Subject: Warhammer 30k - Imperial army rumour (forgeworld) (Updated 6th Nov 13)

From Faeit212
"Imperial Guard becomes a Imperial Army Great Crusade / Horus Heresy Suppliment." (Sic)
To be taken with a grain of salt, this makes me very excited.
Update:
Imperial Guard 30k won't be released in the form of a supplement, but rules will be given for loyalist and traitor armies;

Is their anything more then that? At gamesday uk forgeworld said imperial army was on the do due list...
A rumor saying they are on the todo list is kinda redundent.

So are you saying that the official Guard Codex will be able to be used in 30k games? Or are you saying Forgeworld are working on Imperial Army rules?

It's probably that FW is working on an Imperial Army supplement. Latest IA book mentions Astartes Crusade armies, Imperial Army, Mechanicum and some sort of Rogue Trader force.

In all fairness, with the existing knowledge and the increasing mentions of rogue trader forces an imperial army in the massacre book it was going to be a no brainer that this was going to happen

In fairness it probably could be, for the most part at least. They would miss out on Beastmen, Landspeeders and Landraiders though.
Given that the 'standard' personal weapon for the IG is the M36 lasgun (which didn't exist during the Heresy) I wonder if the Imperial army will have something a little more creative.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.
-Leman Russ, Meditations on Imperial Command book XVI (AKA the RT era White Dwarf Commpendium).
Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

You need to read massacre - they said they were doing the imperial army at the HH weekender in may this year.

I'm genuinely excited at the prospect of IA being included in the Horus Heresy books. Army Rhinos and Predators, hopefully some old-school-inspired landspeeders and jetbikes. Abhumans - some cool Ratling and Ogryn models as well as a return of Imperial Beastmen and maybe even a unit of Squats (see how they sell as part of HH, and if it's positive, they can make more - a la Fimir and Chaos Dwarfs).

Definitely watching this. I would love an excuse to get Forgeworld IG since I'm not overly fond of Elysiums or DKOK.

Very interested, especially if they make an IG list that has balanced artillery (which IMO it doesn't right now)

If Forgeworld did an actual Imperial Army list with Beastmen and Squat units, imagine the shitstorm it would create.

I have heard no rumors before this.

Very little information, but it implies a new Codex from forgeworld, not being able to use 40k in 30k.

My understanding is that in one of the many Horus Heresy books, the Imperial Army will be slowly introduced, just like the Adeptus Mechanicus in the first two books.

Because "OMFGWTFBBQ SQUATS!", probably. Who knows really? Anyway, Squats? No. Beastman? Maybe. That could work in the context of 30k. I do hope they use the Blanche style designs for the Imperial Army and that they aren't just sci-fi versions of various historical infantry like all the other Guard types.

Yeah, doesn't make a lot of sense. CDs and Fimir were gone, (Fimir essentially deleted from history, like Zoats) and FW were able to bring them back without bad feelings. The opposite, in fact... Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm hoping they go back to the RT-era archetypes. No reason they can't have a squad worth of Squats mixed in there to see how well they sell as a sub-race of the IA.

Actually you're right - the Chaos Dwarves are an interesting comparison; all but abandoned by GW proper (with the exception of the Hell Cannon), but make into a sizeable force via Forge World.
I don't think they'd undertake such an... undertaking... whilst in the middle of doing the Horus Heresy, but it's something they could do later.

That's why I'm thinking (hoping, really) for just a single troops entry within the Horus Heresy 30k Imperial Army List for "Squat Ironforge Squad" (or whatever) that could be used as a litmus test to see if there's enough interest out there for that sort of thing.
If they put up a single squad which starts selling very well, then FW may see them as something potentially worth expanding on within the ongoing HH-Era Imperial Army Lists or the Imperial Armour Books.

The squats are back in the fluff, but the idea of them ever realy being that independent from the empire isn't really their any more. It seems they were brought into compliance just like any other human world.

I guess there was only a matter of time until squats made it in to this thread.
I am more interested in seeing the command structure layed out for 30k. How HQs are structured, as I don't think there will be a CCS

Why? Given that the IG structure is closely linked to modern military formations I don't see why the IA would have a different organisation; I see no reason why the CCS would disappear. I can see a more limited role for Commissars though.

Sure, but they could easily have their own regiments and unique units. But that's still a long way off and too much to hope for at present...
