A friend and I were talking about doing a campaign this summer with my Dark angels(pretty much all deathwing termies) vs his chaos space marines. We wanted to do a somewhat narrative campaign but I could use some suggestions on mission ideas. I was talking with some people at Local game store and one of the guard players was willing to act as the planetary defense force for some of the games as well.

Good old fashioned Fallen hunt?

This is what I am thinking so far:
Jail Break
Story:
After the PDF capture Cypher from a downed transport attempting to infiltrate the prison planet, the planetary defense force is holding off a chaos space marine advance attempting to breach the gates of their prison. The planetary defense force has its back to the wall of the prison while the chaos marines advance from the outskirts in an apparent attempt to take the prison containing a large number of prisoners including Cypher. Hearing of the capture of Cypher the Dark Angels descend on the prison to secure the prison and take the mysterious fallen angel back to the Rock. Inside the prison the CSM have sent an infiltration team to jailbreak as many CSM forces as they can as well as any others willing to follow them while the forces outside the prison draw the attention of the PDF.

This leads to one of 2 missions:
If the Dark Angels Succeed in securing the prison before cypher escapes there will be a prisoner transport mission.
If the CSM succeed it will lead to a mission to attempt to take other footholds on the planet.

How could Cypher be captured by PDF?

That's the (only) real problem with it.

Crash landed on the planet captured while he was injured/unconscious or it was his plan all along to be captured to easily infiltrate the prison knowing he would have backup waiting for him.

Planned all along sounds like the better idea

I believe you are right that planned all along would be the best way to go with the story so I think that this will be a closer revised backstory:

Among all the chaos one question cannot be ignored is there something inside the prison that Cypher was after or was it just dumb luck that he was captured.
