Subject: Greebo Games Japanese Ratmen Football Team Indiegogo campaign (funded at €15.434)
I am so interested in that Cheerleader and Assassin it's not even funny.
The Ratmen from MtG's Kamigawa block are some of the coolest I ever saw, so I'm damn happy to see some somewhat related minis!
Thanks for warning us!

Not to nit-pick too much, but the only thing "Japanese" about any of these images is the katana-esque sword that the "Scuttler" is carrying. The coach in particular screams CHINESE and is not in any way Japanese-looking. And not even the kind of Chinese stuff that does have an influence on Japanese aesthetics - there is plenty of that, just not in the Chinese and vaguely "Asian" looking stuff here.
And to make my qualifications for making such statements clear: I am a Ph.D. student in Japanese Art History, and hold a Master's degree (with honors) in Japanese Language and Culture. I've also spent a number of years living in Japan (though I live in California now, but that's about the second or third best place to be for Japan stuff outside of Japan itself).

You have far greater qualifications than I to judge it, but much of it does seem to resemble the anime interpretation of "Japanese", if that counts. I like several of the figures myself, though I have little interest in the whole team.

They look great but what connection do Rats have with Japan? Tanuki would be more logical and the turtles should have been Kappa. and i agree with catharsix the priest and Coach look Chinese.
Priest would look something like this

They're trying to cash in on the popularity of Skaven(Eshin were in both Nippon and Cathay when they disappeared, and people love doing Nippon themed Skaven armies/bits) and L5R's Nezumi.
However, they're a couple years late since L5R has dropped the Nezumi as playable(not that I'm bitter about that).
I also blame Master Splinter for inextricably linking Japan and rats in our collective subconscious.

Japanese are:
Oni (name, design, armour)
Ninja (name, design)
Bushi (name, part of armour, some liberties taken)
Cheerleader is nine tail Kitsune
Clan (normal Japanese peasant clothing)
Team Token (rat version of Kabuki mask)
Skitex also wearing Kabuki mask
Coach is wearing Kimono.
Both rat masters wearing Kimonos.
Priest hat looks Shinto-priest-like
Ninja turtles ...
Humanoid rats (Nezumi) are part of most Japanese themed RPGs, card games and tabletops.
So I see a lot of Japanese inspired things here.

Pretty cool stuff. I've been wanting to get a new shaven bloodbowl team ever since I got rid of my last and this definitely fit the bill. Funded a team!
Cheers,

Perhaps these things are Japanese "inspired" but frankly it's not much more than using Japanese words and attaching them to things that do not represent anything even vaguely Japanese.
The Coach is NOT wearing a Kimono. A Kimono is a specific type of robe-like garment. The coach is wearing CHINESE style robes.
The Team Toekn is a mask, but it doesn't look like any specifically Japanese mask (Kabuki does not use masks, you're thinking Noh).
None of the armor looks particularly Japanese (as opposed to Chinese or generic "Asian" fantasy)
It's fine if they want to do this, and if people like it more power to them. But the designers clearly have a very weak idea of what is actually "Japanese" or not.

Mask reminds me of this Noh-Oni-Mask (google check irritated me as most masks were mislabelled as Kabuki masks):
The Rat-Oni is close enough to this Japanese Oni (Daemon)
But before we have too much off topic talk:
1.) This is a Fantasy setting where chain mail bikinis make sense
2.) Skaven are not part of Cathay or Nippon culture, but strangers copying elements with their limited abilities.
3.) Compromises have to be made to make the garment football compatible, including shorts and football armour (or net stockings in the case of the Kitsune ).

It is nice that you try to justify it but, when it comes down to it, there is almost no connection with Japan. It would better that they make it some fictional Asian like land than specific saying it is Japan.
(I live in Japan, so not much rat characters, mostly neko (cat's))
I have no idea if there's any folklore japanese around humanoid rats, but after this particular set of Magic, I've been a fan of them ever since and I guess many more people did.
Even if it's not fully japanese, it sure is close enough
Can't wait for the Cheerleader and kickass Assassin to be unlocked

I’m new on indiegogo and unfamiliar with how pledging works. If I wanted to just get Skitex and a few singles, how should I pledge?
Greebo Games said 4 days ago Hi,
if you want only single models the way to do that is to pledge several times Level 1 or Level 2 according to the models you want!
Example: let’s say I want Skitex (as soon as we reach the stretch goal for him!) and 2 Assassins.
I will have to pledge TWICE level 1 for the Assassins and ONCE Level 2 for Skitex.
Hope this helps, I will make it clear in the first update!

If you liked the Kamigawa block, you should look into L5R. Kamigawa was a very blatant attempt to cash in on L5R's popularity at the time.

For single star player pledges keep in mind the extra shipping (€3 + 1 for each 3 miniatures of the same pledge level) and that they have to be unlocked So better pledge late in this case.
