Hi,
some major news from the GW share front:
The Nomad Investment Partnership LP has been the biggest shareowner for a long time.
A year ago, they owned 16.2% of GW shares, three years ago even 23.8%.
Last December, they sold a lot and reduced their stock to 9.8%.
Still, when the half-annual report came and the share price took a dive, Nomad burned 7.2 Mio £ or 12 Mio US$ of customer money.
On 5th and esp. 6th March 2014, they reacted and sold most of their shares down to 506,280 shares ( 1.59%, last officially documented value) or less.
No change for the other shareholders above 3% ownership, so 2.5 Mio shares must have been bought by someone not yet on the radar.
Nomad is located on Cayman Islands BTW.
Thought this is worth sharing.
Summary of shareholder stats (all numbers from the official GW investor website):
7th March 2014:
Total is about 51.3%, so about half the shares not listed because ownership is below 3%.
20th January 2014:
Summary:
Artemis Investment Management LLP reached current level 15th April last year.
Schroders plc reached current level 10th January 2014.
Quantum Partners LP from Cayman Islands having 3.69% at 10th January 2014 is again gone from the records, so below 3%.
March 2013
May 2011
Summary:
3 years ago, big companies owned even more, about double or more than today. Top 6 owned 74.6% of GW shares. Then came the sudden departure of Mark Wells January 2013, causing some changes in shareholder stats.
As a reminder, the GW share price chart from the last few months:

Looks like Nomad has been getting rid of their stock for awhile now. No surprise they went all the way out. Be interested to see if any of the other top companies attempt the same slow sell down in the near future.

Is it troubling that Tom Kirby is now third on the list of biggest shareholders?

Lol, welcome back from that holiday under a rock you've been enjoying!
Yeah, GW published their half year report, which for the first time in a long while showed a significant drop in both income and profit (note, not a loss, they're just making less money than previously) for the 6 months to the start of Dec '13, year on year. Consequently, they didn't pay any sort of dividend, and people started to sell, causing the price to fall, then it went on a bit of a run, before ultimately arriving where it is now.
People should note that this isn't really "news" in and of itself, it is just a fact, and without context, rather meaningless. It's no secret that GW stock has fallen, but this isn't really any more significant than my selling my Ford because I want to buy a BMW. My sale of one possession doesn't really say anything about the state of the company that makes it, just about me wanting to use the value of that possession to purchase something else (which has it's own set of implications in this context, but it isn't automatically doom and gloom - albeit I'm inclined to lean that way a bit)

Craptastic numbers and Kirby had the brilliant line that he was surprised there was a big drop in sales from independent retailers.
It's not like they nuked stores and whole countries with their paranoid new trade agreement.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

On 16th January, the half-annual report was released, announcing 10% less revenue, 30% less profit and no dividend. And this after half a year extra full of releases, including a new SM Codex
It also informed the public that GW will close all non- UK HQs and doesn't know if that strategy will do any good.

Is it troubling that no institutional investor dares to risk more than 150% of what the CEO privately owns?

I think I know how the rest of the story goes... they finance a big orbital habitat, which will eventually become a spaceship once humanity discovers wormholes to other planets.
The only thing that has to happen before that is humanity collaborating to build a centralized AI and they'll disconnect from us.
