Hello, i am starting FOW and am looking for an army to building. I am debating between a German panzergrenadier list with lots of halftracks + some tanks, and an American army based on artillery. I don't have the rulebook yet but I am using fowlist army builder, According to that you can 2 platoons of 105mm and 1 of 155mm guns. In addition I would have 2 platoons of m1 57mm guns for anti tank. I was wondering If this would be viable to base an army around. Not super competitive but able to win vs my friends lists( panzergrenadier, american para, russian tankovy, some others), I would have other stuff in there too. The guns + minimum infantry is 1,000 points and we usually play at 1500. Anyway, thanks for the help

He's been ferried through hell on a ship that's ten thousand years old to some godforsaken, war-torn rock; He is one of ten million men snatched from his home to fight a war he barely understands; He wages war against devouring hiveminds, ravenous demons and hordes of hyper-advanced aliens with strange technologies and sorceries he never dreamed existed; no one will remember his sacrifice, there will be no records of his deeds, no glorious parades in his honor, and no remembrance of his name. All he will earn is a shallow, unmarked grave on a forgotten world untold lightyears from home.

Yet for all this thankless sacrifice a Guardsman is a man, just like you. He has no millennia-old genetic engineering, no prophetic leader, no miracles of faith. He has his lasgun, his orders, and those beside him. He is the Imperial Guard.

And he will hold the line.

On the defensive, and out of sheer surprise factor it might win occasionally, though I'd definitely have to agree that it's not too competitive. I think you'll be severely disadvantaged in any battle that forces you to go claim an objective. Looks fun though, I do love dropping templates...

My thinking for objective missions was just to shell the enemy around the objective and use the truscott trot to try to run to the objective. Although I do agree it will still have trouble

That list is begging for an ARP.

I would ditch the weapons platoon and upgrade the towed TDs to M10s, and replace the second 57mm platoon with either I&R or a CavRecon patrol.

BTW, BF has two free pdfs for US rifles, check them out. 29ID is still under review.

I would avoid deploying token number of vehicles, especially vulnerable vehicles. Even with their ambush rules M10s will not last long alone.

M10s are great though but they need back up. Adding a tank platioon would help, and change some observers to Sherman OP.

However once you have done all this what is left is a pretty much standard US infantry list. This list is a lot different from that and thus more rewarding for casual play.

I've seen lists like this work pretty well. With the 57mm AT guns, you should have plenty of AT assets, and the 105s and 155s can use direct fire in a pinch. It would definitely be hard to dig out. Just be prepared to use your infantry to attack with if you're up against another infantry company.

The only thing that I might consider worth adding in a list with so much indirect fire would be a recon platoon of some sort to lift GtG.
