It seems like somewhat old news, but I couldn't find a thread on it. Apologies if it's been covered elsewhere.

SPARTAN SUMMONS THE POWER OF ACHTUNG! CTHULHU

Spartan Games and Modiphius Entertainment announce the Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish Game for 2014

Spartan Game’s Neil Fawcett and Modiphius’ Chris Birch recently met over a slap-up fish & chips supper and a pint of Somerset cider and discovered they had a few things in common. Talking about cool miniatures and game projects ‘til the cows literally came home to the farm next door, the two soon realised that they had to turn at least some of those crazy ideas into a reality.
So, the first project out of this rather dangerous meeting of minds is the Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish Game, to be launched in 2014. Building on the massive range of Cthulhu creatures, Allied Investigators and Nazi Villains funded by the Achtung! Cthulhu Kickstarter, Spartan Games will launch a full-blown skirmish game line under license from Modiphius Entertainment.

“If they had indeed once been human, little remained of their origins now.
Viscous, membraneous flesh undulated beneath their robes. Grotesqhue digits grapsed with obscene, boneless dexterity and the twisted tentacles that formed the face were crowned with a single, unblinking eye”.
The Achtung! Cthulhu Skirmish Game will utilise a variation of the fast-paced, action-packed rules used in Spartan’s Dystopian Legions game, and plans for the range include starter sets, faction sets, hero sets, large creature sets and experimental vehicles, as well as a full-colour stand alone rulebook.
“We [Spartan Games] have chewed over the idea of a WWII game for a couple of years now, but never had the all-important time to devote to creating the world. Then along came Chris and his enthusiasm, coupled with a fabulous game setting and some lovely miniatures. It didn’t take long to figure out what we could do together. I’m very excited by our plans for 2014,” explains Spartan Games Creative Director Neil Fawcett.

“Behind the hideous servitors that screeched and chittered towards us, a different creature approached. Formed from the officers that once led the men who had succumbed to the taint of that foul place, these new horrors exhorted their minions forward with vile guttural speech. Atop their pulsing, wet heads, their eyes gleamed with sadistic anticipation for the slaughter.”
The first range of 49 miniatures will be extended to include more Mythos creatures, Nazi Villains, Allied Heroes and strange experimental vehicles. Spartan plan to utilise their hugely popular laser-cut scenery line to add some stunning battlefield scenic accessories so that players can bring to life some of the stranger aspects of the Achtung! Cthulhu world, whilst Spartan’s high quality resins will allow some truly larger-than-life Cthulhu creatures and war machines to dominate the battlefield.

“They came, reeking and wet, armed with the scavenged chattels of their victims. in low guttural tones, they coordinated their attack in a vile and repellant imitation of the soldiers they now sought to slaughter.”

Watch out for more news from Spartan Games and Modiphius Entertainment coming soon!

This looked good back during the KS campaign and looks even better now!

I've a well known fondness and weakness for Weird War II, so I'll probably be picking this up when it is released!

it would be cool if they could figure a way to mesh this with dytopian legions or at least make it so they could share the models.

These scale with Dystopian Legions?!?

I don't see why they wouldn't. And going by model size vs base size of these I think they look like they do scale with Dystopian Legions.

That's not good news to me - I'd prefer that they not be in the oversized scale that Dystopian Legions uses.

Mostly because of the terrain issues it poses...never mind the vehicle scale issues.

although after thinking about it i think that the timeframe is wrong. legions is more civil war while achtung looks to be ww2... :(

I'm less worried about the timeframe setting than I am the actual size of the miniatures.

I'm hoping that they scale with existing "28mm" ranges as opposed to Dystopian Legions' "35mm" range, due to compatibility problems with existing 28mm terrain and WWII tanks and vehicles...

The current models are more like Bolt Action - interested to see what scale minis that they are doing for the new game..

If they're in line with Bolt Action, this means they won't go well along with heroic scaled 28mm models, as the Bolt Action stuff is in most cases a head shorter and less bulky than that.

The ones in the pictures look bigger than Bolt Action figures, I think? But that's assuming those bases are standard 30mm.

I have not got my camera with me or i'd post something as a comparison - might try to scan them

They are quite delicate in appearance compared to say GW or Mongoose but are very nice models.

here you go best I can do with tools at hand

Yeah, those look taller and at the very least a bit bulkier than Bolt Action minis.

