I clicked as I was curious, the blog hasn't interested me at all for a while but with the inclusion of this video, it was really quite helpful. I know how to paint flesh but watching the video, I could easily imagine a newer player getting some pretty good tips and techniques from this.

GW aren't in the best light here, but credit where credit is due. Well done GW, certainly a step in the right direction.

"I hate 6th! Fix it GW!!!"
"Seventh edition? Feth that GW! I'm sticking with sixth to show you who is boss! Via la revolution!"
"I'm not buying anything from you no more! Apart from three riptides, new codex, starter set and rulebook... but that's it!"

Wait, what blog does GW have currently that has painting videos on it?

I see the "How to Paint" books in the digital store, but that's about all I can find that's produced by GW.

They arent bad, actually, but they are very limited to painting specific styles using specific paint ranges.

Yeah they're limited, why would they use any other paint ranges? It is very good for beginners and those looking to improve their painting skills who are only going to be limited to GWs ranges.
Yeah there are better ones, but this one is made by GW after there big 'delete the interwebz' and seems to me the first step in reaching out to customers - everything begins with first steps.

Hmm, interesting. But Price did this Youtube page come into existence after GW closed down all of their pages or if this page simply left over from that time? It seems to be the place where they host their mini-previews as well. I don't recall the page being advertised much in any place but I could be wrong (for all I know GW is working on a separate webpage for hobby stuff).

Good to see that they have some free painting articles though, I'm sure anyone looking to at least emulate their painting style could put these to use.

I'm really not sure when it came about, it could very well be there old page, but if I recall (And i could be very wrong about this) I don't remember being that many updates or if they were, they wasn't this good.

They can still be found on the new website, (and they have posted a new one onto the website: 'Painting Ogryn Skin').

On the homepage, click the White Dwarf near the top.

I agree that the posts and videos are good! The only problem is how hidden away they are.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Oh good, they re-uploaded the old articles. They weren't up when GW first launched the new site.

I loved those vids. Never been big on painting myself and when I did want to learn something, most the painters nowadays either started grabbing "better" paints while not always talking about the Citadel counterparts or turned towards airbrushes.

It's really hard to find a video with good quality, proper commentary and 100% brush experience while explaining very simply and thoroughly every step and those two vids I saw(Taurox and Scion) covered all those aspects very neatly.

Can't wait to see more from GW, to be honest. Those vids are great motivation to go back to painting in spite of the sea of grey plastic covering my shelves. Also - love the little beginner tips, might know all that stuff already, but it's a nice reminder and you know that they might help some newbies.

I'm a fan of their painting videos. They're accessible, from a professional source, and tell you exactly what you need to do, all in a nicely produced package. The guy talking has a pleasant enough voice and does a good job. I'm looking forward to seeing more, even if I don't exactly need the advice.

Check out my Youtube channel!

I actually like the GW videos. They are good for showing quick and effective methods for painting reasonably good looking models.

There are a lot of tutorials online, but a lot of them are way too detailed for table top painting, some just have too many time consuming steps that don't add much to the finished model but take a lot of time, others are just beyond the skill level or equipment of some people (some good airbrush tutorials out there, but not everyone has an airbrush and it seems people often give airbrush tutorials even at times when hairy brush painting is probably more appropriate).

GW tutorials are what they are and they are good for what they are, simple tutorials that give you simple but effective tools to produce some reasonably good looking models.

I've flicked through most of the tutorials and even though most of them are below my skill level, I still pick up some useful tips here and there.

Their videos on the special effects paints were fantastic. There's no way I would have even considered those products without seeing them in action, WIP photos would not have sufficed.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

The video on Agrellan Earth was pretty great; I might use that for my orks instead of my usual sand + brown drybrush.

If it wasn't for that video I'd never figured out that I wasn't using enough of it the first time I tried using it! I'm so used to putting on paints thin that I'd never thought to glob it on.

I know, I was really impressed with how the rot turned out.

The Agrellan stuff really impressed me too; 1 hour later and presto, instant desert on the base.

I wonder if you can use it on the model itself though...maybe for something like a cracked blister on a demon of nurgle, that's been drybrushed with some shade of green.

That is a fantastic idea! I think it would work on larger surfaces (Nurgle Landraider?) but if we could find a way to use it on smaller models too, would have a very unique detail to an army.
