Hello and welcome to my hobby blog here on Dakka,

I finally found the time, courage and muse to present my creations to this community but first maybe start with some words to my person.

About me
I started with wargaming and painting only a little more than a year ago. Since this time I tested a lot of things and - in my eyes - leanred a lot as well.
My initial start with the hobby was WH40K since two friends asked me if I'd liked to join them in their games. In fact I was forced to lead the orc army of one of the against the tyranids of the other one.

Well my time is precious so I did not have that many games since this first one, but at least a few. If you'd ask my to classify maself, I would call me more of a painter and a tinker than a gamer actually. ...and my work progress is quite chaotic. ;P

After getting addicted to those small plastic figures and the the smell of the glue I looked around at other products and soon fell in love with Infinity by Corvus Belli as well.
But better switch to my list of current projects.

My projects

As said I started with WH40K (Tau) which "ate" about the half of my hobby time last year with the other half shared by my Ariadna, terrain building and different side projects.

Main projects in 2013
  • My Tau army (gallery links: Tau - Kroot)

  • Ariadna faction from Infinity (gallery link)

  • Side projects
  • Space Marines (mainly Dark Vengeance) (gallery link)

  • some terrain building (gallery link)

  • start of ALEPH faction (Infinity) (gallery link)

  • Godslayer Nordgaard (gallery link)

  • misc fantasy miniatures (e.g. old Armalion minis) (gallery link)

  • With a big 2vs2 Apocalypse match a few days back I now did push WH40K to the side and will try to focus on smaller systems.
WH40K is nice but since I travel a lot and my storage space is limited I recognized that I like skirmishers even more. As well there are some very interesting rules and minis out there which are not made by "big bad GW" ;P

    Main projects for 2014 (planned)
  • Infinity; mainly Ariadna and a little bit ALEPH

  • Godslayer Nordgaard (long term perhaps a second faction)

  • Dystopian Legions; Federated States of America

  • Eden; faction not fixed, yet.

  • more terrain building

  • Side projects
  • a little bit of Tau maybe (Presumably there will be another Apo match between me and my friends end of 2014 or beginning of 2015)

  • more work on Space Marines custom chapter (low chance, but can change quickly)

  • OK maybe I should switch to some pictures now.
Let's start with some backlog first, before getting to the current more current activities. Those later ones will as well come up with WIP shots to be more suitable for a P&M blog.

    My finished Tau
The first Tau I painted have been some Fire Warriors and from today's point of view I have to rework the a little bit so I will not show them here ... now.
But I worked on a few other minis which are showable.

For Ethereal with its reworked painting from not so long ago. First version was ... well ... lacking experience.

I think my Longstrike got pretty good as well. Although the color adjustment on the picture is a little faulty.
Again lessons I learned but in this case on photographing. Esspecially concerning "white value correction".

My Sniper Drones took a lot of time because of the twisted Finecast parts... The reason why I haven't bought Kroot Hounds or Vespids till now.

When the new Tau codex was released I worked on some modified Kroot as well (for sniper ammo) but so far only one of them got painted (and was abused for a NMM experiment )

And the one I'm really proud of is my kitbashed/converted Fireblade:

It's made of parts from Fire Warriors and XV25s with a Space Marine torso plus some plasticard and green stuff.
I even have two WIP shots available of him.

    Additional painted Tau:

    Tau - Work in progress

Several other Tau and Kroot are stranded in WIP status on my desk.

For example a team of XV88s. Build and magnetized for the above mentioned Apo match.

Or the Kroot Shaper I started building several weeks ago.

and the "Counts as Darkstrider" I have converted on basis of a Pathfinder Shas'ui from the new plastic box

as well as two customized XV8 commanders and a new team of Fire Warriors

For the Fire Warriors I plan to do small small additions (maybe on the backpacks) to differ them from the older standard ones. Something like a MK2 version (next generation equipment).

For some of these character modells I even wrote a little bit of story backgroud, which can be found in my Wordpress blog, but it's all in German.
Maybe some day I'll find the time to translate them.

Oh, almost forgot the biggest baby amongst my Tau: the XV104 Riptide.

I' ve worked on it for some time now but since painting yellow can by quite frustrating I did not have a lot of progress lately. Nevertheless it's in playable status and served it's purpose already (Predator side armor does not like it's Ion Accelerator ^^)

Unfortunatelly while transporting the Riptide some antennas on the back broke and I'll have to work on a replacement now.

Space Marines - Custom chapter a.k.a "Suncaller"

When I began with 40K I knew I wanted some Space Marines a alternative to my Tau but without the bigger background knowledge and available rules options I couldn't decide on a existing chapter.
Thus my idea came up to create a custom chapter and design it and it's minis in a way that I could - ruleswise - play any existing chapter with it.
Considering the style I always liked the Space Wolves and as well got a lot of inspiration from the Ravenborn by Mastiff.