Arise. Arise like the Great Cthulhu from the deep!

After a long period of quiet, news has started to appear about the Modiphius/Spartan Games skirmish game for Achtung! Cthulhu, which is good for those of us left hanging by SotR2. Writing is nearly finished and should be going out to playtesters in the next month. I've no idea about eventual release date, but I would imagine this year.

In the run up to it's release they have some more figures ready for launch over the coming months. July sees the release of 4 new blisters. These are sneak peek photos, not the final press photos, but have been cleared for preview

3 Black Sun Troopers

1 Deep One Reefbreaker

3 Badger's Commandoes
3 Pathfinder Warriors

These will be followed by a monthly release of box unit sets of 10 figures. The first planned sets are: 10x Servitors of Nyarlathotep, Deep Ones, Badger's Commandoes, Black Sun Troopers, Pathfinder Warriors and more to be announced. I would imagine this means that the boxes will be base squad sizes. Looking at the boxes, I would imagine the initial factions will be Black Sun (German faction trying to use mythos as a weapon) with the Servitors and troopers; Majestic (US anti-mythos forces), Section M (British anti-mythos forces) and a Deep One force. I would imagine Nachtwolfe (German weird science) will be another option pretty quickly as they seem to spend their time fighting Black Sun and the Allies in the available RPG background.

The original release of models was a bit random in scale, with some figures being tiny and others being nearly GW proportion (like the two figures above). I've been told that the intended scale for this is supposed to be the same as Bolt Action so that there are plenty of choices for standard infantry/tanks.

The miniatures look cool, but my inner Lovecraftian Purist is screaming as to why cultists of the Great Old Ones would have anything to do with Nazis.

Well, yeah, maybe not in a 'pure Lovecraft' setting - but this is Weird World War II, so it makes perfect sense!

It's been a while since I read the RPG Source Books but if I remember correctly the Black Sun faction is less cultists of the Great Old Ones working with Nazis but Nazi occultists trying to harness the power of the Great Old Ones into a weapon.

There is also a co-op boardgame set in the Achtung Cthulhu world in development called The Secret War which is being designed by Kevin Wilson (Arkham Horror, Descent: Journeys in the Dark, Android, and Sid Meier’s Civilization: the Board Game).

What Aeneades said. Sorry, it had been a long day yesterday...

Black Sun is a secret occult society secretly working from within the SS. They utilise magic and magical artefacts that they find in order to complete Germany's rise to power. Their name is feared and mistrusted within the Wehrmacht. Imagine these guys like the nazis in all the Indiana Jones films... they go out and try to find any ancient artifacts that can help them, including having portals to the Deamlands and temples set up to worship the Black Sun found in the Dreamlands. They adapt old rites and rituals, using them in modern ways, so we start to see mythos/human hybrids and magically enhanced soldiers. Sometimes Black Sun can be found working with Deep Ones (Heroes of the Sea adventure)

Nachtwolfe are a splinter group from Black Sun who are more interested in technological advances based upon ancient artifacts from the likes of Atlantis. They frequently clash with Black Sun as they believe they should have the right to research anything new before Black Sun crate it all up and store it away, or grind it up into powder to use in summonings (etc. etc.). No love is lost between these two. Nachtwolfe are more supersoldiers, advanced weaponry and scientific abominations such as corpse animation and mutation.

Section M and Majestic are two allied organisations that comprise of skilled agents who have expert knowledge of the weird. These may be academics or soldiers who have either come into contact with an artefact, or faced a terrifying creature and survived. Both have seconded military forces; the British have their commandos for example.

I don't know about starter sets, I would imagine they will do at some point as there is one for Dystopian Legions. If you want to do something like the scene at the start of Hellboy, you would only need a few Black Sun officers and some Section M/Majestic heroes to add to the Bolt Action starter set and you're good to go. Of course, there are all sorts of weird and wonderful things that might appear, like a Mi-Go expeditionary force that has learnt new tricks from watching Nachtwolfe and have taken to creating armoured Mi-Go...

Wasn't overly keen on what I read of the Dystopian Legions rules, so I did a supplement for Bolt Action using these models. Please find attached. C&C very welcome.
