As of this writing GW has exactly 4 IG items for sale on their site!

I know, I know the name change is hardly news any more but... geeze. 25 years of branding and you can't even keep the old name alive for people looking to buy stuff in your own web store?

Oh and trying to find the ebook version of Codex Astral Miltary or whatever is a real pain in the butt.

Yeah, typing 'codex astra' into the search bar is hard.

Astra Militarum has a slot under 40k Armies so I fail to see the issue.

nah just bemused at how GW thinks we'll just stop saying IG because they say so.

I don't think they think that. I think that, having made the branding change, they are working to complete it on the site though.

No great mystery here.

What is this "Imperial Guard" you keep talking about? The Astra Militarum has always been called Astra Militarum, since way back in Rogue Trader.

I get the post. For those of us with "emotional connection" to the lore of the past almost 30 years, along with everything else thats going on with gw, you'd think they are just trying to run the company into the ground. Its pretty clear that whoever is making decisions up top, really doesn't have that same connection as its loyal fanbase. Its a drag.
It all follows suit with the current paint line. Type Imperial guard into google search and you wont find images of just GW branded product. This is all part of the plan to brand themselves even more.
Anyways, thats my 2cents...

Kid, those models are going to be discontinued [I hope with Marbo], so GW wouldn't bother to change the name.

I think declaring it ruined forever when they change the name of the codex is a bit much. The fluff still calls them the Guard and that's the important part, not GW making sure they have a protect able trademark for flogging their stuff that fits the setting.

If you actually knew anything about the 40k community, you would know that every single change GW make is supposed to ruin 40k forever.

I would expect them to change their web store to be in line with the new branding most of all.

So true... and if they follow suit like most goof balls at cons and such, they will complain on the internets until they are blue in the face, but get them in front of a developer or any legit GW employee and they become a gelatinous goo of idol worship. (I've seen this in person at Warhammer World and it still makes me laugh.)

I could see that being on the book. Although if they were going to change it they probably would have.

It's a bit strange that they have not done so already, seeing that they also re-branded the Sisters of Battle line into Adepta Sororitas.

Makes you wonder if they shy away from it because this is a name they consider too popular? Even though the Space Marines are the one army that should (by legal PoV) be regarded as most "vulnerable" when it comes to trademark claims?

IDK why GW does the things they do.

I presume they are rebranding the IG because of the fallout from the Chapter House case, but IG weren't in that, while Space Marines featured heavily. It's not like there has been any problem of other people calling their models Imperial Guard, I mean, not outside Napoleonics anyway, and I can't imagine GW's target market of 12 year olds knowing much about Napoleonics.

Perhaps GW just think the name is cool and will appeal to the kids. Perhaps its part of their move to get rid of all localised packaging.

With all their trademark stuff that came out recently I'm more surprised that they didn't when the Marine codex dropped last year.
