Anyone else notice this? Pretty sure Forge World hates the name change as much as the rest of us. It will never be Astra Milatarium for me always the Imperial Guard.

I hope it was someone in FW giving GW execs a giant middle finger.

Even though it wasn't.

Yeah, Forge World still hasn't changed Sisters of Battle. It's probably just another case of every man for himself, do what you want. Just like everything else coming out of GW.

I noticed the banner and lol'd at it. Awesome picture though. I want it as a wallpaper. I don't think it'd have the same effect if it said Expecto Patronum.... I mean Astra Whateverus

At first I was like: FW have a Guard banner on their front page, they must have released new models!

But then I was like: Aww shucks :(

Forgeworld typically caters to the veteran 40k players, so I can see this banner as a show of solidarity to the original name of Imperial Guard.

After all, the Imperial Guard is really what Forgeworld gained a lot of its early success off of- they don't call those books Imperial Armor for nothing!

They're going to have to rerelease them all as "Astra Armour"... doesn't quite have the same ring to it, lol.

You do you realize the AM dex even refers to itself as IG right? So how exactly is this a giant middle finger to GW?

People in this thread sound like a bunch of angsty teenagers. Seriously guys go outside.

LOL mods.

I don't see a bunch of of people saying this is a big middle finger...? I mean, I see one comment about that, but the rest were general comments.

FW can show a bit of solidarity with fans and not simultaneously be giving GW the finger, the two are not mutually exclusive.

But looking at your signature I'm guessing you're not here for engaging conversation

How is it solidarity when fw calls the AM the IG, when page 5 of the dex calls the AM IG 5 times? So GW stills calls the IG the IG its bad but FW does it, it's this great act of customer service to the fans....

Give me a break.

Or you know, they might just have not got round to it. I suspect it has nothing to do with solidarity or nostalgia or whatever else fits your dystopian view of GW and is more about them not prioritising is above say, making cool new models.

Who said that it was giving the middle finger to GW?

I just think it's funny in the same week after GW renamed the IG codex to AM, renaming the IG section on the website to AM and some of the kits on their website to AM... FW comes along with a random banner ad saying "IMPERIAL GUARD". There is no reason for the banner... it doesn't lead to any new kits and I can't see anything changed, someone just decided "hmm, lets make a big banner link on the home page to the IG section".

It's just amusing is all, lol.

Are you listening to yourself? Obviously tone is hard to convey on a forum, but no post in this thread screams "angsty teenager" as much as yours. Also, you do realise you're on a forum talking about little toy dollies? Hmm? Yeah, perhaps go take a chill pill and take a few deep breaths there, bud

I don't remember accusing GW of doing anything wrong, you just assumed I was pitting FW as the sanction of good versus GW as the bastion of evil. I am say something approving about FW without it being a hit against GW; why you seem to be so ready to attack people as GW haters is beyond me.

I am quite aware that the new codex references IG as the common name; Astra Militarum is an extension of the same concept that GW has employed for its imperial armies (adeptus astartes, sororitas, etc.) For whatever reason, a reason I profess to not know, GW felt like it was a good idea to rename IG as Astra Militarum. They didn't do this for Space Marines, they did it for Sisters and IG (again, this is just a statement of fact, I am not accusing them of any wrong-doing). AM is now the new primary name of the army.

I am sure that GW is aware that this rebranding would cause some backlash that ANY re-branding of any product, particularly one with a history as long as Imperial Guard (in the 40k sense) would have. But they thought it was a good strategy, and that's their decision. But, part of the new brand identity is that GW will from now on refer to that army as AM, and IG will perhaps show up less as the term for the army in the future. I think both GW and FW are aware of this, it is a conscious decision. I think FW felt like giving out this one last hoo-rah for the old name. It is not a dig at GW; it's celebrating the end of an era and the beginning of another.

You guys are trying to insert drama into a situation where there is none. The new AM codex drops, so FW said hey, without doing any extra work whatsoever, put up an old IG image on the site so we can be relevant to the launch. Tada!

Why would GW give the finger to itself? After all, Fw Is part of GW. And before a prolonged debate starts about fw being or not being part of GW, here is there FAQ

THE FORGE WORLD COMPANY

Q1. IS FORGE WORLD PART OF GAMES WORKSHOP.
A1. Yes, but we operate as a small (but perfectly formed) separate division from the company that makes and sells the main Games Workshop range of products. We are not connected with the US company that used the same name many years back for production of resin Warhammer 40,000 vehicles under licence.

So they are not going to bite the hand that feeds them... But will cater to those close minded folks that can't accept the new guard name...

It does have some nice alliteration to it, and the ltieral translation is "star armor" which would be bloody awesome no matter how you interpret it (I prefer it to actually be a suit of armor made out of stars, but it could alternatively be an armored shell built around a star).

I'm guessing it would end up being "armor militarium" which in my opinion actually does sound pretty legitimate.

For the Emperor's sake, how many threads do we need with veiled complaints about the damn name change? It's not even a name change, it's just an alternative name like Adeptus Astartes. It happened, people. Get over it.

Oh you will change your tune soon enough as GW makes a FAQ saying if it doesn't have AM in it, it will not be able to be used since it's IG not AM. This will be GW revenge on us.

If you look at every piece of information about the Astra Militarum codex, it states multiple times that they are more commonly known as the Imperial Guard. It's no different than Adeptus Astartes or Adeptus Sororitas for the Space Marines and Sisters of Battle.

Get your logic and sensibility out of this thread!

People are busy being outraged over a silly faux latin name!

I agree with you 100% though, in all seriousness. Once Guard, always Guard, the codex cover changes nothing.
