Hello,

I want to present you our project, createyourminis.com.

On the website you can create a model from spare parts like clothes, weapons, poses, etc. Later you will be able to order your creation as 28mm miniature (maybe other scales will be added), we will print it in 3D and send it to you.

We just added female models for you to try them on. We hope to start a crowdfunding campaign in the next weeks. The target price is 4-6€ per model.

Here are some creations possibilities :

All those models have been created on our site with no alteration to the 3D models, we just added bases and gave them more processing time to have prettier images.

If you are interested by our project please like us on Facebook and follow us on twitter.

And now, try to create your minis !

Well i didn't seem to have any problems seleting items, poses, ect.

The loading time to finalize is abit long, at a point i thought it might not work. But it did.

I then hit the return buttom and added more options and such. When then i finalized i got a page of text/code after it loaded for ahwile. I refreshed and it was the exact same error. I apparrently selected a combination of items that caused a error i think.

Other wise this seems prety interesting. I will PM you the error report.

You can colour me interested, especially once their are more options and poses.

Not a single bug or problem for me!

Gotta say, if you guys add more options and customizability, you could really be on to something. I've already created two miniatures that I'd love to have in the flesh. I'll be keeping a VERY close eye on this project as it develops!

With more selections to choose from, I would definitely be interested in this. Out of curiosity, what would the price range look like for these minis?

I would imagine they'd include some clause about them retaining all rights to reproduction unless at some point they offer an option to load your own 3D files.

The creator worked well enough. It would be nicer if it rendered in real time according to changes being made on the fly, but I have no concept of what that requires on the back end.

Also, while the creator app works fine, the biggest test will be the prints and whether they live up to the renders and if people feel the price is right.

We have cheap servers for now, with hamsters running in wheels because it's just a demo. Obviously we'll get more powerful servers once in production (with faster, stronger, better hamsters).
If it's not enough we might have other options to speed up the process.

Of course the number of options will grow. Currently we are focused on solving technical issues, from that point of view having other assault rifles is of little interest (if we can do an ak47 we can do any rifle hold the same way). But once it's done we will be able to add choices relatively fast. For instance, we just add a new assault rifle with a more futuristic look, just for you Bob. Well, not just for you, the others can use it too, but still.

What do you think we should increase first ?
- the number of poses ?
- the number of clothes/armor ?
- the number of weapons ?

(we could also provide a female model, or elf and dwarf, etc. But it's more work to do)

 Jimsolo wrote:

The price range should be between 4€ and 8€ (around $5.5 and $11, with VAT). We did all our estimations with the goal to reach 4€ but as long as we don't confirm the whole production process the price can derail (but 8€ is really a worst case scenario).

Beside, the pricing policy is not decided yet. For example, will it be 5€ for any model or 2€ for a naked
model with a small extra for each cloth/ weapon ?

Real time would have been better but we didn't chose that option for several reasons, the first being that real time would have to be done on the browser of the user, so he would have to download the model, which is big. For a smooth printed miniature we need a highly detailed 3D model, this is why the server takes so much time to provide you the rendered pictures.

 Aerethan wrote:

Indeed, in fact the project needs 3 important things to succeed :
- The website being simple and fun to use (that test seems to be passed)
-The printed models being detailed enough (you don't know that but that test is passed too, unless the 3D printer's owner tricked me with a false sample)
- The price.

Absolutely love this, and will definitely buy from it! My only request is that the main image updates with the selection you choose as you're "assembling" it to get a better feel for the finished result without having to go back and make changes after.

You could show a (far) lower quality preview to the user. Basically taking the images you display in the browser and combining them the way they would on the final model, and then have the final render done on the backend - the preview need not be 100% accurate, but it would show things like if you give a model all the belt options, will they be hidden underneat a trenchcoat, or will the belt be on top of the trenchcoat?

It would be nice to give your customers the ability to pose the model however they wanted. Until then, I think more preset poses and other body types are a must. Human women and dwarves would be good to see next.

