Looks like the good people at Center Stage Miniatures are moving ahead on a second batch of Tome of Horrors inspired classic D&Dish monsters. Old school, mostly metal, and sometimes very, very esoteric indeed

There's a couple of some pretty nifty old-school creatures in the initial assortment already, I'm sure any adventurer would rather go head to head with a horde of angry gnolls than the infamous disenchanter.

Looks like Day 2 pushed this one over the first 12k hurdle, and past the first stretch goal (Ice Golem and Ferrous Giant)

I'm not understanding the .... Torn conundrum. If they were funded, why are we looking at the other thread like it was a new thing or something?

Am I to understand that Centerstage is embedded in KS? Is that correct?

From a quick glance, it looks like this company just licensed Torn's IP and made some models, successfully fulfilling that small (4K) Kickstarter campaign last year.

They are a different company from Torn and just had that one collaboration; this and their prior Tome of Horrors project are not connected to the Torn folks in any way.

Unless I'm really missing something, there truly is nothing to see here regarding that! More of note, is that they're not yet done fulfilling the first Tome of Horrors campaign, although they say they it is 70% fulfilled, so well on their way.

First update is up. If they reach their goal by midnight, they'll add this guy for free to all $200+ pledges, and unlock him has a $5 addon.

He's an Orog, which IIRC means an Orc/Ogre hybrid in 1/2E D&D. Hence the pigsnout.

Is there an option for a la carte purchases besides at the 100 level?

I wouldn't mind cherry picking a figure or two. Not liking the choices given for the 25 dollar pledge (but that's just more my personal tastes than anything else).

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

I'm going in on this. I backed CSM's Demons and Devils KS, have received my minis and am really happy with them. And I feel satisfied with the progress being made on ToHI; we've seen a steady stream of greens and there are not that many sculpts left now.

I also backed (and received) my Demons and Devils. Overall pretty happy with them, however some of the sculpting choices weren't ideal. I would have liked to have a bunch of quasits, but the decision to have it carrying a book made it a 1 only purchase (same with the imp, the barbed devil sitting on a rock and the swimming hezrou). Troop minis should be relatively generic IMO. But that's a style choice, not a technical issue. The casts were good and clean, particularly their resin pieces. I may be in on this... its nice to see some old school D&D monsters that would never make it otherwise. I'm still waiting for Matt from CSM to fix my ToH 1 pledge manager though, which has been frustrating. But hell yes, I'm finally going to get a flumph.

Right, the completed CSM Torn World kickstarter was a small licensed line set in the same setting that the Torn Armor game is, but the two companies are not the same and the current troubles Torn Armor is having are not related to CSM. Some CSM miniatures were offered among the Torn Armor stretch goals, and Alyssa with Torn Armor has mentioned including those (along with the Reaper dragon) in the wave 1 limited fulfillment they (Torn Armor) are currently planning while the issues with the bulk of the miniatures get resolved.

I have a review of my opening of the CSM Torn World materials here: http://home.earthlink.net/~serpine/Gaming/KickstarterCSMTWReview.htm

As to the other CSM kickstarters, its the Demons & Devils one that is allegedly 70% fulfilled.

No miniatures have gone out for the first Tome of Horror, but some secondary things (i.e. PDFs of the Tome itself) have been sent and they are talking about actual fulfillment coming in April.

A compilation of greens from the original ToH project follows:

Yes.
When asked CSM responded that they "have no issues swapping at the lower pledge levels using the same formula $100 backers use. It was originally set up that way, but when KS admins reviewed the project, they wanted specific rewards at those levels".

It's going a bit slower than I expected, probably because the miniatures from the first are not yet shipped, and due to the baleful influence of Bones 2, et cetera. Still, I reckon it will get there. To CSM's credit, they're giving updates on ToH part one, looks like a lot of the stuff is sculpted and gone intro casting. If you're not familiar with that campaign, I recommend you check it out, to get a feel of the sculpting style and quality you're likely to receive in this one. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/centerstageminis/tome-of-horrors-complete-28mm-heroic-scale-miniatu/

Funded and with the first stretch goal down, there is now also a daily stretch goal where a Demon Lord Succubi will be included if we can reach $21,900 by tonight. So if you're tempted, jump in now to help us sweeten the pot!

Stretch goals have been reworked and some of CSM's existing stuff has been made available through the KS at a discount. I'll be grabbing the Mountain Giant, Boggywugs and probably the Dracolisk I think.

That's a pretty nice Remorhaz. Hadn't seen it painted up before. Looking at the slow incremental growth of this campaign, I was curious to see how it measures up with the first Center Stage ToH campaign. Here's this one.

and here's the first.

Since the campaigns are structurally so similar, looks like the slow burn is a feature of the way they've built their stretch goals and unlocks system.

