I never know what to make of this game... some of the aesthetics are awesome, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of consistency with some factions. It's also rather expensive and doesn't seem to get much play... but I love a lot of the models! A bit of a quandry... which has kept me from getting into it so far.

Is there scale the same size as GW, cause that first one could fit in with an Escher gang.

I've been wanting to pick up some of those Aztec looking robot monster things.

Problem is buying into another game that I have to learn the rules to, and then have to convince everyone else to start playing too.

I'll probably buy some for the hell of it.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Similar enough, yes.

Scale can be all over the place, but I have used them extensively for =][=munda and Witchhunters, so you should be fine if you check or don't mind the occasional 7 foot woman.

I might pick up some of these minis to paint.

How popular is the game?

If it makes you feel any better, depending on the faction, the actual entry cost isn't very high at all. I bought my St. Luke 1000 point army for under $150. I put this together under the last edition, and haven't played in about a year (I managed to have my entire warband get glued into a single big block with an unfortunate Zap-a-gap accident and have not had the motivation to put it all back together.

My warband was:

1x St. Luke
2x Arenal
3x Stinger
1x Marionette
3x Strikes
3x Banes
3x Firestorms

To buy that now is $120.93 as per the Dark Age website, plust tax and S&H, if applicable. It actually builds out to a larger game than most people play. Honestly, from what I've seen of the new rules, I'd probably want to add a Bane Leader, Strike Leader, and maybe a Weaponsmith, which would be less than $30.00 total. At a recent tournament, a friend was very successful with a St. Luke list that was St. Luke, three Arsenals, three stingers, 3 banes & leader, and a mechanic. That warband is $104.00 plus S&H, and there's an extra Arsenal that comes in the blister.

The game gets a good bit of play in our area because the makers of the game are here in North-metro Atlanta. One of the more popular stores supports the game pretty well. Just last weekend, there was a tournament with 20 players.

My favorite part is that the game system is not needlessly complicated. The units have stat cards that have everything you need to know about the individual units; no absolute need to get a forcelist book unless you like the huge amounts of fluff it contains. People with actual rules interpretation authority with the company work the message boards to answer rules questions. They run an active tournament scene, and the have been monitoring tournament results and performances to help identify over- or under-powered units.

For people who recognize the game, it's the same company that does Zombicide.

Edit: Just for an example of the kind of support they give, here's a link to about a month ago when a player asked a rather long list of questions. Less than two hours later, the lead developer for Dark Age provides the answers:

This game is pretty awesome tbh. We stock the entire range for it in store and have probably close to 50 regular players. I would definitely consider it as it's price point to entry is quite low. As Saldiven said, you will get a full 750 force for about $100.

We have it on our online store if you want to check out the entire range. Just visit our Facebook page or webiste and click on the shopping cart.

The blazon looks amazing!

As far as current game play I can't comment but when I play tested the first 2 rule sets it was a lot of fun. Fast and brutal with a steep learning curve for some units.

The biggest thing I love about this range is that there is lots of cross over potential with other ranges. Need crazy S&M cultist types you've got the skarrd, unusual ninja/assassins - forsaken strike's, and the forsaken contradiction is one of the best priest models around.

Well, Contradiction is BIG. Like damned near 54mm. Still, a nice model, but man, I was surprised when I pulled it out of the box!

And your flag always throws me off . Just checked the site, the store is in Georgia, although I think I remember your saying you are Irish yourself . 50 players is really impressive! I don't think the store I frequent has 50 players for any game; even the big ones.

Yeah I'm Irish but I live in Atlanta. Atlanta has a gigantic gamer community, and we've been lucky to have probably the biggest following at gigabites. It helps when the Dark Age creators are in your backyard as well

Yeah, Atlanta was voted the number one best city for nerds by Movoto a few years ago; it actually made national news and was carried by CBS, etc.. They based the judgement on things like per capita number of comic book stores, gaming stores, video game stores, computer stores, museums, LARPing groups, and the number of gaming/comic/scifi/fantasy type conventions held in the area each year.

So, it's not surprising that Atlanta has a pretty vibrant gaming community, especially on the North side of town, which is a little more affluent, as well.

What is the scale of the T-800? I'd like three of those for the mech faction I have for the superheros stuff I have going on.....

One blonde, one brunette, one red head... Maybe get me one of those cyber assassins or that Pimp named... Superfly mini from Reaper as the ...leader....

The TB-13? They are normal human sized, about the same scale as an infinity model.

We have just picked up distribution of the range and so availability in the UK should improve. We are trying to get a demo table built for Salute and then to tour but Salute is very close so it might not be feasible.