Armor, probably, you've got something medieval going on with weapons and helmet, but I don't remember seeing plate/mail armor

Clipping would be something I'd look into, before adding more stuff, especially if you're going to add more stuff to go on the holsters.

The aiming downsight pose is also looking a bit too high, if you understrand what I mean.

What do you call “clipping”? When two parts overlap?

We will probalby give the ability to request specific options :
- as a customer loyalty reward (you bought for X€, you can chose an element to be created)
and/or
- as a backer reward from a kickstarter/crowdfunding campaign.

Yeah, for example, the machete goes through the model leg and pokes out the other end.

I'd like some body morphing, although I suspect that'll come along soon. The current model is a bit pudgy for my liking.

Wow this is pretty awesome. I especially liked this part:
"Our gremlins are assembling your model, it may take them a few minutes.

(think of the gremlins !)"

I think that it would be cool if you could select a few races and a few more gun options etc. Well just more options in general but overall it worked awesome for me I will totally order one!
The backpack I chose (the last one I think) seems a little large for the figure though)

EDIT:
Just saw a glitch in the position of the large knife on the left leg when in the standing pose (it goes right through the leg).
Think of the gremlins!!!!!!

Will female models be available soon? There always seems to be demand for realistic female minis.

Our gremlins are working on it.

theHandofGork wrote:Will female models be available soon? There always seems to be demand for realistic female minis.
Female models will be the next ''model type''. In fact, our system is more interesting for female models as women have always more variety for clothing (armors can range from realistic to sexy).
The only reason we didn't start with female models is because it adds a couple of technical difficulties.

(Yep, I said it : women are more complicated than men)

Why is it only the women who get sexy armour? What if I wanted an army of men wearing chainmail loincloths and nothing else?

We will probably make a couple of loincloths for barbarians or slaves and an anatomically correct pelvis, but I doubt it will go much further. You can see on game modding websites like nexusmods.com that sexy clothes are almost exclusively for women. It's a question of market size and best use of limited resources really.

But are you really interested in sexy male underwears ? I mean, if you are enough willing to buy them we will make them, no question about that. It's just that I would be surprised.

I think it needs some kind of preview as you change the pieces. Doesn't have to be perfect can just be a composite made out of 2d pictures of the miniature from the front but just something so I can have a rough idea of what its going to look at as we are going along.

I very much like the concept though. With some UI enhancement and a larger range of options it could be very useful.

As long as we get realistic, practical clothing/armor options for women, I'll be happy.

You don't unselect your choice but select the white square to replace it. I admit a white square on a white background may not be the most obvious thing in the world, it will be changed.

Hum... You are many to request this feature. Something in real time is not currently possible, but we may be able to provide you a quick & dirty preview, ready in (hopefully) less than 10 sec.

Would it be enough ?

It's kind of needed to you have an idea of how the minitures parts look so far. Maybe a quick preview button on thr side would work. Would have to try it to see of it was enough.

Big update !

First, since many of you asked for some kind of preview we created one. You can see a dump down version of your current model, ready in a few seconds. It still a little buggy, the pose in particular but it just to know what you think of it (in a sense it's a preview of the preview).

Right now the preview opens a new window each time. Do you prefer that way, so you can compare several different models or should we insert it in the main page instead ?

We also added the possibility to share pictures of your creations. Just save the model (you need to be logged in), select the model and clic on the ''share'' button. You will get an URL for the image.

You also get some code to embed the ''spinning model'', just like a youtube video (I can't make it work here, probably HTML is not allowed).
The last field is the ID of the model (qr for this one), so others can load the model. If they want to see the equipment of the model they just have to click on the return button.

Finally we also add some poses and pieces of equipment. We did most of the tuning so we will create new elements faster now.

Please help us by taking time to ''like'' or ''follow'' us. If you just want to be informed of the next major developments register on our website so we can send you our newsletters.