I'm not sure it's to their credit, but rather a basic necessity! It's probably the #1 question on everyone's minds, and how fulfillment of the first is dealt with is likely a big factor in whether or not most people decide to back the second... they say they will have all the resins in-hand in April. With only a 2 month difference, I feel like they would've gotten a huge boost to this campaign by waiting until they did have them in-hand, and were at least beginning to ship them out (but could at the very least show them off).

The allure of that sweet, sweet Kickstarter money makes some people choose the questionable route...

Hm. Good points, all round. I don't think I'll be pledging for this one, after all. Looks like pledges have flatlined, anyway.

 Alpharius wrote:

I rather suppose that to hold off on beginning this campaign would not have helped to get the older ones to customers any faster, it'd've just meant the sculptors couldn't start on anything new for another few months, since I very much doubt CSM is a company big enough to have the cash reserves to advance them payment for something as big as that. There might very well be nothing on god's green earth that they can do to expedite things from their end.

On a scale of 0 to Defiance Games, this is a low degree of "questionable".

In general I agree with you guys; fulfilling previous Kickstarters before starting new ones is vastly preferable. However, I've decided to back this one based on two facts:

* I've received delivery on CSM's first KS, the Demons & Devils. This to me puts them in a much better position than companies running campaigns without having delivered anything from their previous projects. (CSM has actually also fully delivered on their second KS, Torn World, but it was a small one and I didn't back it.)

* I think the progress on their third KS, Tome of Horrors I, has been pretty good, with the number of completed sculpts increasing weekly (Serpine posted a summary of what's been done so far). Sure, it had an estimated delivery date of December and is now slated for delivery in April, but the number of minis to be produced grew substantially at the end, and I'm OK with the delay. Actually, I'm generally pretty OK with delays (I've come to expect them from KS's); it's the risk of never receiving anything I worry about.

If either of those factors hadn't been in place, I would be feeling much more sceptical and would most probably not have backed. However, as is, I'm willing to take a chance with my money. We shall see, though, perhaps a year from now I will be hanging my head in shame as you guys laugh harshly, point fingers, and triumphantly roar "we told you so!!!".

In the end, I just think it's a number of fun minis that can potentially be produced here, with an old schoolish vibe that I'm liking. Like the WIP of the Furnace Golem that was today added to the list of stuff coming out of Tome of Horrors I:

That Froghemoth is right up my alley. In fact, most of their stuff is. I love having random bizarre monsters to paint, and I've wanted to get in on just about all of CSM's campaigns. They always seem to run them when I don't have money to spare for kickstarters.

I also don't like the fact that in order to even consider individual pieces to purchase I need to make at least a 50 pledge. I kind of wish they gave you a choice of L, M, or S pieces to pick from rather than you just receiving specific pieces.

Could I make up a 50+ pledge worth of nothing but cherry picked piece meal add ons? Pretty easily probably.
At this point for me I'm going to probably toss a little cash either CSM's way or Drake for a few random bizarre creatures. Just not sure which yet.

Are the arms on that furnace golem finished? The upper arms seem a little bare with just the brass rods there. Otherwise I like that thing's design.

It was stated in the comments that the $25 and $50 pledge levels could indeed be allowed to swap the minis they receive, in the same way that the $100 can; 2-for-1 for large, 1-for-2 for small. I believe they are still not allowed to purchase the $5 add-ons, but I'm guessing you could still swap for them. I'll ask for clarification on these pledge levels.

Yeah, those upper arms were the main critique this beast got in the comments to that update:

There have been some major changes, and the $200 level pledge has been boosted quite significantly (it really needed it). That pledge level now includes two $15 add-ons for free, and a free Froghemoth (may be swapped for another Huge mini). Also, it's now confirmed that the $25 and $50 pledge levels are allowed to swap and trade just like the $100 level, so those are pretty good options if you're looking for just a mini or two. All of this was in the last update:

Also, stretch goals have been posted up until $40K, some of them are looking pretty nice:

Well WIP's and finished sculpts have started to show up now, here's what's been done so far:

Demoriel, Arch-Devil (by Martin Jones):

Dark Stalker (by Tim Prow):

Frost Man WIP (by Nick Genovese):

Also, a Flumph has been added for free to the $200 pledge ($5 add-on for lower levels). The Flumph on the right is the one now included in this project, the other one is part of ToH1:

This campaign is really struggling along, although it has now nearly, nearly reached the $26,300 stretch goal where the crabman and earth elemental dragon will be unlocked. Hopefully it'll pick up towards the end, I really do think it has the potential to put some very fun minis into production.

Anyway, a new pledge level has been added where you can get CSM's limited edition Tsathogga model. This is a very pricey pledge ($330) which also includes everything from the $200 level and an additional $15 add-on , but yeah. Tsathogga is a big boy. I really like this piece, and would probably swing for this level if I didn't already have him on order (I have a thing for frogs and their loathsome gods).
