Been out of 40k for a while, to the extent that I dumped most of my minis about a year ago (hence the regret). Getting back in, mostly inspired by the variety of units allowed by the allies rules combined with the otherwise dull as balls Inquisitor codex.
Actually excited to get back in and spend some time converting and painting.

Previous armies we're all created for specific GTs here in Canada, and then sold because I was young and an idiot.
My first was the first iteration of these guys:

Children of the Light, a chapter that came to me while in a Wheel of Time induced coma. The colour scheme actually made it in to the UK WD in the 90s when they ran a "design your own chapter" mail in contest. Highlights of this first army included tanks in a white/blue/brown scheme that bore no relation to anything else in the army and that I have never been able to explain. This was for my first GT in Toronto.

The next GT army was The Marines Equites, which were like the Marines Errant, but with more time wasted in Latin class.

This was still 3rd edtion and I remember having 50+ marines in my GT list, a lot of fun but no punch in cc.

Next was a Chaos army with two completely scratch sculpted defilers...which were a solid 2-3 times the size of the actual defiler and looked liked The Thing had tried to take over a sick Alien. No pictures of that survive unfortunately. That army was also a blast, lots of red and screaming faces freehand.

Then it was my secret shame, a mostly unpainted demon heavy chaos army.

My last GT, which was by now one of the increasingly lame 'Conflicts', in Calgary saw a return to the Children of the Light with a revised chapter symbol and tanks that made sense.

The rest of my painting at the time (2000-2008) was commission work, which I did a very poor job of managing and is one of my biggest regrets in life so far. It also killed my interest in painting and modelling for over five years.

So now I'm back, starting with some Inquisitor warbands and planning to expand in to marines, imperial guard and at least one knight.
I have about a dozen henchman etc. in various stages of assembly. The henchman are in this vein:

The idea being that the Inquisitor is recruiting from a single tech-gang in a hive, both the active gang member and members that are currently serving in the Imperial Guard. Not very apparent from this picture but the gangers are inspired by the old tech-ganger Confrontation minis from the very early 90s.

My current thought on the marines is Sons of Medusa, mostly because this list from j31c3n http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/567140.page looks fun as hell and green is fun and forgiving to paint. I'll be supplementing them with Marines Errant when I get bored and then looking at Lamenters when the BA codex is updated. I'm planning for the regular marines to be lightly 'true-scaled' with thigh and waist spacers and then the characters to be more dramatically beefed up.

The guard are constantly evolving. Right now I've nailed down almost everything except the head and then I can start worrying about the colour scheme. I am currently looking for a sculptor for the heads as I'm not loving any of the 3rd party options right now.
I also plan to run Stormtroopers using Anvil Industries Grenadiers and the upcoming Militarium Tempustius Ina Teacupius codex supplement.

Oh, I also have a Dreamforge Leviathan Crusader in the post at the moment with the plan for it to be my first Knight.

So that's my rambling. I should also be adding terrain, infinity, and random fantasy stuff here.

Little update demonstrating no actual progress, just pictures I hadn't taken yet.

Very nice so far, I look forward to seeing more.

The Cyclopean servitors look cool and I really like the warrior guy, reminds me of an early piece of warhammer art I once saw.

The most hated of updates, one with no progress pictures.
But don't worry that's only because I've...made no progress. gak.

Ok, so my new schedule hasn't been as productive as I'd hoped, with no miniature time since it started in April.
Nevertheless, I'm forging ahead with overly optimistic plans!

Currently buying everything I need to make these guys. Specifically the top left sketch, but with a heavy nod towards RT era guard in general.

With a side helping of these guys, as Veterans/ Grenadiers:

I've made no effort to match the lasgun, and I've gone with CQ Luminous Rifles from Mad Robot.
Blightwheel produced a torso that is spot on for Jes' sketches, which they have recently revised. I have 40 or so copies of the original and some of the new one on the way along with Blightwheel greatcoat legs, which I'm liking better than any other option that I've found so far.
I've commissioned dakka's own storag and http://mywayminiatures.com/ to produce the heads, which is going really well. I'm hoping to have product in hand by July.
Arms I'm less set on. I'm leaning towards Dreamforge Eisenkern arms for convenience and cost. The accessory box gives you a ton of hard plastic arms that lend themselves very easily to conversion work. Obviously it doesn't tie in perfectly the original concept though so I'll see how that goes. I may just use those on the Grenadiers.

Plan is to keep a Rogue Trader feel, without slavishly adhering to any particular imagery. Ogryn will likely be Light Terran Mechs from our own Necros Mechadrome KS, as they remind me of RT robots.
Tanks will probably be Ramshackle games, although we'll see what I think of the three Battle Dog's a backed for once they arrive.

Anyway, that's it for now, see you all in 3-6 months!

It begins!

Heads are commissioned, and available now from http://mywayminiatures.com/.
Torsos and greatcoat legs are from blight wheel miniatures. Fatigue legs, rebreather backpack, and groin guard are from Victoria miniatures.
Lasgun is from mad robot miniatures.
Plastic arms are from Dreamforge.

See the post above for the goal of this project. I've tried to stay as close to the feel of the art as possible if not staying faithful to every detail (I made no effort to source an identical lasgun for instance). This will become more apparent as I develop the army.
These are just tacked together, hence the awkward fit on the gun. The biggest missing pieces here are the shoulder pads and greatcoat arms. The former are being produced by Storag and company as we speak, the latter, I haven't completely decided on.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The Dreamforge arms will be the 'standard issue' armour that most seasoned troops will have discarded and will probably represent less than half of the arms used.

I'm going to be distracting myself with a secondary 40k project for the next little bit as I want to have an army ready to go but don't want to rush my IG, so watch this space.

I'll be interested to see how these turn out because I've loved that image since I first saw it 15+ years ago when I first got into the hobby.

If you ever did want to match up the lasgun, there's one from the old Necromunda weapon set that's just like it:
