwarven metalwork!

Ok, truly those are some EPIC dwarves!!! To be honest, I'm a bigger fan of the Mantic-style dwarf sculpts and I always prefer plastic to metal - but 1) they are amazing and 2) I can't believe your skill to pull those out of the interwebs on command! LOL the more I look at them the more I love Dwarves in Lor. Seg.

Those Dwarf Wars models are NOT scaled well to KoW or GW.. I have a couple for use as "heroes" in my old Dwarf army for WHFB, and they tower over the GW models.

I will attempt to get pics, but meanwhile, you may be interested to know that those are 25mm square bases they are on..

I like the Goblins a lot, I own 250+ of them.

And actually my buddy liked them enough that he plunked down $200 to start a Goblin army. (he also likes the new Trolls too, which I can't stand)

Individually, Mantic goblins aren't very good. That said, they aren't meant to be used individually. In a block of 20, at tabletop distances, they look just fine. The metal personalities are quite nice, I think, and anyone who dislikes the trolls is sadly mistaken.

Yeah if they had of lived up to the concept art, they would have been brilliant.

I am going to use the torso's and arms of mine, and have a go at scratch sculpting some legs and heads for them, as well as additional pieces of armour for them. Don't know how I will do, but I am aiming to make them look like the Troll of the Behemoth from the Rackham miniatures line.

Try reaper troll legs (they are Bones now, after all), or maybe even GW savage Orc legs. Those are possible, although a bit pricy of a conversion.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Reaper Bones bugbear or gnoll legs maybe?

But yeah Mantic goblins look excellent in giant hordes. GW goblins are nicely sculpted but I honestly prefer the look of Mantic's (i love their heads and noses, very Jim Henson style)

Nah I think I will just cut the legs and loincloth off the trolls, round out the area and sculpt something completely new to go underneath. I can cast things in resin so I think if I make enough nice looking bits I will just whip up a few batches and go with that.

As for goblins, I have a ton of the LotR ones which I think I will pressgang into service to use as goblins. Don't mind basing them up in large units, should be fun.
