Some cool pulp type mini's here lots of character, ghostbusters are awesome. The jugular stuff is painted really well, I like the skin tone, I always have trouble getting good skin.

Thanks! The skin was easier to do on the larger models... less definition was needed via painting as the model has enough of that sculpted in. In the gladiator's case it is sculpted in a very basic way, but still... the model has deep detail.

I've got a couple of Whos in the painting queue that may look like Jon Pertwee and Peter Capaldi. There are also some UNIT soldiers for when they need a bit of backup

This morning's update is full of Zombicide characters. These were near the endgoal, so I'm not overly happy with the faces on some of these. I'd like to say I'll go back one day and fix them, but we all know that isn't going to happen. Not with a large, growing pile of plastics for other projects.

Bobby, the Banana-man. Bobby was working at Murray & Son's, the veg shop when the zombie outbreak occurred. Sadly the suit was quite cheap and the zip broke.. so he's stuck in there!

Sean

Basil

This one is the absolutely not Austin Powers from the second ZOmbicide Games Night set

If anyone wants one, I have three pairs (including card) left for trade

To go with the survivors, I repainted one of the abominations to make it stand out in the crowd a bit more

This was the Frother's Charity model from last year. Tank girl is TINY! She was sculpted by Kev at Hasslefree and is forming the base of one of his other characters for general release later I believe.

So here's a question for you all... I've just caved and bought some new GW kits to carry on with Inquisitor Gale and her retinue. Where should I start posting these updates?

This thread seems a bit too random and wasn't meant to be for a specific project, but is resurrecting the old IG thread the right thing to do? It is over 2 years since I last posted into it... it might be nice to start from scratch with new ideas

Nice painting. The pinstripe suit is great.

What is that dog model next to the tank girl? Love it

The figure standing next to Tank Girl is Booga, her boyfriend and a mutant kangaroo.
The doll on her base is Camp Koala, a gay stuffed koala toy. Yeah, I don't know either... the guys that write Tank Girl are a bit weird like that

I did do some sci-fi stuff in amongst all the pulp and horror bits. One of the few models from the Sedition Wars kickstarter that I liked

This one will be used as a Bonehead, with the smaller suits of powered armour the rest of the Ogryn squad. Obviously these (when finished) will be O.G.R.Y.N suits instead.

I need some advice and colour guidance for the Tin Woodsman.

I want to paint the flying monkeys in such a way that they stand out from the model, but do not draw the eye away from the main character. I've tried a pale brown/dark sandy colour, but they do not really look all that good. I don't want black/grey as that gets too close to the metal tones and I don't want to typical purples of Dark Eldar as that detracts from the monkey-ness.

The only other option I can think of is a more orang-ey brown? Work is underway on making the heads a little bit more monkey like too. I'll try to get a photo later

That might work as it's not oh-my-god-BLUE and does tone into browns. Thanks! I shall give that a try tonight

Wow its all really great, especially tank girl. You really captured her look. I liked the naturalistic painting on the bolt action russians. Great work on the banana and also especially noticed basil fawlty.

I agree with whale about that blue, I would blend some terracotta into my blue to kill the BLUE! Always works a treat.

I havn't had a chance to try a blue one yet. I did add some more contrast to the brown one and he looks... ok so far. Possibly a bit too muted.

Thanks

I like the russians. There is enough contrast in them to make it interesting, but not so much it is unnatural or distracting.

To prove that some painting has happened recently, here's a really bad iphone snap of the Tin Man with all three Scourge-monkeys nearing completion.

I'm not happy with the heads on some of the scourges though... bare heads aren't at all ape like, the Crooked Dice gorilla heads just looked wrong and trying to sculpt a whole new monkey-like head also didn't look right... Looks like he's going on hiatus again for a bit while I work out how to fix the heads.

I've done one brown, one turquoise and one is blue-ish.

There is also now a dedicated =I= thread: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/650526.page

On a completely different note, today saw one of those one in a million chances in a charity shop... Heroquest for £5! The only bits missing are the monster cards (I have scans of those somewhere anyway), one special dice and the gargoyle. In their place though is almost everything from the Kellar's keep expansion too.

So. Feebay, trade or wife's wrath when I keep it?

Waa, waa, waa too busy waa, waa, waa.

Anyway. You've not all been forgotten and nor has the painting table. The last few months have mostly revolved around tidying the living heck out of the house and selling lots of gaming bits that I don't use/want any more including finally giving up on Sedition wars and finding someone that actually wanted it. At least I got *some* of the money back for that one... The rest may make it over to the swapshop area soon.

In terms of painting, I've been doing a few bits and pieces for 7TV, Sharpe Practice and Strange Aeons. The joy of games flexible enough to use anything

I'm in the process of reading all the Sharpe books at the moment. The fact that I've not ever read them, despite being a massive fan of the tv series is mindboggling, but it has been inspirational so I picked up some British infantry to try as I've also never ventured into Napoleonic gaming. At the rate it has taken me to do these 5, I think I'll stick to Sharpe Practice, which only needs about 20-30 per side! These still need a little bit more work on them to tidy up a bit, especially around the faces and straps. Sooo many straps!

As I've got absolutely no need for the full box, I decided I could use some along with some leftover viking plastics to make some generic ghosts for... whatever. I can easily grow this little group with any other historicals that I have spare to make larger flock

Last, but not least, are some Cylons for 7TV

Speaking of discourse, rather than continue to hijack the Lovecraftian Painting thread here are some more pictures of the Qu-Sh-Ug from Pure Evil Miniatures. The model comes with loads of tentacles designed to come out of it's mouth in a very Mignola fashion, but I wanted to try making one into a tail instead. This was a kickstarter late last year that can now be bought on ebay from PureEvil Miniatures.

For a sense of scale...

I was actually was able to snag one of these minis even though the Kickstarter is well over - contacted the seller on ebay and he put a few up for me

Could you tell me what base size it is sitting on in your pictures? I am hoping that is 40mm (rather than larger).

Excellent paint job by the way, your pics are really close to the top when searching Google images, and the only non-official painted ones that I have found!

Oh god, was the last update really October?!

Thanks for letting me know about the Qu-Sh-Ug on google, I didn't know that

Yes, the base size is 40mm

As a prize for reminding me I really need to update this thread, we'll have an update to celebrate. Back in December I started the yearly blogger painting challenge to clear the lead/plastic mountain a bit. So lets start at the beginning shall we?

One of my main aims for this year's challenge is to paint up all of the Dungeon Saga models from the kickstarter... or at least the ones I'm willing to use as I really don't like the orcs and goblins.

Before the challenge started I managed to get all the furniture done. You can see some samples here

The first batch were some of the undead. The models are... ok? Not great, but usable. I think eventually pretty much all of the DS monsters will be replaced with better ones over time, but for now....

Some more updates form the Dungeon Saga paint-a-thon

The Mantic models have some really nice designs, but... like most things Mantic... the models aren't the best in the world. The plastics are smaller than the Dungeon Saga resins, they bend and there are some mold lines that are a pain to get rid of for some reason. It is painting things like these that make me appreciate that maybe it is worth spending that extra cash to get GW figures instead. This is certainly true of the Orcs... if anyone is interested in trading something WFB for those, PM me and we can sort something out I'm sure.

Tomorrow I'll show some more DS bits and pieces

Thanks. The eyes were an attempt to make the look less...boring

I do have to admit that these aren't the best paint jobs either. They were an attempt at seeing what the Army Painter dips were like. I ended up doing as much, if not more painting on these than if I'd used standard washes... plus I had to wait a day after doing the dip before I could carry on. I think I'll be sticking to acrylic washes in the future

So, the update for this week is a small force of Vikings for Saga that I've been painting recently. These are a combination of Gripping Beast plastics and metals from Black Tree Designs that I was given in a Blogger Secret Santa swap. I have some of the GB metals as well, but they are much bigger than their plastics. Thankfully the BTD models are perfectly sized and really characterful. The squads are colour coded for ease of use on the field.

First up is the command stand made of GB plastics

Next are a group of 4 hearthguard, an elite unit in Saga terms. these are all BTD vikings

Then we have two more Hearthguard units that will be fielded together as one 8 man unt. Some of these are plastic, others are the metals. They fit together really nicely.

And one squad of warriors; this group is entirely Black Tree's metal models

And here is a nice little group shot

I've a set of plastic spearmen in the painting queue to add another squad to the force, but there are plenty of other items kicking around that are likely to surface first. Originally the vikings were intended solely for Saga, but I got involved in a Frostgrave painting challenge recently and figured that these guys could pull double duty as a Frostgrave warband too. To make them more useful, I picked up a couple of Red Box wizards to use as a norse wizard and his apprentice. They are absolutely gorgeous figures that pretty much painted themselves.
