Just picked up what looks like 24 ish Inf stands a ton of cmd stands, ZB53 HMG plt, 3 47/32 Inf gun and 4 81.4mm mortars. So in addition to picking up the required second company any thought s on just a good 1650 point list to play when I want to leave the US or Brits home?

Edit: typo

Were you looking at MW or LW? Ive been interested in starting a Romanian army as well, though haven't gotten around to it. From the sound of it it looks like you've got a LOT of painting ahead of you...

The biggest advantage I see with the Romanians is the ability to field German equipment on the cheap (admittedly with only 1/3 chance of getting those sweet CV stats, and as far as tanks go, only in platoons of three). I like the option of cheaper pak40's especially in MW.

My only theory crafting around them so far is that instead of fielding the huge 24+ stand companies/platoons, it might be better to field them in one or two platoon companies, as these increase the number of total AT assets available for assault. They also make sure that you don't end up with a 24 stand RT blob due to bad dice before the game starts.

Was going to start a LW list and go from there. Not looking to all that painting myself. This is almost as big a project as a Russian Army.

I was also thinking of doing 2 platoon companies with a HMG platoon attached. Seems like a pretty good way to do it. I am leaning towards an Axis list since I have 2 Ally armies.

Depending on the era, you might *have* to take the company-sized infantry formations. A few years ago, for fun I wrote up a Romanian infantry list using the old Ostfront book (which has since been replaced by Eastern Front). Ostfront used the old platoon-sized formations, and I literally had to get every single option available in order to use up my allocation of points.

Hadn't though of that. Oh well I needed another long term project for after I get the US rifle company completerd.

Since you're looking at Late War, it might not be an issue for you. The Mid-War Romanian infantry list doesn't have access to those points-devouring tanks that the Late War list does (even if we're only talking Panzer IVs and T-34s).

Here's something I pulled together recently from Red Bear;

Vanatori Motorizata

Vanatori Motorizata HQ - CinC Rifle, 2iC Rifle, 1.5-ton truck (30 pts)
- CinC upgrade - Replace CinC Rifle with CinC Panzerfaust SMG (15 pts)
- 2iC upgrade - Replace 2iC Rifle with 2iC Panzerfaust SMG (15 pts)
- Panzershreck - 2x Panzerschrek (50 pts)

Vanatori Motorizata Platoon - Command MG, 8x MG, 4x 1.5-ton truck (195 pts)
Replace Command Rifle/MG with Command Panzerfaust SMG (10 pts)

Vanatori Motorizata Platoon - Command MG, 8x MG, 4x 1.5-ton truck (195 pts)
Replace Command Rifle/MG with Command Panzerfaust SMG (10 pts)

Vanatori Motorizata Platoon - Command MG, 8x MG, 4x 1.5-ton truck (195 pts)
Replace Command Rifle/MG with Command Panzerfaust SMG (10 pts)

Motorizata Machine-gun Platoon - Command Rifle, 4x ZB53 HMG (110 pts)

Motorizata Mortar Platoon - Command Rifle, 4x 81.4mm Brandt mortar (90 pts)
- Observer - Observer Rifle (15 pts)
- Trucks - 2x 1.5-ton truck (5 pts)

Motorised Heavy Anti-tank Platoon - Command Rifle, 3x TAC 97/38 75mm gun (7.5cm PaK97/38) (80 pts)
- Trucks - 1.5-ton truck per gun (5 pts)

Tancuri Medii Platoon - Command TA (StuG G), 2x TA (StuG G) (245 pts)

Tancuri Medii Platoon - Command TA (StuG G), 2x TA (StuG G) (245 pts)

Armoured Car Platoon - Command AB (Sd Kfz 222), AB (Sd Kfz 222) (60 pts)

Motorised Anti-Aircraft Platoon - Command Rifle, 3x Mitral 20mm (2cm FlaK38) gun (60 pts)
- Trucks - 3-ton truck per gun (5 pts)

1645 Points, 10 Platoons

It has the 3 platoons of infantry, all motorized with trucks, some decent ATG's and mortars, followed by mobile AT with the TA's (StuG's) and some AA and Recon for some protection. It's 10 platoons, so giving up a platoon early doesn't grant a VP to your opponent right away. They'll roll on the Elite table for their skill-values but it should do ok.

It doesn't have any Heavy Artillery, but since it's a mobile force, I kept it simple with the core of mobile infantry where some Panzershrecks can be attached-out. The mortars can be used to "smoke" threats to your armored units or pin where needed. The TA's can be used to assault and do the heavy lifting against infantry, albeit working in conjunction with the AB recon unit. Plenty of firepower with the HMG's and AT-Guns (TAC97/38's). I think this list would be more suited to defense but it can attack as well.

Not a bad list. I saw that one on Easy Army. Blow the die roll and get a reluctant army though and you are in for it if a transport gets popped and the unit is pinned.

About as good as it's going to get for LW Romanians (mech infantry) though.

The only saving grace about it is they roll on the Elites Chart instead of the Regular chart, so if you can roll a 3+ for each platoon, you would have something to work with.

True. I believe you roll for each company/platoon separately as well. Guess I need to get painting. ugh.