So far I justed trained painting on some of the Dark Vengeance minis like Tumriel (see above) and worked on a fex other kitbashed/converted modells

    like a Wolf Priest

    or some Scouts.

Chances are not particular big but existing that more of such models can be found here in the future.

    Infinity - Ariadna and ALEPH

My Squad of painted Ariadna minis has well grown over the last year. Above you can see the linup from July 2013.

Since then a few more have been added

as well as a little paint schema experiment with ALEPH

Well, as you might have guessed, there are a bunch of "work in progress" modells as well.

    Godslayer - Nordgaard

The Nordgaard of Godslayer is one of my younger projects which will hopefully get a lot of focus this year.
For those of you who might have had a look at it already, I can clearly recommend it. The rules are nice and the minis are beautifull. Just the studio paintjobs (or their photos) can be a bit awfull so con't get discouraged by those.

So far I just managed to paint three of my modells. Two warloards and a team leader.

The Runegate Keeper (Warlord of the Guild sub.faction). My favourite and I tried a lot of new things on it's base.

The Warsmith (Warlord of the Clan sub-faction). The first Godslayer mini I painted (and as far as I remember the first where I used cork for basing)

And last but not least the team leader of the Fjell Warriors (standard troops of Clan sub-faction). Another beauty although the snow did not turn out the way I planned it.

Waiting on my desk for further treatment: more Fjell Warriors, Einherjar unit (troops for Guild sub-faction) and a Fjellgangr.

Dystopian Legions - Federated States of America

OK, almost finished ... for today ... I promise. ;P

My newest project are the "Federated States of America" from Dystopian Legions.
I bought the starter set of a friend, assembled all the contianed minis so far I am still waiting for the best idea concerning basing theme and painting schema.

There we have the Federated Infantrymen a Mainstay Section (=Troops) with ther sergeant and a heavy weapon specialist attached.

    And some veterans: Wilderness Section

And for sure a commander (right one) and Dr Samuel R. Orlington (left), a character model.

I must say I really like the style of those minis and can't wait to continue to work on them.

    OK. Enough written.
I hope you like what I did show to you and it yould be nice to get some feedback on my creations and maybe some gallery votes.
I will try to write some regular updates here but maybe they will not effectively be that regular.

And to close this posting one of my misc fantasy minis (it's from Reaper) which is as well one of my personal favorites:

    Thanks HoeJarris.

I used my remaining vacation time to work on some Dystopian Legion models and a little bit on Infinity.

Did build a pair of Treadbikes for my FSA force.

They come with clear acrylic bases and I'm still thinking if I should put them on 40K bike bases instead.
Does somebody now Dystopian Legions well enough to know if there's something against it in the rules? Haven't been able to read them any further myself.

I worked on the basing on some of my minis as well. For example the lieutenant of my FSA.

Although the Federated States Arny is described as fast and mobile couldn't helb but build a static trench-like basing.
So far it looks quite good, but let's wait till some are painted.

Didn't have a very good idea for Dr Orlington so - although he's a character modell and deserves something special - his base got pretty simple.
Well there will be a little pool of warter at his feet (and presumably some mud on his trousers)

HMG Section on the other hand recieved a little more love. (not 100% finished. Maybe 95% ;P)

Last DL minis today have been two forward observers (one blister).
They can be used as additions for Federal Infantrymen and Armored Infantry and come with a nasty sounding mortar strike to assist their section.
Since they come on a 30mm base there's not much room to work with and thus again wuite simple basing.
Like with the gun section the left observer is still missing the nails on the wood planks. The lieutenant and the doctor already got them.

And last but not least I adopted a little puppy to fetch my newspaper in the morning.
Did some green stuff work on his base/foot to hide the natural stone there. Somehow it did not fit to the urban base by MAS. ^^

If you like some of my work, please leave a comment. Thanks.

Lots of very nicely painted minis, I like blogs with mixed game systems helps keep it more interesting.

I look forward to seeing more of your work especially your new puppy.

Thanks GiraffeX. I'm just afraid it may take some time till "puppy" meets paint.

Did some expertimental terrain building today.
Came up with the idea when I browsed the webshop of Miniature Scenery and started building without making big or detailed plans.
    Still a quite early WIP.

But now: Have a good night.

OK, busy working week so far but I was able to have at least some progress on my watertower (and prime some of my latest bases).

Slowly I can see where this experiment will be going.

Nice build, and good care of details, will keep an eye on this.

Might I suggest reinforcing the tank with some strips of card too? That way you could break the larger surfeces and bring it further appart from its former can self.

And weathering, of course, there's never too much of that...

Thanks. I'm glad you like it.

Yes, the upper part is far from finished.
The tank will get additional reinforcement, riveting, a hatch on top, a ladder and maybe some other details. Just didn't have the time by now.

Style shall by similar to this one. Maybe with less intense weathering.

OK, I did not have that much time the last two days to work on my tower, but it got at least a few more details.

    Please click for bigger images.

At present the water tower is still in pieces and I think I will keep it that way and work on some other modules in the future.
I just have to figure out a good mechanism to connect the biog lower and upper part. Maybe I can find some cheap magnets somewhere.

As well, after getting this far with it, I'm unsure if I should go for a flat top with a hatch or if I should build a cone shaped roof like this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:NewYorkCityWaterTower.JPG
    Any opinions?

Besides the terrain piece unfortunatelly no progress on my minis. But I got a "small" supply drop for my FSA.

Below you can find this weekend's progress on my tower.
I decides to go for a roof but I did build it with enough space for most figures on a 25mm round base.
On the main platform even most 40mm bases should find enough space.

    Please click for bigger images.

    Next step: painting.
Well, let's see when I find enough time.

I think it is finally time to come out of the dark shadows of lurking this thread...

that tower looks very good... highly detailed and with some nice features like the upper door, that is something I really like!

one thing I am marvelling over...the legs of the tower... how did you make these? what is their footprint? they look kinda hexshaped to me???...

and...some very cool dystopian stuff here too!!!...who wouldn´t envy you for these^^

    cheers, vik

    Thanks for the compliments, Vic.

The legs are simple, square-shaped wood pieces with 10x10mm width.
If you like more detailed progress descriptions, you could check this blog post I did write yesterday:
Original German version / Goggle Translate English version
I did not link it here, because it's in German but maybe the Google Translate version is OK for other people as well.

One of the day 2 progress pictures gives quite a good view on the lower constrcutions I think.

Thanks again to both of you.

This weekend I finally had some time to start with the painting (supported by the first season of "Once Upon A Time").
I'm not sure if I should keep the lower half all blue. Maybe I switch some parts to grey.
Excluding the weathering the upper half is quite finished. On the other hand as far as I know myself this could change real quick once I get a new idea. ^^

    I started another side project:

My original plan was to work on this last year. It should have been a christmas present to a colleague and a good friend who did support me a lot on my writing ambitions.
Well since last year was far to busy it will become a birthday, christmas or whatever present this year.
Basis is a Harbinger of Mennoth from Warmachine. Wings and shield arm come from a Deva Angel from Reaper Minis.
I still have to decide on the detailed basing elements and have to find a good material for the column pieces. Those on the picture are make of simple gypsum which is not hard/durable enough to hold the figure.

    OK, enough for today.

OK, I did not have much time for the hobby last week, but I've got at least a small update.

Yes, it looks better with grey legs. Thanks for the advice, Brother SRM.
But I wanted to keep at least some blue to match the theme of the top.
Standard painting should be finished now. Next step weatthering.

    Hello there,

I've got a few busy working day behind but nevertheless found a little bit of time to work on some of my minis.
Unfortunately still no news on the tower.

Matthew McConaughey ... well I mean Roger van Zant is receiving some of my time. Finally I must say, cause he already collected some dust.
If the odds are on his side, he should get finshed at the weekend.

His colleague of the USAridana forces (Foxtrot Ranger with light grenade launcher) has not seen that much color so far but maybe I can finish him at the weekend as well.

Third mini is a lady from the Convoy faction of Eden. Her name is "Gretchen" and she comes with a little ape companion named "Louie" (which is so far just primed).
I'm not 100% sure if I should stay wiht the colors I've chosen so far. But well, it's my first mini from Eden. I think I'll just go on and see what the progress might bring.

    Good evening,

I'd like to give you a quick overview on my current projects.
Lots and lots of WIPs on my desk with all the good intentions to make some progress an most of them.

    Infinity

There are these two Ariadnian guys I'm trying to paint at present

but I also worked on the basing a a bunch of other ones.
    Just a "few"

Closer looks to the basing. Mainly done with PVA and sand but with addition of some bigger stones and some used and dried tea.

And those tow ALEPH ladys would like some "love" as well.

    Godslayer

Since I was already working on the Ariadna bases I did the same on the ones of my Nordgaard Fjell Warriors. Just with the additon of a good portion of cork.

    Eden

Gretchen and Louie from Eden (Convoy) still need some work, too. Maybe something I can do this weekend.

    Dystopian Legions

And Dr Orlington and his companion are still a little to grey as well. ^^

    Terrain Building

In addition I worked on some simple, modular walls the last weeks.

Easy to build. YOu just need some cork, glue and a few other materials.
This is the tutorial I modified slightly for my walls.
    And

I did integrate a small gimmick.

    WH40K

Not much activity on 40K on my side at present. But there was still a little time to work on a color test scheme (very early stage)

An check for some conversion meterial for future Ethereals:

OK, I'll be back at my desk them.

    Thanks for the comment, Moltar.

I haven't had much time to paint so far this month but the last days I at least managed to work on the paint scheme test for my Space Marines. It's not 100% finished but - except for msiing basing - maybe 90-95% or so.
Besides that I'm working on a few Infinity modells and some of my dwarves from Godslayer. Unfortunatelly not much to show so far.
